  • Fprgot how good she was, she owned this song

  • @sunaJH Great memories listening to Linda - She OWNED the 70's.

  • Is that a young Buddy Miller singing with her and playing banjo? It looks like his profile. If you don't know who he is - look his name up on the list of who's who in music these days.

  • The man playing the banjo is Kenny Edwards.

  • She made me want to cry every time!!!!

  • All praise given to Linda's voice and singing is so well deserved, but we should take a moment to pay tribute to what a wonderful beautifully constructed song J.D. Souther wrote here...what a poetic construction, heartbreaking, utterly sincere, structured so beautifully. I always wondered if J.D. Souther ever intended for anyone other than Linda Rondstadt to sing the song, it seems like a match created in heaven.

  • great great

  • wow

  • Linda has one of the greatest voices of all time, she puts to shame all of the SO CALLED Divas of today !!! You know who I mean ! They could not hold a note or anything else to her incredible talent !!!!

  • Never heard a voice like Linda's

  • @LanaWolfMusic No, and you never will. No one would ever have to "autotune" her voice. It's already pure perfection that cannot be touched.

  • Beverly Sills said Linda had the best voice in music. Now THAT is a compliment!

  • If I had to choose the best female voices of the 20th Century, Linda would certainly rank in the top five. You Tube has the song "Lose Again" (written by Karla Bonoff) posted. It's the first track on her LP "Hasten Down the Wind." There are at least five versions by other talented artists posted on You Tube. Listen to the first 15 seconds of each one just as an experiment. When you get to Linda's version there is NO doubt of her superior vocal capability. Her vocal and emotional range...WOW

  • @cblou2000 Amen!!

  • @cblou2000 yup, I agree with you there...when people put her down, would you say it has to do with her "liberal' point of view? Or the fact that she is proud of her Mexican heritage? Or do they just have wax in their ears?

  • @adcan45 Let me say this. In the big picture, artists are judged by their work. Linda has such a large catalog that 100 years from now people will look back and say how great she was--they won't know a thing about her liberal views or her heritage. If people don't want to listen to Linda for whatever reason, it is THEY who are missing out. I don't care what her political leanings are, but I do know a powerful, talented, strong, and beautiful voice when I hear it. She also is a beautiful soul.

  • @cblou2000 beautiful soul...

  • To find Linda on LP you may go to mobile fidelity sound labs.com, or music direct.com, or sound stage direct.com, or 991.com, or eil.com. If you haven't heard this on vinyl, you haven't heard it. Her CDs sound good but her LPs sound GREAT! All of her 70s material is also available on Gold CDs which sound a lot better than the non-gold CDs. You might pay a little more, but isn't Linda worth it? CBL

  • @cblou2000 Yes, Linda is worth it!!

  • Her voice feeds my soul

  • LINDA IS QUEEN OF FEMALE VOCALS!!! SHE HAS GREAT RANGE . POWER. AND GREAT EMOTIONAL DEPTH UNLIKE ANY OTHER SINGER!!!!! ALSO I VERY SWEET WOMAN!!! I HAVE MET HER MANY TIMES IN CONCERTS!!!!

  • One of the most powerful female vocalists that has ever been. Her voice sends shivers down my spine. She is a living legend!!!

  • Absolutely beautiful voice - sends shivers down my spine. The voice of an angel.

  • Recently, as of this writing (July 2010) there are at least five vinyl remastered and reissued LPs of Linda's available. If you haven't heard this music on a quality ANALOG sound system done on an all analog remaster, you're totally missing out. Her CDs are great BUT her LPs are flawless and cannot be topped. "Don't Cry Now," "Heart Like A Wheel," "Prisoner in Disguise," "Hasten Down the Wind," and "Simple Dreams" are ALL available on audiophile quality vinyl. Soon all of her work will be on LP!

  • @cblou2000 THANK YOU!!!

  • Who is the banjo player? He was killing on the harmonies

  • @HarmonyOneClass I believe that is Dan Dugmore...

  • @HarmonyOneClass ... Kenny Edwards

  • In her prime, my oh my...

  • She really has a sincere attitude for her vocals in performing. Simply magnificent tone in her singing. Heard this since Heart like a Wheel came out somewhere in the mid seventies. Oh the seventies was so full of talented men and women in the music industry. Thanks for all the efforts, we still have them to hear. xoxoxo tjm

  • Always loved this song. I bought the album when it first came out. Gorgeous voice!

  • God God God Oh God what a woman, what a voice, what times! as if we "heired a fortune and had to spend it" (Jim Summer "The Big Sky" A.B. Guthrie)

  • What a blessed voice.

  • the best female singer that ever walked the planet.

  • @tpioneer1 AMEN to that!

  • @tpioneer1 Close anyway

  • Absolutely correct. It''s truly amazing, but this live performance is even better than the recorded version of the song. Love, love, love her, love her.. And I wish that she and Jerry Brown did get married and had some babies, too! They were a cute couple! Hate to see Linda's vocal genes come to an end!

  • Timeless beauty......

  • goosebumps

  • Great voice. Great Falsetto. Bring back lots of memories.

  • Even better than her recorded version. Thank you for posting, and Happy Birthday, Linda!

  • Linda is still the best female vocalist out there, in my opinion. Love you Linda, adios sweetheart.

  • @conmaesta I agree......

  • Why isn't she in the HOF? What a magnificant voice.

  • thank you for posting this-beautiful!

  • The Harmony by Kenny Edwards is amazing.

  • Ditto!!!!!!!!

  • I have always admired the harmony in this tune..Kenny does a fine job..

  • very pretty..

  • That girl is the Queen of 6/8 Rhythym voice..............flawless..........See you in the HOF someday.....Shameful it hasn't come to you by now, Linda. To be age 62 and still waiting is ridiculous. Hang in there girl

  • "They don't makem' like they used to..." I love you Linda!!!...

  • Beautiful artist, beautiful song. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • How beautiful, and so sad at the same time. She is magical and so gifted.

  • Never has there been a more pure voice although I wish she would record a song with Trisha Yearwood.

  • Goosebumps, I have goosebumps.

I'm totally in love with Linda now.

  • I remember hearing Linda as a child, now I have her entire 70's catalog in my cd collection. Mind you, I have been a metal guy all my life, but her beautiful voice is like velvet to the ears. She is the greatest ever.

  • Dear Linda... you are the best (period). I have admired you ALWAYS. I work with Anita Baker and you both need to to a duet. My best to you.

  • amen. a duo with Anita would be awesome.

  • A perfect little ballad Linda.... I'm so thankful to grow up with such beautiful music...

  • Thank you, thank you. Got me weeping.

  • such power, such pure sound, such perfection!

  • Fabulous fabulous! The BEST!

  • This is an amazing song by JD Souther performed by the quintessential performer|! I love it.

  • I never tire of hearing the voice of this angel, a voice of my youth. Discover this song. It is timeless.

  • Amen, diadreema!

  • They should make talent like that illegal, its too good for us.

  • A voice from the gods.Truly unbelievable!!

  • I've always loved Linda Ronstadt's voice. Desperado; Long, Long Time; oh, so many beatiful songs she sung..... such a pure,

    beautiful voice.

    She has an incredible talent.

  • Incomparable voice, technique, delivery. No one has come close to her level since.

  • Here, here!!

  • When, exactly, did we forget that a real singer doesn't need computers to make beautiful noise? Linda is the real thing ...

  • my god what a voice

  • Superb! Thank god/dess for Ronstadt.

  • Bernadette Peters also does a great version on one of her albums from the 90's (I think)—not as good as Linda's for my take, but VERY good.

  • Great classic penned by J.D. Souther.i just have listened both versions of it.the Linda's original cover and JD's from his very best. Linda's cover is superb and better than his songwritter in my opinion.

  • BRINGS ME TO TEARS,EVERYTIME

  • i've loved her since 'long long time'

what a talented smart funny insightful sensitive and generous person she is.

theres a wonderful interview with her on 'wait wait don't tell me' on NPR...google it.

  • I just listened to that. Very funny!

  • excellent!Linda is the best.

  • Pretty song and she sings it pretty, you're right on Linda!

  • Heart Like A Wheel is one of the best albums ever. Linda is a true treasure!

  • God-this is the most incredibly beautiful song recorded on video. Linda Ronstadt is the true delight of our times, our most treasured songstress. Bless her.

  • I am a 30 year old boy and all I can say is WOW what a wonderful talent and voice!!!

In our days nobody can touch her in music industry

  • Linda you are blessing, your gift and talent has blessed countless many, and will forever, your music is ageless, and we thank you for giving this to all.

  • How great is this?

  • Ive never, ever seen a perfomer give 110% every single note like Linda Ronstadt....she is absolutely amazing!...

  • Here is a rare thing - a lovely and supremely talented performer who has lost little of her beauty and none of her grace and humility down through the 40 or so years since she first took the music world by storm. Check out her Wikipedia entry ! I was swept away by her wonderful vocals and timeless internal beauty then, even as now. Rock on Linda....long may you run. You made the world a hell of a lot better place to be.

    Michael

  • Linda is the most diversified female vocalist of the last 40 years.

  • My favorite song from "Heart Like A Wheel"...lovely Linda conquers all.

  • I LOVE this song ... and no one can do it better. And (smirk!) I finally found a song my musician husband didn't know!

  • I fell in love with Linda in the Summer of Love (1967 for those of you younger than 50)with the Stone Poneys and I still love her today. Like EmpressEnterprises said " like a wall of Molasses coming atcha." So smooth and yet so much emotion coming from this beautiful lady.

  • What a beautiful comment about our lovely Linda! Well said.

  • Spot on mate....those of us who were there could never forget the Summer of Love. Greatest music era ever, 60s-70s. I have never heard a 61 year old woman hold those highs like she still can with perfect clarity and control. RnR Hall of Fame should be burned in effigy for intentionally overlooking LR....

  • She's not in the Hall of Fame? That's insane.

  • No, she has been perennially overlooked for some obscure reason, while other very questionable entities have been admitted. I'm wondering if Linda has to pass on before they come to their senses. Yes, it is insane.

    Cheers

  • We agree, my husband and I, she is at the top of the greats. Linda is also very versatile, passes through many gendres of music with awesome talent, giving us her great gift. For shame they have gone this long without giving her due honors, which she well deserves, and has for decades.

  • Absolutely agree GentleGrace! Unrivalled versatility and a terrific ability to put her own stamp on anything she does. Some trophies just don't go to the real winners I guess.

  • You mark my words, the likes of Madonna and Britney Spears will be inducted before Linda Ronstadt

Isnt Ann and Nancy Wilson missing also?

  • You're right about that. I loved Heart in their heyday also. Some other RnR Hall of Fame entries are best noted for their obscurity. Ms. Linda Ronstadt flatly dominated the 70s crop of female vocalists.

    Michael

  • sad to say but true

  • AWESOME! I was at that concert and her voice was like a wall of mollasses coming atcha! Unbelievable vocals!! Thanks for posting!

  • Rarely has the combination of beauty and artistry haunted me so. But I need this song to get "MacArthur Park" out of my mind! It's been chasing me for a week now.

  • Was she crying at the beginning?

  • I think so. I wonder what she was singing. Does anyone know?

  • No, she commented that the lights were too hot and causing her to become overheated.

  • Such passion in her voice.Beatifully sung by a great artist.

  • Thanks for finding and posting this remarkable video. Ronstadt and Souther are a superb combination.

  • I forgot to mention Edward's great voice and banjo.

  • Note that Ms. Rondstadt acknowledges J.D. Souther's voice (music & lyrics) in this song in the very beginning. The purity of that thought is part of why her voice and the style she brings to the song have a timeless purity...like a river flows. But then, you all knew that as a number commented "pure" in a number of ways.

  • she's one of my favourite "housefriends" since the early

    70's, she's got a liftime-credit.

  • One of my favorite songs of all times. Extremely pure voice!

  • I fell in love with music because of this woman.

  • This beautiful woman is in a class all by herself

  • Truly the most pure, most beautiful, most wonderful voice EVER! I've loved Linda for 30 years. She's the best.

  • I started listening to Linda in 1970 and never stopped. She really does have the most wonderful voice EVER!!

  • Ditto ! The best EVER!

  • ronstadt by far, Made this song..great arrangments....

  • Boy they don't write songs like this anymore. Gorgeous song, gorgeous vocal. Pure music heaven!!!

  • listen to the writers version on "black rose"

    (JD Souther)

  • I love this song. Wow. this really brings back memories. Rondstadt's voice is pure and

    sweet!

  • That is indeed Kenny Edwards on banjo. Kenny first joined up with Linda with the Stone Ponies dating back to the '60s and played in her band for most of the '70s. Google Kenny and you'll find his own site.

  • OH God, this is my fave song she ever recorded. I didn't think I'd ever see any video of her singing it.

  • Great pipes; great passion; beautiful woman. Heart Like a Wheel was one of my very favorite albums. Anybody got that song, Heart Like a Wheel, on video??? Thanks!

  • Helluva good album...,and a sweet J.D. Souther composition....

  • Love it!!

  • hot hot hot. what a pinup she was !

  • Her vocal quality amplifies everything around her and makes a poor recording come through just fine. She was also a heartthrob back in the day.

  • This is the 1980 HBO special. Isn't that Kenny Edwards on banjo? On this tour and album (Mad Love), she replaced 2-3 band members with more rock n roll oriented guys to reflect the more back to basics rock n roll album. I think KE made an appearance for this song with the banjo. Although I've never seen him play a banjo, it sure looks like him.

  • Heart Like A Wheel is one of my all time favorite albums. This is one of my favs from that album. Linda was/is a great interpretur of other songwriters material.

  • DEfinitely...HBO should market this! Heart Like A Wheel was one of my favorite albums....

  • Bela voz, mas a qualidade do vídeo é muito ruim.

  • Magnificent. Is the Herb Pedersen on banjo and harmony vocals. A very fine musician. I love him with her on "Queen of the Silver Dollar" too!

  • very grainy video but from seeing Herb Pederson from his bluegrass efforts out here in California I don't think th e fellow in the video is Herb. Maybe your reference is Herb on the original recording.

  • I've been a Linda fan for 25 years.

    She's just great.

  • She is a class act. A true American vocal treasure.

  • I "fell in love" with Linda Ronstadt in the 70's or 80's. I heard the song "I can't help it (if I'm still in love with you)" on the radio in the late 70's, and they did it for me. I was a fan!!!

It's a shame they won't release her "Retrospective" albums on CD. It is one of my favorite album sets of all time.

  • Markofkane2, a two-CD set that contains all of the songs on "Retrospective" and more. 'The Best of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years' has 47 tracks.

  • I don't think it had "Hobo" and "Some of Shelly's Blues", "Different Drum", "Just a little bit of rain"

Some of these missing songs are my favorites. But no problem. I got them all downloaded from itunes and various other sources.

  • retrospective (double lps) has been released on cds before, perhaps there is no current re-issue of it.most of the tracks on that album are availble on her capitol best of .check it out.

  • This entire concert was breathtaking. I wish they'd release it on DVD.

  • Stephen, very often it is available on Ebay. I have a copy of it and it's just wonderful.

  • Even after 30+ years, this song can still bring tears to my eyes. What a treat to see it performed live. Thanks for sharing!

  • I agree, they dont make beautiful songs like this any more...so beautiful
