  • I have/had both a Fender "hot rod" and a Marshall JCM 2000 series combo. I also own a Strat and a Les Paul. When running the LP through the Fender I fought with it on clean and distortion, I couldn't find the "sweet spot". Running the Strat through the Fender had incredible warm clean tones but the overdrive sounded bad. Running the Strat through the Marshall over all great warm cleans and great dirty electric to all out lead and all points in between. Running the LP through the Marshall is ju

  • What a great demo... but can you tell the guy on the Fender, He's too loud, I cant hear the guy on the Marshall!

  • Again, it's just a matter of taste. I personally prefer the Marshall because of its warmth.

  • i think that marshall is sounds more vintage

  • marshall gain = compression

fender gain = uncompressed but can be controlled with a pedal.

marshall compression cant be taken away as far as i know :/

but its personal preference anyway. Great vid loved it thanks :)

  • I have to question the settings on this Marshall AVT. Mine sounds much warmer and Plexi sounding than this does. I have the AVT 275, but I thought they all had similar tones. I could be wrong. On mine, with the right settings, it blows a Fender Blues jr away for tone at low volume and especially clean headroom for loud volume. It's not fair because it's a much bigger combo.

Very Nice job on the demo production, though

  • That buzzy Marshall overdrive was horrid...

  • @Nochix96isnuts I think out of these two I'd get the blues jr as it is all valve and tried one in store and it sounds amazing clean and pushed. But I think Marshall will suit the les Paul a little better. Best thing is to try some out at a local guitar store and fiddle with the settings. At the end of the day, how you set it up will matter more than what brand it is.

  • I like blues jr. when played with strat. however this video showed me that LPs are probably best suited for a Marshall amp. the distorted channel is somewhat very specific to me as I never really like marshall's fizzy and buzzy gain, I like the grit and teeth-grinding of a blues jr better.

Fender really knows what they are doing with amps for their guitars, but it seems like they forgot the rest of the market. fender+fender is a perfect marriage, LP+fender would probably end up with divorce...:D

  • @seasonedtoker I tend to agree with this. This has been my findings too! Thanks for posting

  • MARSHALL!

  • it both has his good things... its just people's opinion in what he thinks is best... im more of a fan of marshall in some perspectives, like hard rock, metal,... but ill choose fender as clean or overdriven crunchy blues or classic rock...

  • Clean. Blues Jr. Overdrive: Marshall

  • Comment removed

  • You're talking apples and oranges here in this comparison. I own an AVT50. It's actually a decent amp. I think he could have adjusted a little better tone out of his. For a solid state amp, it comes closer than any other I've played to "tube warmth" It does have a 12ax7 preamp. I use mine with a blues pedal which also helps. I can get close to a tube sound. I also own and play an original PTP Budda Super Drive (serial#101), a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, A Vox AC15 so I am familiar with good tube tone

  • The overdriven blues junior sounds amazing. What a nice tone!

  • Fender wins both. Warmer and less buzzy on overdriven sounds

  • Marshall sounds brighter

  • My vote is Fender ! Both channels !

I'm a Marshall Jcm800 fan... but, Fender in this situation wins !

  • my vote to Fender..

  • Absolutley top notch video mate!

    Just waiting on part 2...................

Fender Blues Junior VS Marshall AVT50 | FENDER TELECASTER / STRAT | Mark DiSciullo

    Hint hint, pretty please???

    ;)

  • Marshall, Marshall, Marshall, Marshall, Marshall, Marshall, Marshall,Marshall or Fender

  • How odd. I liked the Marshall's clean tone better, but I liked the Fenders overdriven tone better. The Fender clean = dull, Marshall clean = bright. Fender overdrive = bright, Marshall overdrive = dull.

  • Fender wins but only because the Marshall is not all tube. Unfair test

  • 1:37 tells me everything I need to know. The Marshall sounds tinny and cheap, the Fender growls and shoves an "organic" nut sack right in your face. I hate the "organic" term, I'm just being an ass, but I'm sold on the Blues Junior, I'd love one in my "arsenal" of "axe" sound projectors. Wow, there's so many dumb terms in the guitar world. I blame Rock Band.

    Great playing too, btw.

  • Wicked demo dude, for me the fender is better, the Marshall was a little "tinny" for my liking, I've always been a fenderhead though. As for the clean, they sounded almost identical to me, which is good for the guitarists who don't want to choose between a set clean and distorted sound from an amp, and can instead just choose their distorted sound :)

  • @LordAzai I agree, man. Fender tube amps are amazing, and with a great boutique pedal you can get some Marshall sounds. I was surprised with the Marshall clean sound, I always hear nothing but negatives about a Marshall's clean channel.

  • @MeaningCorrupted1 " I was surprised with the Marshall clean sound, I always hear nothing but negatives about a Marshall's clean channel."

The Marshall AVT50 and JCM2000 are near Fender quality in the clean channel. Fender distortion, whether amp or combo, is feeble in comparison to a correctly set Marshall, with the exception of the Marshall Haze, which is probably the weakest distortion channel I've ever heard.

  • I must be hearing something different to the rest of you! I think the Marshall has the nicer tone, its not as cutting, but warmer on both channels. I find the fender very "sharp" as opposed the the Marshalls "fuller" tone.

......and bearing in mind that the Marshall is a Hybrid and will probably be more reliable..... Plus it probably costs ALOT cheaper than the Fender..... its a one horse race for me!

  • @ItsARockThang All great points! Thanks for posting!

  • The marshal sounds much better than the fender with distortion in my opinion.

  • can you make one like that but fender vs orange please :)

  • omg they sound soo different :O Its fender amp for me I gues :R

  • The fender DESTROYS that mashall.

  • that overdriven marshall sounds waay better but for clean settings, fender wins.

  • i think you all people forgot that marshall avt is an hybrid amp while the fender is a tube amp

  • I Think it is the best review on Youtube.. Two Best selling amps, Quite affordable! It's interisting for a lot of people, not like those 10 minute Expensive amps reviews that anyone can buy.. After this video, i'm really convinced with the Fender amp, by the way...

  • @bagueroso Thanks for the feedback. The Blues Junior is great, especially when you consider all the modifications you can easily make to custom tailor it to your sound! This amp is best when you can drive the amp a bit (overdrive) . I have found compared to other Fender amps, that the clean tone is not as great. Best of luck!

  • @disciullo77 Yes but it defenitely has that ''Rusty- Tube amp'' Sound... But I play a Gibson SG, i'm hesitating a little for a Vox amplifier with tube preamp...

  • fender with out a doubt!!!!!

  • damn marshall got kicked off :? in every aspect that fender amp is better ;o

  • Congratulations! A very interesting for me that I Marshall amps and Gibson Les Paul Traditional. Thank you!

  • Best Gear review ever. this is how every review needs to be youtube land!!!!!! I have the Blonde Blues Junior as well, I named her Shelly :) and I love her so!!! Nice review!

  • marshall for metal. fender for blues and hardrock comparing this two amp its nonsense

  • @bmwgtrm3 lol

  • now that's a demo....usually never finish watching a video but am on my third play here. there are things i like about both amps.... the fender cuts much better.... it all depends what music you play but for blues the fender is it, ...hence the name 'blues jr'.....I have the Blues Jr and love it....thanks for a great demo!!!

  • The Fender was light years better.

  • @Philtration I have owned the AVT50 for almost ten years and like it a lot, but I agree the Fender sounds waayyy better, at least in this video.

  • @10forRP I would like to see Marshall make a really good amp for under $800.

They know how to make great amps but they have missed the boat on the reasonably priced ones while Fender keeps a lot of their gear at a realistic price.

  • I played a Les Paul Trad today through a Blues Junior and it melted my brain.. It was the best combo of guitar and amp on overdrive I've heard in a long time..

  • The Fender has a more body to it, The Marshall has more top end

  • Fender amp clean = winner

    Marshall amp distortion= winner

Fender amp dis= old buddy guy style

    Marshall amp clean = 50's style ???

  • Dumb question, these two amps, how would you run headphones for those after midnight runs? The Marshal may have a jack, but on the fender, would you unplug the speaker in the back and jack in there? Thanks.

  • Distorted, the Marshall is better.

    Clean, Fender all the way.

Just get both amps and switch through them like this dude.

  • lol fender is a tube amp, whereas the marshall is a ss amp....

    not fair :P

  • This isn't very fair at all for marshall, The fender Blues jr. is all tube with el84's for power tubes. The marshall Avt has a semi tube pre-amp section, and purely solid state power amp. The blues jr brand new is around $500-600, whereas the AVT is around $300-400 brand new, and is much bigger and more powerful, meaning the value is somewhat less. The AVT is not an accurate representation of marshall tone at all, it's a starters amp for sure. The Blues jr absolutely wipes the floor with it.

  • pretty obvious whos better

  • Very informative! Much sound, no talk, but all the information is available. I'm tired of amps reviews, where the guitar played remains a mystery. But here everything is OK! Thanks!

  • @Flamewalk Thanks for the compliment! I've experienced the same frustration in the past! :)

  • This isn't even a fair comparison. The Blues Jr. (I own one) sounds a whole lot better with single coil fender type guitars. I'm never very happy with the way it sounds with humbucker guitars so I always use other amps for non-fender guitars. If the demo used a strat or a tele, it would have been even more one-sided in favor of the blues junior. In short, the marshall hybrid had a huge handicap and it *still* lost.

  • wow. I have never realized how much better a tube amp is than a ss. I have had a marshall mg100hdfx for a couple years now. I used to think people that shit talked ss amps were just snobs. But now I realize the tone quality of a tube amp. Not to bash ss. I love my marshall and have gotten many great tones out of it. But what I am looking for in tone no solid state can provide. Thank you!

  • I like the fender clean tones and the marshall overdrive tones..too bad you can't get the best of both worlds.

  • Some opinions are better than others.

  • FENDER ALL-THE-WAY

  • I'm feeling the Marshall WAYYYY more. Love the clean sound... Fresh, clear, and I sense some boost?

  • so bad sound quality...

bj ftw... I have one :P

  • the new blues jr makes the old one sound really boxy, and yet still, the old one beats the marshall... the marshall is hybrid, though, if you read in the beginning, so it really isnt a bad amp... but the clean channel is more important than od, and because of that, blues jr. wins

  • I think that the Overdrive on this Marshall is too thin. I guess I would back the gain and increase the mids and the bass. The Fender sounded best in the Overdrive-section, but clean, the Marshall wins.

  • WTF! People go and buy some ears....Marshall sounds cheap and plastic compared to BJ.

  • I like both fender and marshall. I use fender though. Ive got a fender frontman 65r. The clean sound less twangy than marshalls but the fender amps have a kind of fuzzy distortion.

  • FENDER !!

  • If you're a metal head, don't get either. If you love blues, country, classic rock, grunge, etc. get the Fender! We'll put together video by the way.

  • th fender has too much bass

i personally like the marshall amp company

  • gana fender

  • Interesting... Liked the Marshall better clean and the Fender better on overdrive. Really hard to judge though. I'm sure a guy who plays that well knows his amp settings, but the smallest setting change can make such a big difference. Bottom line is, there are two sweet amps there.

  • this makes the marshall sound like crap...

  • from this video the fender certainly sound more warm~~ im in luv

  • are the Marshall AVT50 a solid state amp or tube amp?? im confused

  • FENDER WINS: FATALITY

  • Fender wins again.

  • Les Paul = Marshall

  • the fender amp on overdrive is more like jimmie hendrix and the marshall is the sound of like eric clapton but i have to say that i like the marshall sound better keep rockin!!!!

  • My buddy had an AVT50 Marshall head. It sounded pretty good but was mothing great. One day it just decided to work when it wanted to so he sold it to a guy as is for $50. I just bought a blues jr. today and it is a much nicer amnp. Who cares about the drive channel. Use a blues driver or a tubescreamer.

  • I think its the settings that are giving the avt a bad rap, hands down on heavier riffs that require more distortion the Fender doesnt hold a candle to the avt though i must admit the clean sounded better, but like i said this could all be down to the settings like Audio slayer said the clean greatly enhances when you crank up the gain. Both sweet amps though, good demo.

  • Do you remember the Overdrive Setting on the Fender Blues Junior at 1:45 ? is the Fat Button "on"? I love this sound :-)

  • I prefer the sound of the Fender Blues Junior, The Marshall sounds to bright and thin...I have also different amps and when I compare I always prefer the Fender sound. Great Demo and great playing, I have exactly the same Guitar :-)

    Cheers

    Ed

  • hmmm i think you should use a Strat and then do the test once more

  • The decision would probably be a brand loyal choice. I would go with Fender.

  • the fender distortion sounds way to harsh, hurts my ears even...but the clean sounds nice.

Id rather have the Marshall though ;)

  • It's hard to beat a classic tube amp. By the way the marshall sounds awful.

  • Sounds like the Marshall has more balls!! which I like

  • Just saw one at my local guitar store for $199! Man.. These things are just worth so much more.

  • I own the AVT50, and I have to say that the clean channel is MUCH more warm and full when you have the gain past 12'oc. Nor do I really prefer the gain that low on the OD channel.. Sorry, but I believe the Marshall needs a better chance than just this demo. I'll do mine soon(once I get a mic) and post it as a response if you don't mind. :)

  • @Audioslayer Go for it man...I feel the AVT line of Marshall amps are the most under-rated models. They are great amps and deserve the recognition!

  • I used a Marshall AVT50 head today (live) and people said I sounded good afterwards, I did change the Valve though :) they are nice amps, don't know why some people dislike the clean channel? it sounds fine to me

  • @Audioslayer

i to own AVT50 and my clean is't warm, BUT it doesn't have that sharpness that this in demo has. and not to mention what a great power it has.

  • @Audioslayer Couldn't agree more. A Les Paul through the gain channel on the AVT50 can sound much more raucous and enjoyable than this vid shows. Raise the gain and play with the EQ a bit.

  • No Contest: the Blues Jr. is miles better. Is that the stock Fender design speaker, or is it one of the Special Edition Upgrades (a Jenson or a Celestion of some kind?).

  • @bonestructureofakung It's the stock Fender Eminence speaker

  • @bonestructureofakung no such thing as better, just opinions. i prefer marshall honestly.

  • which settings did you use to make the fender sound so awesome when it was distorted? :)

  • The best video using these amps so far.

  • Nice! did you use any pedal for the fender amp, if you had: what pedal? thanks

  • @MrMilezz Thanks for your comment!...No pedals. I plugged in direct to to each amp.

  • Marshall wins because it has much sharper overdrive.

Or as I like to call it: "Slash-Sound!"

  • In parts I preferred the Fender, but I would still take the Marshall. Country and rocky blues the Fender might have a chance, double the volume and I think the Marshall will pull ahead and when it comes to harder rock, faster passages etc the Marshall will walk it. Those AVT's are bloody loud, heavy and reliable and you can have fun changin valves if your distortion aint quite givin it to ya. 50w valvestate is closer to 100 w full tube.

  • @kiwi328i I agree that the AVTs are great amps. Highly under-rated! These amps do a great job of capturing that classic Marshall sound

  • Do you have the scoop on for the marshall? The distortion sounds a lot thinner than the fender, the mids might help even the playing field.

  • DUDEEEE SWEET LICKS great sound... the fender's WAY better by the way... got all the vibe going real great sound!

  • fender all the way

  • im curious

how would the marshall amp handle a bass?

  • @dlight247 hmmm...never tried that. I bet the clean channel would be ok for practice or small gigs

  • @dlight247 the bass will ruin the speaker.

  • @DisasterBlaster500 ahhh alrighty then im glad you told me this

i was weeks away from a bad decision

im just going to be smart and buy a bass amp for a bass like i should be doing anyway

  • They need to make an amp that sounds like a fender clean and a marshall dirty. That would be awesome!!! I'm ganna have to go with the Fender on this one though.... just wish it wasn't so muddy when its pushed. Prolly not that way with single coils though

  • fender

  • Fender !!!

  • i prefer the sound of the fender for the clean, but for lead guitar u can not beat the old marshall - gibson match uppp

  • were the knob settings exactly the same on both amps? same mic used on each? one can make any amp sound good OR bad, so it's important to do things RIGHT

  • @tony93666 Yeah...as exact as I could get 'em as far as the mics and knob settings. It's not in any way a scientific comparison. I'm just showing off my two amps for fun.

  • The tone you're getting out of that Blues Junior is beast. I think this video just sealed the deal. New amp, eh?

  • Fender !!!

  • I doubt the marshall was recorded properly. This comparison shows nothing.

  • That Marshall sounds like absolute trash on all accounts. Absolutely horrid. It doesn't help matters any that you are playing an all tube amp next to it...but hey...one can compare nearly anything to anything else.

  • no pods comparar un fender del año del pedo y 100% valvular con un marshall atv50 prevalvular... no estan al mismo nivel.. no es lo mismo! no es para comparar..

  • How can you compare an all tube amp to a solid state. No comparison IMO

  • How can you compare an all tube amp to a solid state. No comparison IMO

  • Tubes>Everything else!

  • @scumcity14 Let's be smart and compare a Ferrari with a Peugeot 206!

  • It's not a fair comparison...a tube amp (Fender) and a transistor amp (Marshall).

    Not fain at all!

  • I have the marshall avt100 got it at a garage sale with another avt150 for only $250 but i traded the 150 for a line 6 spider now i am saving up for a fender amp i think it sounds so much better no offense to marshall but i dont excactly like the overdrive on that amp its to unclear fender all the way

  • Fender is beter in every way! Can't you here it?!

  • i love the blues junior's overdrive its very clapton like.

  • fender is better marshall has a digital sound

  • mardhall wins overdrive but the febder has a nice clean

  • fender sounds really classic in overdrive but a tad muddy, a pedal could clean that up nicely though, the marshall sounds to modern and the fender wins in clean to....and value

  • a mi siempre me gusto mas marshall.. pero en este momento se me cayo el culo! jaja..

  • marshall amp sounds little digital. fender has a amazing sound

  • fender is good at clean, and marshall is good at overdrive

  • BUT a pedal could simply change the drive

  • it just depends which one is more important to you

  • Surprisingly, the Fender wins out overall for me. On "clean" Marshall seems a bit echoe-y, while Fender is much more straight-forward. On "overdrive" is where Fender really kicks a** thought, i think... nice, dirty and rich sounding. Marshall just seems too flat on this setting in my opinion. excuse my ignorance but is the Marshall a tube amp or solid state? it seems to lack the warmth of tube amps that i've heard before. or maybe it's my crappy computer speakers. love your playing!.

  • Thanks for the detailed comments! The Marshall is a 50 watt Hybrid (Tube Preamp, Solid State Output) and the Fender is all tube...not totally a "scientific" study but it's at least a basic comparison of two amps I own!

  • @disciullo77 the fender amp is going to sound better because it all tubes.

  • @wumingtao

I agree with you I think the Fender sounds better.

The Marshall is a valvestate which is a hybrid amp. It has a tube (valve) in the pre-amp gain stage and a solid state circuit in the power amplifier section. People say they are a halfway house between Solid state and all tube amps. They do sound better than solid state amps.

  • @wumingtao fender wins clean but distorsion?come on, fender distorsion sucks big time in general, and especially next to marshall.it sound like i'm playing 100 years old casette on my 100 years old tape-player, it sonud like bassless dirty treble noise. what i'm saying it doesn't mean that this AVT has super dist but in comparison to junior, it's way better.

  • @wumingtao The Marshall's a hybrid. I never got why they make hybrids. If your going tube, go all tube!

  • i just love the sound of the overdrive channel on the marshall :)

  • whats the finish on that LP...desert burst or iced tea?

  • That's Desert Burst

  • I dig the Fender's full warmth tone. Nice on the leads too. I used to own a Marshall. It was good for heavy rock/metal. 50 watt all state. I played it against that exact Marshall in the video. Mine cut through very nicely. It had the mids I really like. If you're looking for a bluesy lead sound, I recommend Fender.

  • Thanks for the comments and additional insights!

  • how is it compared to the fender for Led Zep or AC/DC?

  • Comment removed

  • They both do sound pretty good. I just recently ordered the Blues Jr. I should have it shipped to me on the 18th. Hey, listen up guys. If you want to buy a Fender blues Jr. Listen to this, First I have go to the Bing website and then find the shopping link second search for J& R electronics. Bing gives you 5% of your money back. Trust me it works. I bought a pc last year and got back 6% of my money through the mail a real check it true I used it to buy this amp. find my next post**

  • nice tone!

  • Screw the comparison they both sound great and nice picking!!!
