Splinter Cell - "Weapons is your last resort, Darkness is always your friend" I find my self attached to SC cause of the playing style.
I still haven't played MGS (plz dont hate me, curse me or place voodoo doll on your wall) but I still willing to try MGS and I hope is exceeds my expectation of the game
@silverfox247 I've always been a MGS fan. I touched the first SC game ages ago and didn't like it back then, but i picked up Conviction the other day, and it is awesome. I like both series, although i'm gonna have to stick with MGS. You should pick up MGS 4 if you have a ps3, if not, you could buy the MGS HD Edition (includes 2,3, and Peace Walker) for around $60 AUD.
Mgs because it has better story, ost, boss battles and collectibles however chaos theory and conviction were awesome, conviction was brutal and cool anyway i still prefer mgs since i felt more connected to the game and it was funnier to play for me
My #1 reason why MGS wins: Tactile controls vs toggle controls. MGS uses the pressure sensitive buttons and button/direction combos to give snake an enormous amount of moves that feel like you controling him. SC uses on screen button prompts that disconnects me from the character a little. that being said i love SC and think it has better story presentation for my western tastes.
i personally like splinter cell better. probably because i played that series more than MGS. ive only played MGS4 but that game was still epic. It was like watching a movie. I still like splintercells gamepaly better
@Sanguiluna Bullshit, only in the first 2 Metal Gears and MGS you didn't have to hide the bodies in the rest you actually had to hide them. As for hiding in shadows that's all Sam does to sneak around, you could be right in front of a guard in a shadow that's not that dark at all and the guard still will not see you. In MGS you have to use camo and your surroundings to hide and you can lure guards away from their posts to sneak in.
@72Aztec I make it look easy and stupid? I made it sound like a stealth game and thats what it is. In mgs you use CAMO, suppresed weapons,YOU CAN LURE GUARDS so you can sneak by, etc. In splinter cell you use shadows?,suppresed weapons, and pipes? Now tell me witch one sounds more like a stealth game.

You can lure guards in SC, you can climb pipes(as you said) you can do pretty much anything a special ops agent would do when infiltrating a facility. Get in and out with the least casualties and wihtout getting spotted. Everything you mentioned about MGS can be done in SC. Get your facts before you make it seem that SC has nothing that MGS.

@stupidvid5229 In MGS, you kill a guard without hiding the body and you leave the area, you're safe. Do the same in SC, and when you enter the next area an alarm will be raised because another guard will have discovered the body offscreen. You tell me which is more realistic.
BTW: Using darkness and shadows to aid in concealment is an actual technique used by special forces units, such as the SEALs. Cardboard boxes are NOT.

Weather it be, a world of a puck that eats dots and runs from ghosts or a skilled spy/soldier in missions trying to stop world war 3 from happening or stop terrorist from blowing up buildings and killing thousands. Then you wake up and think: "Wow that was a scary dream..." or "Damn, that dream felt real." The more down to earth the game, the better the immersion. And it depends if you want a unrealistic game that will take you from reality or a realistic one that will make you feel it's real. That's games kid.

In my opinion... Spinter Cell is better, I mean sure the story of MGS is 'better' but if i wanted a good story, id grab a book. Splinter Cell has better gameplay, the action and steath is amazing, MGS4 is good but i dont like it because it's too far fetched, i enjoy Splinter Cell because its more real to me... i feel more... into the game when i play it. When i play MGS im just thinking... "Didn't i see this in an anime...? In... every anime?" Splinter Cell seemed to have better immersion.

I like the realness of splinter cell but The story just got dumber and boring when Sam's daughter got killed. but it has the best stealth action game play over MGS. MGS has a better story, Kojima said he intentionally put real life issues in the MGS like child soldiers and nuclear proliferation. What do you expect from MGS? its a Japanese game. You don't compare these two games with each-other, Metal Gear Solid is more of an Action/Stealth game with an amazing story, Splinter Cell doesn't have that much experience as Metal Gear Solid. I mean it is a stealth game, yeah, but it's too different. Metal Gear Solid actually made my cry, Splinter Cell did not, Why? Because MGS is more epic....
First of all, you can't say how good a game really is for how much it has sold. If that was the case, then you would all be saying that Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga are the best musicians alive... Second, don't compare the games! Enjoy them! Play them! MGS is, in my opinion, one of the best games I ever played. It doesn't mean that for me, Splinter Cell sucks, it's just that the gameplay it's just to awkward for me. It's just a matter of taste.
Both games are incredible. While Splinter Cell is more stealthy and realistic than Metal Gear Solid, MGS is more cinematic, and is the reason why SC exists in the first place. In short, both games are epic and legendary. I don't think these games should be compared because they aren't the same type of games.

Unlike with Splinter Cell in which, the guards don't notice sam's goggles in the dark and they don't see his silhouette not even at one meter when there is light in the background and the character standing right in the middle (of a corridor for example). But guess what. They are both just games. Not reality. And also, when you put Snake with the box equipped in enemy's patrol route or in the middle of a corridor, the enemy will 100% pick up the box.
Real men don't act like hiding in the shadows all the time that helps them to get past the enemy. Also, real men don't stab the other from behind. Solid Snake=A fucking deadly combination that fucks everything in his path and who do not rely on any gadgets like sticky camera, thermal vision etc.

but honestly I think the Stealth's Splinter Cell Conviction was much higher than MGS4 stealth. while the snake thinks of a way of neutralizing the enemy, Sam is hanging from the ceiling staring at the head of three enemies.
i love the splinter cell games but the only reason i haven't played MGS is no Sony console, would anyone recommend getting the PS3 and PS2 just for the MGS series?

Then you wake up and think: "Wow that was a scary dream..." or "Damn, that dream felt real." The more down to earth the game, the better the immersion. And it depends if you want a unrealistic game that will take you from reality or a realistic one that will make you feel it's real. That's games kid.

I prefer a game that doesn't have some dumb plot that's like oh yeah this guy is immortal and vampire, and this person and snip from 5 miles away and... it's all just dumb to me. It's the same reason i hate SciFi games. I don't like that whole unrealistic story with a cast of strange 'created while high' characters.

Yeah MGS is a more in depth game with the story but thats because it's what MGS is all about, Splinter Cell was originally about an extreamly skilled spy from an organization called Third Echlion doing missions that lead up to a overall conflict. It wasn't some Sci-Fi story that has been told 300 other times. And games arn't about focusing on fantasy...

In my opinion... Spinter Cell is better, I mean sure the story of MGS is 'better' but if i wanted a good story, id grab a book. Splinter Cell has better gameplay, the action and steath is amazing, MGS4 is good but i dont like it because it's too far fetched, i enjoy Splinter Cell because its more real to me... i feel more... into the game when i play it. When i play MGS im just thinking... "Didn't i see this in an anime...? In... every anime?" Splinter Cell seemed to have better immersion.

It was fun, but it wasn't Splinter Cell to me, i hope with Splinter Cell 6 they bring it back to its roots. But I still say the original 3 Splinter Cells were the best, they truely were Stealth-action redefined. MGS1 was kinda fun, every other one sucked. Plain sucked.

SC sucked after Pandora Tomorrow, all that awesome NSA Fifth Freedom stuff went away after that. I like the realness of splinter cell but The story just got dumber and boring when Sam's daughter got killed. but it has the best stealth action game play over MGS. MGS has a better story, Kojima said he intentionally put real life issues in the MGS like child soldiers and nuclear proliferation. What do you expect from MGS? its a Japanese game. Without MGS there would be no SC. I like both games.

First of all, you can't say how good a game really is for how much it has sold. If that was the case, then you would all be saying that Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga are the best musicians alive... Second, don't compare the games! Enjoy them! Play them! MGS is, in my opinion, one of the best games I ever played. It doesn't mean that for me, Splinter Cell sucks, it's just that the gameplay it's just to awkward for me. It's just a matter of taste.

Both games are incredible. While Splinter Cell is more stealthy and realistic than Metal Gear Solid, MGS is more cinematic, and is the reason why SC exists in the first place. In short, both games are epic and legendary. I don't think these games should be compared because they aren't the same type of games.

Unlike with Splinter Cell in which, the guards don't notice sam's goggles in the dark and they don't see his silhouette not even at one meter when there is light in the background and the character standing right in the middle (of a corridor for example). But guess what. They are both just games. Not reality. And also, when you put Snake with the box equipped in enemy's patrol route or in the middle of a corridor, the enemy will 100% pick up the box.

@Youkickmydog1988 I guess it just depends how you like video games, i personally want a video game to be a little realistic but not too much, and other people want a game that is so unrealistic that you can take on like 100000 guys and win. anyways its all a matter of opinion.

@Youkickmydog1988 snake does the same moves too and what dum ass guard will be fooled by a box and sam has to go into a place and use tactics and find out a way to do it, snake just runs in with guns ablazin and calles that stealth

admit, MGS4 is better, both in history worthy of an Oscar-winning film, as in characters, graphics, and has thousands of fans around the world,
but honestly I think the Stealth's Splinter Cell Conviction was much higher than MGS4 stealth. while the snake thinks of a way of neutralizing the enemy, Sam is hanging from the ceiling staring at the head of three enemies.

i love the splinter cell games but the only reason i haven't played MGS is no Sony console, would anyone recommend getting the PS3 and PS2 just for the MGS series?

I would say get a PS3 for MGS4 but I don't recommend spending $300 on a console for a game you may/may not like.
I would recommend buying a PS2 (new or used their both cheap) and giving MGS2 and MGS3 a try and then you take it from there....

im tired of all this bs about how mgs is better than slpinter cell, mgs hase HORRIBLE stealth and all of thoes people that say snake would win in a finght because of cqc, well sam fisher is trained in krav maga, an real marshal art not some made up crap
