i think the anime ended in a way no one expected, which made it have such a great big impact on all those who watched it. of course, like hundreds of others, i wished hachi decided to be with nobu, but not all animes can have such happy endings. sometimes thats how life is. it doesnt quite go as we all planned.

all in all i loved this anime, and ive watched it about 5 times all the way through!

You are correct in that she ended up marrying Takumi for the finances. But she didn't marry him so she can leech off of him...she wanted her child to grow up healthy and without worry. A child requires a lot or nurturing, so it is understandable why she ended up staying with Takumi...for the finances...and to take care of her child.

That's quite a responsible decision as a mother I'd have to say.

Hachi's decisions are childish up until the very end, and I'm not even sure that "childish" would be a strong enough word. Towards the end of the anime/manga I don't feel any pity for Hachi whatsoever. I only have feelings left for those around her. They're the ones who had to pay for Hachi's mistakes, and maybe even more so than Hachi since they didn't deserve what was dealt to them. All in all, I just hated hated

Are you specifically talking about Hachi's decision of going to sleep with Takumi only because she felt lonely and not really thinking about her actual feelings? Because then I would have to agree with you that her decision right there was incredibly stupid.

But the decisions after that were those of a mother, nothing more. She matured a bit after that incident. Of course I would like to see her at the end of the manga.
