I was watching this race, they wouldn't show the replay in fear that someone was hurt, I remember yelling at the tv going "OH MY GOD SLOW THE F*** DOWN GUYS!!" They never did show the replay until the Speed news that night...turns out it pretty much ended Billy Venterini's driving career.
@JeffGordon24Dupont Not sure when ARCA saw its last Pontiac, it's mostly old kit in ARCA so could have been more recent. There was still a Pontiac in the NASCAR Candian Tire Series in 2009 (can't remember if it was still being used in 2010 though).
I also remember watching this race. The broadcast ended almost immediately after where AE1974's video ends. Then the Shootout feed started. I never knew that ARCA thought there were multiple fatalities in the wreck and that's why there were no replays. I always thought they were just pressed for time and had to switch to NASCAR asap. Haven't seen this in five years! Thanks for posting!
@bakinginheat9201 No one died. SPEED ended the coverage immediately after the crash and didn't show any replays because they THOUGHT someone had died.
@nashvilleraidersfan According to records, this race was shortened by a curfew. The race had to end by 7 PM in order to prepare for the pre-race show then the Shootout at 8 PM, so they were on an early exit.
@leafsrule1990 They didn't show a replay because multiple cars went flipping and another car (which had been sitting motionless on the track for about 10 seconds) got hit head-on at 188mph.
They were sure there were multiple fatalities in the wreck. The guy who got hit head one broke his back in several different places.
They did show a replay at the end of the year when that driver (Billy Venturini) returned to racing. Do a search you'll find it.
@leafsrule1990 you never get a replay of a crash until it is confirmed that no serious injuries were suffered. Sometimes there is an exception if no serious injury looks likely, and a replay slips out - like in Dale Earnhardt's deadly crash. But if there is suspected injuries, they wait until A) confirmation of no injury or B) confirmation that the driver is going to live before you'll ever see a replay. This is out of respect to the families of the drivers who may be watching the race.
@Nxtl68 I watched this race and the shootout. The Shootout started at it's scheduled time. The ARCA race was shorten due to a lengthly Red flag due to the Clair Zimmerman crash. They only completed around 65 or the scheduled 80 laps.
@Dalejr88rox Billy Ventunini was severely injured in this wreck (several breaks in his back), the other clip you a referring to is the only replay of the inicident which has been shown.
It was shown almost 12 months after this wreck and Billy Venturini was talking about his experience while they were showing it. Hence, he was credited (for some weird reason) as commentating in that clip :)

Almost hate it when announcers praise a driver for second place. From a drivers perspective, you'd rather be praised for a win!!

If I'm correct this was the "Next yellow ends the race" debacle because the Shootout start was being pushed so far back because of all the crashes.
