  • Ants build hills, termites mounds. Our self-organized paradise, conceived in the minds of gray men, were houses upon houses, sundered from the heart of the city, as if to touch one another were a grave disease.

  • @o0xemas0o Dafuq

  • 3 arcade fire

    This song relaxes me!

    Such good vibe ;)

  • Starts as a great song, and becomes an amazing song at 3:14

  • one of the greatest things to ever come out of a guitar.

  • I get such a nostalgic feeling when I hear this song. It's like the song takes me to a different time period of my ancestors. I dunno call me weird but that's just my take on it.

  • music highly whistleable.

  • This is their best song. Amazing it is, Amazing it is!

  • i started listening to them a long time ago but i guess sometimes it just takes some time to figure out how awesome a song really is, now this is on repeat for 2 days haha

  • I still remember the first time I heard this song. The moment I heard the first couple of chords I knew that I absolutely loved it. I can't describe how immediate the affect was. It was unconditional love at first listen. That was in October of 2010, and this is still one of my favorite songs of all time.

  • @josanne510 Agree! Heard it on a video called the race and felt the same way. xx

  • @josanne510 Wow, I felt the same way. Amazing.

  • the Byrds. 60s transcendentalism.

  • Just beautiful.

  • I washing water my ATX-power.

  • I specially like the part that begins in 3:20 :D

  • A song this good only comes along every 10 years. Poignant.

  • Its funny, You could be listening to this song and thinking about the worst possible thing.. And this song turns it into something Beautiful.

Such a deep meaning to this song, Love it.. Thanks.

  • this song haunts me positivly <3 arcade fire for life

  • goosebumps

  • This song reminds me some much of my best friend a couple of years ago back in high school. We lived in these god awful suburbs in Dallas, and we thought it would be cool to grow our hair, and always tried to find something fun to do(which was hard) but sadly he joined the Army, and we lost contact, but why would canadian bands(rush and AF) hate the suburbs; all the houses look the same, all the stores are the same, all the people are the same, wait nevermind

  • @MrticTac921 Not every song on The Suburbs is anti-suburbs, and not this one. BTW I often wondered if 'you cut your hair, I never saw you again' is not a style statement but a reference to joining the army and becoming a casualty. If it is then perhaps Win is still in Neon Bible territory. Which wouldn't be a bad thing.

  • @ManinManchester Nice way of looking at it. I think it is a style statement but I also see what you mean, has made me see the song in a different way. xx

  • divinos , me fascinan !!!!!, la peculiaridad de Win me encanta!!!! esta cancion en especifico es una caricia al oido......

  • This song has messed me up... It reminds me on my past and it wakes my nostalgic side. Perfect synthesis of lyrics and melodic is so breathtaking and heart touching and AF proved again that they can touch my string and I'm thankful for that. I wish I could express my feelings to one special person through this song and hope that this song's energy and atmosphere will reach her. Thank you Arcade Fire, thank you guys for listening to good song and thank you special person for your existence.

  • I feel like crying every time I listen to this song. It truly is amazing

  • @plasticworld96 same. and l'll listen to it over again nonetheless

  • This song is universal... i'm from Colombia, i don't know what the hell a suburb looks like -except or movies-. But it simply brings me back... to somewhere...

  • this song reminds me an adorable montreal girl..

  • get high to this

  • I love the beginning of the song, don't you? Its simply great

  • Lyrical geniuses, I swear. They fill up my soul, enter my heart, and make my spirit fly.

  • I search for you in every passing car......favorite line

  • Arcade Fire is a murderer. A murderer of my writer's block. WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

  • There's nothing to do but I'll unwind when I'm with you

  • Arcade fire is the reason I live...

  • this song makes me so emotional and idk why...

  • @Mynameismeganx4 It is the minor key and the subject matter - hard not to get chills

  • This song gives me goosebumps EVERY TIME

  • 13 dislikes out of world

  • Man, I love The Smiths and Arcade Fire

  • @Mozbrada Is there a Smiths/Arcade Fire similarity that I am just not hearing, because my best mate also loves Arcade Fire and The Smiths. Personally I don't like Morrissey or the Smiths, but Arcade Fire are so awesome :P

  • @UniverseIsPacman Hahaha I see no similarities either (sound wise) other than both bands are filled with lyrical geniuses (in my opinion). They both provide meaningful worthy music to me.

  • @Mozbrada I definitely agree, I mean I wouldn't characterise The Smith's music as unmeaningful not by a long shot, I just find it irrepressibly depressing and cannot enjoy it on the whole. That having been said I do like, 'How Soon is Now' leastways I think that's the song I like, I don't listen to them very often so I may be forgetting the name tbh.

  • Damn song describing my first real relationship!! Fuck being brought back to that.. Great song however :) gonna have to find more arcade fire maybe if all the lyrics are like this. musically this song is a tad empty at times but i love the sound and stuff.

  • And I will search for you, In every passing car.....

  • google "the race" Heather Dorniden,,they used this song for that film clip.. the song and the event are very complimentery

  • .youtube watch?v=cM5A1K6TxxM

  • Such a good song.

  • Fuck this song hits hard, I have to fight back tears every time i listen to this...

  • None of their songs disappoint me. They're one of those bands were you like the whole album instead of 1 or 2 songs on it.

  • @xerothewolf i was just gonna make a coment like that. all there songs amaze me!

  • baldi

  • relaxing music arcade fire are

  • @Zacrazdon u talk like yoda haha :) but im agree

  • Such a great song about old friendships and how people change. An absolutely amazing way to express the hollow feeling that changed friends leave. xx

  • Best part is from 1:46 to 2:23

  • this song seems the 60's

  • type in "The race" and see how perfect this song fits the video

  • @normishot No.

  • @Stillwater900 "DO IT"

  • @normishot Do what

  • @Stillwater900 type in "the race" and check out the video with this song in it. DON'T make me tell you again!

  • @normishot Thanks!!! I have been searching for that video because I discovered this song on it. You're right it's just perfect for it! :-)

  • @TheFakeyCakeMaker yer very welcome it is an awesome video with a perfect song

  • Good GOD I love this band, and I NEVER like all the songs of a single band. These people deserve global attention.

  • Best song off the album... Simply amazing!

  • I'm not a fan of this band but this song is fucking epic!

  • @philosopher2king The whole album is epic !

  • As I came home from college for the summer, the skyline of St. Paul came into view right as this song climaxed.

It legitimately brought me to tears.

  • @AdmiralDonuts hehehe. Climaxed.

  • @andydrew2u The entire goal of my comment was to get someone to laugh at the word climax.

  • Beyond beautiful.. brings a smile everytime

  • 3:19 - 4:30

the reason this won album of the year

  • @sebastian15yo correction: every single note and lyric in every song on the album is why they one album of the year.

  • @sebastian15yo SO TRUE

  • @sebastian15yo I love Arcade Fire but i don't understand the term 'suburban war' they always reference to throughout the album..

  • @theocho666 I believe it's open to interpretation, but I see that section (3:19-4:30) to be that "war". The suburbs appear to be so tame, so boring, nothing rebellious. And that section (could) represent that breaking away.

  • @sebastian15yo

Yes - I would agree this was the song that won the Album of the Year.

Strangely I personally never heard this song get airplay (did anyone here this on Alternative Radio ? )

  • @windstarford Never heard it played in the UK though Ready to Start and We Used to Wait are popular on alt and occasionally the BBC. Just proves how lazy some radio DJs can be.

  • Take me out tonight

Where there's music and there's people

    And they're young and alive

    Driving in your car

I never, never want to go home

    Because I haven't got one

    Anymore

  • @CardingtonLZF I wish there was a word for when you feel this much kinship for someone you don't know

  • @PretzelsWithBrie :) I thought I was the only one that noticed the similarities

  • Comment removed

  • @CardingtonLZF theres a good cover of that song by anberlin

  • @CardingtonLZF Smiths - There's a light that never goes out ;)

  • @CardingtonLZF and if a double decker busssssssssssss

    CRASHES INTO US.

  • @CardingtonLZF To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die!

  • @CardingtonLZF i... love you

  • Love the fact that "war" in the context of a suburban semi-charmed life isn't that tragic, the themes play out with much simpler things like music choices and circles of friends and dress shirts and haircuts. This album is brilliant.

  • I wanna walk in the middle of the largest street of my city at 3 a.m. with no cars around...listening to this song.

    Or maybe The Suburbs.

  • what a strange, wonderful, inspiring arpeggio...what a beatiful song!

  • I'm kinda new to these guys but this song is great

  • @shootgoats i love you for that comment.

  • This summer I discovered how much I enjoy riding through my suburban town on my bike. This summer I also discovered the Suburbs by Arcade Fire. Combining the two is absolute perfection. Thank you Arcade Fire! :)

  • how was this not released as a single!

  • Now the cities we live in Could be distant stars And I search for you In every passing car.

  • Man it must suck to be deaf

  • who the fuck dislikes this?!?!?!

  • @adtbalt1 justin bieber fans .

  • @CptAirbus true!

  • Even if you didn't grow up in the suburbs, this is still nostalgic.

  • ARCADE FIRE! THE MOST HIGHER! SUCK ON THEM LEMONS JACK!

  • Best Band: Arcade Fire.

    Best album: Funeral.

    Best song: Suburban War.

    .Biggest fan: me.

  • I feel this song like a modern Romeo & Juliet, hear the lyrics and think about it.. :) Don't you agree?

  • this is the real shit

  • Win...shut up. You had me at that first riff. :D

  • perfect during the credits of Scenes from the Suburbs

  • I'm so happy I'm human.

  • @sora41333 This is my favourite comment of all time.

  • Sublime.

  • @777xanadu ikr

  • The suburbs is a concept album so there are a lot of songs that tie in together and stick to the overall theme.

  • @zacd14 same with funeral and neon bible

  • Can't stop listening to this! This Song is so... wow. It feels like I'm really living.

  • This song makes me feels so weird, but in a good way.

  • @AcademyAwardsPerson same here! i never really knew how to word it though.

  • Great song

  • This is just so beautiful. I remember when me and my friends were teenagers... we were sitting in a bar and one strange guy came in and told us... enjoy the times you are together, because when the high school ends you will split up and nothing will be like its now. ... he was right, the high school ends, and only nostalgy remains. It was the great times, when we were together, enjoys our music... till everyone left... greetings from slovakia !

  • This song makes me feel epic! lol

  • Just watched this video 10 times in a row...

  • This may be the best track on the album--maybe.

  • 10 people should have their youtube voting privileges revoked!

  • I'm so glad I realized this song wasn't just The Suburbs that some idiot had screwed up the name on.

  • HD video for this song on my channel with 5.1 sound, chek it out!

  • @bushgg12 I forgot to add, Let the arcade burn forever!

  • "The music divides us in to tribes. You choose your side, I'll choose my side" GOOSEBUMPS. Actually reminds of all the Gaga freaks who took the internet by storm when Arcade Fire won for best album. I'm on team music!

  • @shootgoats But it's also reminiscent of the Arcade Fire fans putting down popular music, acting as if their love of Indie music makes them better than the next person. I think Arcade Fire is consciously addressing their own fan base, subtly admonishing them for pretentiousness. Great song, by the way.

  • @pancakeofdestiny pretty hard to not be "pretentious" with all the shitty industry-fueled rap and pop out there - just saying.

  • @pancakeofdestiny well put.

  • @pancakeofdestiny

Hmmm, I was just going to post that while I love this song the "choose your side I'll choose my side" theme is pretty silly but when taken from your point of view it makes sense.

    Thumps up!

  • @pancakeofdestiny just to throw it out there, judging from their music video for the song "the suburbs" which is pretty similar (some lyrics even the same) i figured the 'sides' thing was about being one of the kids who was ignorrant to life outside the fenced in *safe* suburbs, vs. being aware of that (In the context of the video)

  • @pancakeofdestiny You sure you're not thinking of Rococo or Modern Man?

  • @pancakeofdestiny Interesting point. But you can't disagree that what Lady Gaga fans displayed afterwards was embarrassing. I'm quite open to all music - you should see my collection. Great song indeed. Cheers.

  • Let's go for a drive

    See the town tonight

There's nothing to do but I'll unwind when I'm with you

  • This is such a great song. What an incredible album the Suburbs is, but this might be my favorite song on the entire cd. Absolutely sensational song. Love the whole ending part. ALL MY OLD FRIENDS, THEY DON'T KNOW ME NOW!

  • i started hating this song at 4:47

  • This album is brilliance. I think what makes it so moving (beyond the sheer genius of the musical aspect) is the universal nostalgia that it provokes in all of us. Everyone has memories of their childhood town. Of the feelings they experienced growing up. And something about this song (and album) perfectly recreates that indescribable sense we get when we reflect on those memories.

Arcade Fire really is one of the best bands of this generation. And they've definitely become one of my favorites.

  • 3:14 its the moment.

  • thanks skateboarding finding this great band!

  • I would love to see this unstaged

  • @theluigiteam This whole album is like that. "The Suburbs" mentions "...in this suburban war" whereas this song doesn't mention the term. The songs are built off each other it's so cool.

  • 3:10 rulzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • It's so beautiful.

  • Sounds like a young David Bowie

  • 10 people are at war with selves.

  • I was hooked from the first second. I have honestly yet to find a song by them that I am not completely impressed by.

  • When humanity is gone and aliens are searching through our plastic remains, I hope they find this record.

  • @LibraHorse1 What an image that is. Aliens scrounging through our mountains of waste... fitting song, for sure...

  • When humanity is gone and aliens are searching through our plastic remains, I hope they find this video.

  • ive been living in the shadows of your song...

  • night driving + this

  • @ThyraiMedia driving in general with this song, even. It's the best

  • The best part is between 0:00 and 4:46

  • I searched for you in every passing car . . .

  • The greatest band in the world today... This album was an absolute masterpiece and this song was the best one on there!

  • theluigiteam543 it's just a motif- a recurring theme. There are musical ones on the album as well. You see it quite a lot on concept albums; Year Zero and American Idiot both have them.

  • How can one compare this masterpeace with Nickleback?

  • Arcade Fire: Could they be the first band to ever plagiarize themselves?

    "In the suburbs I

    I learned to drive

    So grab your mother's keys..."

  • @theluigiteam543 i know at first I thought it was a different version of their other song. i suppose in that right it is in a way...

  • my boyfriend loves this song and showed it to me! :)

"i search for you in every passing car"

  • I search for you in every passing car

  • Ahhh this song ♥ makes me cry every time.

  • I've tickets in hand to see them next Wednesday, and pray this will be on the setlist.

  • Now the music...divides us into tribes. You choose your side, ill choose my side.

  • they should be more famous! but no, its katy perry.

  • i fucking LOVE this album. I relate it to the bittersweet passing of my teenage years and the selling and leaving of my family home, where i grew up, in the melbourne suburbs.
