My bike has three gears on the front and seven on the back. In order not to coss the chain, is it reasonable to have a rule of thumb whereby I keep the gears coordinated like shown below?

@Cycofoo1914 that helmet doesnt offer any protection, he should go with the fox helmets or something similar, the ones that have a muzzle and cover the whole face
Great vid...I've been riding for 2 days and noticed that Cycling is not as straight forward as one might think. I specially had issues with gearing ( I was cross chaining), this helped out a great deal.
I can;t take him seriously with that helmet aha :P

Back: 1, 2 Front: 1
Back: 3, 4, 5 Front: 2
Back: 6, 7 Front: 3
Or am I misunderstanding the concept?
