i use to play this arcade game a long time ago and it was very hard but then last year in 2010 my mom got me a new nintendo enertement system and then i started to have much fun :D
I think "100,000 pts. added for each player left" is my favorite part of the ending, personally. It's a shame they didn't use the better ending music from the Japanese Mario Bros. 2, if they were going to bother to use the ending.
This game is basically a mix between modified SMB1 levels and some SMB2j levels, all running on the SMB2j engine (see ending). It tends to be inbetween SMB1 and SMB2j in difficulty, with some upper world dungeons on the lower worlds, and some SMB2j levels in the upper worlds.
Man this ending hot, didn't know that Princess Peach was a loli in this one. Is this canon? Don't remember toads forming to make some crazy ass arch while occasionally falling through dimensions.
@felineki That same song is on the Mario 3 game boy version when you save the princess and they give you the option of choosing any world. It sounds kooler here though.
The name registration music has the exact same instruments as the main overworld theme, but then you add in the synthesizer drums. If the main overworld song itself was intended as a Latin groove, those synth drums would be playing a rolling, Calypso-styled beat.
im wondering why they didnt make to much of these arcade mario arcade games, mabey because people were getting so good at it they were hogging it. lol
This vid started at the very last level, World 8-4. But... to complete W7-4 on this version of SMB, for the first maze path you take the low route and then take the high route, staying on it the rest of the way through. For the last maze path, you again start at the low route, and then you take the high part and then finishing it by starting back low.
Which game come out first? Vs Super Mario Bros or Super Mario Bros 2 (Japan version.) I know they both came out in 1986, but I don't know which came first.
I own one of the original vs. Super Mario Bros. arcade machines, I bought it nearly 20 years ago. Despite that I had already owned the nintendo version, I enjoyed the arcade game alot because it was much more challenging, included levels which had not been developed for the nes, and had a better ending. One of the all time great games, for sure.
The Famicom Disk System version of Princess Peach's theme (in Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan) is longer in that it has a key change and is a different arrangement; whereas this version is merely an extension of the original ending theme from SMB1, save for the middle section, and as the castle screen turns sky blue the theme cuts off.

I like the poetic attempt, but no matter how I say it, I can't get the words "Mario" and "Hero" to rhyme...

Right that, because Mario is Peach's hero and overthrew Bowser and his minions.

Thanks for posting this. Never seen the Vs. SMB ending. Looks like the "Lost Levels" ending I've seen posted (never played "Lost Levels").
