Louis CK was testing out a model to see if a product was cheap enough ($5) and had no pirate restrictions (DRM). Would people buy it or steal it. If it was $500 his model would not work. Actually he made less money this way. If he went though a company, the company would charge $20 a video with copy right infringment. So fuck CK.

When a product is offered at a reasonable price people will buy it. Louis is proof of that and that as a whole people are not evil pirates wanting to steal everything not nailed down. On the other hand when record companies sell a CD for $20 with 1 good song and 10 garbage songs... yeah people aren't going to be willing to pay for that.

That's why they shut down Megaupload. It's not due to the piracy but because of the fact that they tried to launch MegaBox a service that was to bypass big music publishers and cut their deals directly with artists (artists were supposed to get 90% of the money). They were likely to succeed so the US government had to step in and protect big business again.

It megabox was going to be legit they can just do megabox2, have no stolen content and it will go fine. The conspiracy theories out there really get out of hand.

Other sites were also notorious for piracy. They allowed big files to be stored, provided high transfer and what's most important were sluggish in deleting files that violated copyright. Some of the files were hosted for more than 2 years without being deleted. So why Megaupload? To threaten owners of other file shearing sites?

From what I know of it...older folks buy on internet...while younger folks find ways around skirting the money to gain access to products or services...for free. We haven't reach PEAK internet sales-selling...but young people are crafty enough to skirt the fees.

Like saying the word processing software would put copywriters out of business. I still know very highly paid copywriters who write BS ads, etc. People thought kids would be taking over writing. But still requires senior level thinking. I know, sounds like bs, but it's true and proven. I work at top (most famous) studios, networks and ad agencies. I know this wasn't your point but just sharing that things aint always as scary limited as they seem. So agreeing with your thinking.

I can say that the networks aren't shitting quite yet. They should be, but the thing that keeps the networks running is the news. And plus they are funded and approved by the fcc. that may have been 12 days (and counting) of "instantaneous" big mullah but way over 12 years of bombing and killing in neglected bars, dealing with hecklers, lots of painful twists of life that molded LCK into the legend he is now. Not to mention that it's a real ballsy move to release a year of material without the typical safeties that are common in the recording industry. LCK is a leader in whatever he outputs, including breaking through sitcom's rigid structure with Lucky Louie.

I kinda think he got lucky, that he wasn't expecting it to go that big, but im sure a few of the people who purchased will pirate it as you stated and that income will taper off. There are a lot of factors as to why that happened, it could be a whole case study, I'm sure some big media conglomerate has people working on it already.
