i would have thought because its old the guide rails would be worn and both of you on the same size is causing it to scrape off the rails.

i dont see the problem. the cables cant get jammed, the hydraulics cant get stuck and the "wheels" roller guides cant come off.

Have you reported this problem to your building operations manager? This is serious- judging from the carpet it looks like an old elevator. GET SOMEONE TO FIX THIS ASAP!

Owner and maintenance know. Owner is too cheap to replace the damned things

that is very unsafe to do because the cables can get jammed or the hydrulics can get stuck or the wheels going along the tracks can come off DONT DO THAT
