  • Nice. Chamberlain and LiftMaster are the same thing, the only difference really is a brand name and a slightly better rail on the LM units. ( LM uses a 1-pc T- rail, while the Ch uses a sectional square tube.) they are the ones to go with. Genie has drastically decreased in quality over the years. The method I use for multiple door opener wallbuttons is the closest button to you does the closes door, and vice versa. Easy to remember.

  • Do each of those door openers have their own receivers that you must synchronise each remote controller with, or is there a single receiver that controls all 3 openers only needing the remote to be synchronised to one receiver? Where's the receiver located?

  • @Lachlant1984 Each opener has its own receiver and transmitter "button" unit. They all function as independent units. The receivers are built into each unit, unlike some old garage door openers that used a separate receiver--or were retrofitted for remote operation with an external receiver.

Adding a new transmitter to one of these openers involves a "learning" process due to the rolling code system. A button on the opener body is pressed, then the remote is operated.

  • @uxwbill OK, I'm beginning to understand. So you can 'synchronise' a remote to each door opener without 'deleting' synch with the other door openers if you follow my meaning. I take it the keypad outside the garage is hard wired to the door openers.

  • @Lachlant1984 There is a 1:1 relationship between garage door openers and remotes. Each remote is assigned to just one door, unless it is a "multi-button" unit. (Then each button is assigned to just one opener.)

As for the keypad, it is wireless and can be synchronized with more than one opener. It signals the appropriate opener based on what is entered with the keypad.

  • good video. I like the laid back type of videos you make, if that makes any sense.

  • u didnt filmthe cold start i wanted to see that lol and can u sink that key pad u found in the buick toopen the garage doors if so lease make a vid on how to do that

  • @partyfriek Actually, I did. It could not be used in this video for certain reasons.

  • its nice!!!!!!! cool

  • is the transmission still pretty smooth?

  • @GS7093 If you're speaking of the Old Cold Forgotten Buick...yes, it is. The car still runs OK and drives very nicely, despite what it looks like.

  • whare are the state required electric eyes on the bottom of the door tracks that stop the door from closing if blocked it code in almost every us state.

  • @itscool1968 They are in place, right where they belong at the bottom of each doorway. Many people around here place them on the wall facing each other, and I'm not about to have that.

The pressure-based reversing system has also been calibrated for these doors, and works properly.

  • very nice and smooth door openers and good to see the buick running but what about the caddillac?????don't tell me it's been forgotten!!! I normally don't make requests but I would love to see that caddy fired up when you get a chance and a detailed walk around showing all features etc. that is if your able to..great video

  • @blazerlover25 The Cadillac is likely to stay in the garage, resting until its time for restoration comes. It won't be cheap to do it properly. I cannot speak as to how soon that will be, but I would not hold your breath.

I could certainly talk about some of the features at some point. A startup seems unlikely for now.

  • @uxwbill yeah with christmas upon us I would imagine you be busy but I am proud you got it out of the weather and where a caddillac should be..in a garage so hats off to yall for doing that..

  • Nice, should they be that slow to open and close though?

  • @MacintoshUser1986 I've never seen a fast moving Chamberlain opener.

  • I have a keychain remote just like that, except its white, and opens the 2 apartment center gates and an optional garage. Not sure if you could program that to work your doors, guess it depends on where it came from and how it is set up.

  • I've not seen many if any garage door openers that have a security alarm type keypad where you enter a code to open the doors from the outside. Can you change the code for the panel should you need to in the future? Here at the apartment where I live we have a remote controlled gate for the undercover car park and the remotes are coded, to change the code you need to flip some dip switches under the battery, do your remotes work in the same way?

  • @Lachlant1984 Yes, the codes may be freely programmed and changed. DIP switches are the old approach. They were phased out because it is easy to grab the code using a receiver and replay it later to the open the door or gate.

Today's openers use a rolling code that must be sychronized between opener and remote. The codes are not to be reused and are supposed to foil "replay" attacks. You press a button on this opener to make it listen for a new remote and then operate the remote.

  • @uxwbill I understand, and that's how most automobile security alarm keyless entry systems work too, I seem to remember reading something about that in the user's guide for a car our family used to have. The process of 'pairing' the remotes you speak of reminds me of synchronising a Nintendo Wii remote with the Wii console, but that's got nothing to do with remote controlled garage doors.

  • we have a similar system here at the house, but i don't think our keypad does the other door, or at least it's not setup for it.

  • Put a set of three doorbell buttons on each side then bring a wire between the sides, making the two buttons for each door in parallel so regardless of which side you are on you can open any of the three doors. You can also put weatherproof key switches at each door to open from outside, at the door you want open. Great when the battery in the opener is dead or you want to come in from the overhead door. Number the doors 1 2 3 and the buttons accordingly.

  • Hey now.. don't stack things on the Phaeton. It deserves better than that.

  • @BonhommeRichard91 Most of those things were on the Buick. I will put them back when it returns to the garage. The Buick has been sitting out in the rain for a few days to wash the dust off. I also need to put new sweeping compound under the Buick.

  • So are you going to connect the FOB to the garage door ?

  • @WilkinsChunilall It already is. The only problem I've noticed so far is that the buttons stick out rather far, making it all too easy to inadvertently operate a door.

  • (Cont.) I swear, he had smoke coming out of his ears and steam coming off the top of his head! He looked like he was about to explode!!! He gave both boys a swift kick to the a**, then simmered down a bit. the boys' mom hears their screams and comes out and asks whats's going on, and the boy's dad says nothing except, "Goin' to Lowe's!!!" He then got in his Silverado, drove off, and when he came back he immediately went to installing the new opener (also aniDrive) and nothing ever happened to me

  • Something like this happened to me when I was about the same age! I was hanging out with a couple of buddies at their place and they thought it was a good idea to grab on to the door and hang on as it rose up, and they had Wayne-Dalton iDrive openers... They ended up doing the same thing, burning out the opener, and when we noticed, I ran and hid but my buddy and his brother got caught in the act by their dad who's a real Mr. Handyman! Their dad got so mad, his face turned bright red (TBC above)

  • Be live it or not I have a device that can pick up the codes from your remote control I got it from a guy who made MSR skimmers . I was working for NCR and that guy actually went around and showed folks how folks get ripped off . HE was giving all the NCR guys in are area about how it was done and he gave away 1 of each at drawing . I won a garage door skimmer. I tried it just last week and it still works.

  • @ncrdisabled I don't think that device will work with this system. You could certainly grab a code, but there is a randomly selected security code sent along with each button press, same as with automotive keyless entry. Unless you were lucky enough to pick a code within the allowable margin (usually 100-200 surrounding codes), the attempt would be rejected.

Previously used codes are never supposed to be reused to thwart "capture and replay" methods...assuming it works correctly!

  • At least that Buick seems to be running better then that Pontiac I drove!

Those rolling code openers were always a PITA to program with the HomeLink feature in cars.

  • @NJRoadfan That old car does run pretty well. Despite what it looks like, it's possible to take your hands off the steering wheel at 70+ MPH and just keep going straight forward.

The interior is pretty worn, but it's still reasonably plush. It had working A/C when we got it. That leaked down a few years later.

  • Chamberlain openers are supposed to be the best I think. We have a Liftmaster (made by them) and its been great.

  • William, those opener buttons look a lot like "door bell" buttons....if and when my garage door opener fails, is it possible to use those type buttons?

  • @canadaeast In general, yes. It would be a good idea to see what voltage is across them. Newer units are usually 16 volts AC. Older ones are 24.

Any momentary contact switch would do.

  • I have replaced the little plastic gears in garage door openers before. Repair kits are available for cheap. The last kit I purchased at Sears for less than $10.00. Had all the gears and hardware included. Just to let ya know for future reference.

  • well none of em are the same hehe

  • the buick lives!!!

  • @randomrazr what about urs :P

  • @naterade21 hibernating for the winter :p

  • The garage is shaping up nicely William. I know you have a fridge in there, do you have a microwave for when you get hungry?

  • @MAG315 Sure do. It makes a cameo at the start of the video if you'd like to see it. I even set the clock! How uptown is that? ;-)

  • Idea for you, you should put a switch at each side door for all 3 doors, say if you need to do work in the far bay, and you come in the door by the main house, and the other way around to.

    Can't kill a 3800!

  • @uxwbill Makes sense, I haven't researched anything about them in a long time. Our two Genie openers are about 12 years old now and still going strong! Although a bit noisier than when new.

  • Nice equipment + very tidily fitted. What's the light for on the unit, is it a courtesy light for when the door is opened? Is there some sort of manual system to use in the event of a power failure? Do they have any sensors to prevent them closing if something/somebody is standing in the way?

  • Really nice to see that garage shaping up.. it's damned well big enough to be a near full-service shop.. :D

  • You sure you can trust a man who doesn't want to be video taped? :p

  • I don't believe it...uxwbill in 1080p??? Am I seeing this right? Very nice garage William! You've been busy!

  • @talldude123 I have a Sony HDR-HC7 camera in my arsenal. There are a few other videos that have been recorded with it...the Volvo windshield wiper video and one discussing an RCA portable TV/radio set. The only problem is one of disk space evaporating very quickly when importing the video!

I still use the DCR-TRV280 as the main camera, and likely will for as long as it works. In some ways it is the "better" camera...lower resolution, but faster autofocus and better optical zoom.

  • shounds like the buick has a kank

  • @Corvette1658 A car that old and mistreated has every right to make some odd noises. It's actually something in the belt driven accessories making that noise.

  • @uxwbill let me guess, harmonic balancer or A/C Clutch? just a guess though.. :D

  • @Sansui350A Not sure. The crank pulley/balancer is new. I'm not sure about the A/C clutch. This car had working A/C when we got it, though it has since leaked down after working fine for a few years. I really think it's either the tensioner or P/S pump making that noise.

  • @uxwbill I hope you guys do fix it someday and not scrap it, Its part of you guys and your videos and it would be great to see it going again and hopefully reach the target of 300 000m

  • You are set up sweet. That's so cool!

I'm so glad you got the MICrowave in the garage.

  • @CenTexVideo Thanks! It'll take time, but I hope to get this building set up very nicely as finances allow. In time it will be heated and hopefully air conditioned.

LOL at the microwave comment...though so far, this one is only for food.

  • When i was little, driving up to a garage well the door opened was like docking with a space station.

I was beginning to wounder about the progress of the garage.

  • @BlueFoxTV That's not a moon... ITS A FUCKING SPACE STATION... LOLS

  • Oh not again! The iOS YouTube client really needs a way to delete comments...

  • Did the openers come with key fobs so you can press the fobs and it opens the door?

  • @kbhasikevin The openers did not, though I found one in the Old Cold Forgotten Buick. It was still sealed in the packaging. Even more amazingly, it turned out to be compatible with the new openers!

  • cool you have a microwave in your shed too. :D dose it like light bulbs? my LG loves them. cool automatic doors bud sorry to say i have never liked that type of door opener but they may be batter than the plastic crap we have hear. your doors look and work nice tho. i wished i had your shed. its much nicer and bigger than my one and i live out hear.ROFLMFAO! i have a/c and more light tho. :D.

  • @V8Jagnut Indeed I do, though so far it has only been used for food. If the light bulb in that fridge burns out, I will microwave it for all to see. :-)

It seems like modern garage door openers have really fallen off in quality. These were the best I could get and the only ones not made in China. Most were light, plasticky and seemed like junk.

Heat, A/C and more lights are coming to my garage as I can afford to install them. I'm sure you know that feeling!

  • Love the doors, very smart!!! Would love to pull up in my car and have a system like that. Would of loved to see the installation but hay if the guy didnt want to be film'ed you have to respect that never mined. Can you make a video of you installing the circits please when you get round to it? Hope your well. ;-)

  • @flipflop595 I'll try to get some video of doing the wiring stuff. First I have to buy some more supplies. I have a lot of 12/2 Romex wire that I collected from people's trash. (It's hard to believe what people throw away.) I don't know if it is enough to reach all three openers.

  • Uxwbill how come you went with chain drive instead of screw drive? Cost?

  • @matthewh16 Availability. I'm not sure if anyone is still making a screw-drive opener. There really wasn't a lot of good selection. It was either Chamberlain openers (made in Mexico) or something made in China. The guy who installed them specifically told us to avoid the modern Genie openers, and those did look pretty cheap compared to anything else.

  • @uxwbill I remember the ad slogan from one screw-drive opener: "We'll screw up your garage door... and then screw it back down again."

  • they look smashing bill :-)

just a bit of wire routing and several cups of hot motivation (tea/coffee) and its ready for action :-)

  • NICE! I got a old Genie in my garage and it's never failed and it's on the 2 car garage door but we don't have one on the 1 car garage door
