The drumming is great but I'd like to see more energy from the dancers, I don't feel like they're giving it their all...that's kinda slow for soko, let's pick it UP!
The people in this group simply have a genuine interest in drum and dance and have gone way far out of their way to support and respect the African artists. This group has helped to make a lot of positive things happen for the Guinean artists , and when you sit here and blindly hate you display how archaic and ignorant you really are. We all have something to share. Stop being so closed minded and embrace the future.
That's so funny that someone gave you a thumbs down. lol I live in the Bay Area and I already know how Santa Cruz, a predominantly white town gets down. You should have seen the all white sabar dance company that opened up for Youssou N'Dour several years back. Man the Senegalese community was appalled. lmao! Welcome to California!
I don't care what other race embrace our culture, but I'm pissed cause there's no videos of BLACK people doing African dance...We need to embrace the culture MORE then them. Being universal has NOTHING to do with it...
When I come online to research the dance, all I see is other races doing the same dances I've been doing now for 13yrs! I want to see the some black people. Sorry, but white people CAN'T teach me how to be what I already am...
if you were to look to the right under "Related Videos" you'd see that its 75% black africans. IN AFRICA.
when it comes to the whole skin colour thing i find it ridiculous that through history there has been so much drama, when we are all the same under the skin.
BUT-
i fully agree, and i think its great that you care about your heritage.
too many people in this world have lost sight and seem to have forgotten where they are from. its a shame.
I SO agree, dread. We are one race-- the human race. Who truly claim only one heritage-- and what insecurity would even make that a necessity? If one culture can share with another; and when we are smart and interesting enough to RECEIVE all the beauty in each other's cultures, we are all the richer.
Paul Simon, for example, did the world a big favor, IMO: many African Americans themselves were not even aware of the depth of beautiful music and talent emanated from indigenous South Africa.
Darling, I grew up in Africa, and Mama's music has been part of our lives for more than my own 46 years. I also know precisely when awareness of South African music began to dawn on the American conscience. White Americans received it with appreciation and gladness in the 80s. Black Americans (with the exception of a couple of civil rights leaders) did not give this amazing genre of music so much as a nod until Mandela was released less than 20 years ago.
Everyone wanted to sing O Sisikelela at the time but even now, who is promoting and producing this music here? Is it what Blacks are buying, primarily? Having a chip on your shoulder is one thing, but it cannot just be indiscriminately tossed anywhere 'White' is mentioned. When credit is due, be honest and gracious enough to grant it. We want to encourage good behavior, not DIScourage it by cursing every White person we see-- good or bad.
black people knew about hugh masekela since the 60 and 70. how are you going to tell me about what black americans knew? i am black american. miriam makeba's song pata pata was a hit among blacks in america in the 70's. thank you.
Music is universal. If you have the will to do it - may God grant you the strength. If you try to cut people who have talent and ambition, it's only out of jealousy. These folks are dedicated to their craft and no one can deny the joy it brings them. Nothing entitles you to make music - only a passion. Booya! Malinke music is a gift from God!

WE JUST CAN'T HAVE NOTHHIN HUH!!! White folks playin African drums and and doing african dance!! They got to taint every single part of African culture huh. I wish white folks would leave someting sacred for us.They have absolutely no bussiness doing this!! Tragedy, they look ridiculous!!
I like this video clip. The drumming was good and i love it when the drummers smile and participate. The dancing was good also, but I think the drumming outdid the dancers

personally i'd take out the chimes or whatever the background sound is and replace it with a slightly more subtle instrument :/
excellent drumming though!

music is universal, if someone likes a style of music, why should the colour of their skin make a difference?
bad brains are black rastafarians who played and were pioneers in hardcore punk rock.
