  • Made in USA?

  • @Aussieisbest94 Because new Holden's aren't even Aussie anymore. They're made of American parts put together by the Chinese in a European style.

  • It didnt absorb much impact, but Im surprised there wasnt as much intrusion into the cabin.

  • those airbags looked harder than the wall itself.

  • i was t-boned in my vs on the driver door by a combo doing over 100 and only walked out with a sore head

  • Does anyone know where the current Commodore is made? Which part of Australia?

  • @suzukiaddress125 Elizabeth, South Australia. About 20 minutes from my house, lol.

  • @HollandNights yeh elizabeth adelaide sa, twenty mins from my house two....lol

  • @HollandNights thanks! I was wondering where the factory was :)

  • All that energy would chanelled into the occupants. Ouch

  • I think these were made after the safety revisions in around 1994 - Pre '94 models were given 'below average' protection for occupants. As far as I know, revisions gave 'above average' protection for occupants. BUT note!..

    1) This is a head on crash, so any impact will have a 'stable' deformation, as opposed to offset.

    2) The speed is around 30mph hence the reason why it doesn't appear to deform severely.

Its tricky but I still think that it may only score a 3 star with NCAP. ANCAP rules...

  • ...are slightly different and the speeds are greater (more realistic). These Holdens were equivalent to the Omega/Carlton/Senator cars in UK/Europe (as with all GM stock, aesthetic changes to the face and tail are used but NO changes to the chassis) and their safety was questionable then.

  • I 100% guarantee you that if this was given the NCAP treatment, the offset crash test would show a very, very poor rating.. I mean, look at the how thin the A-Pillars are.

This was a head-on at 30mph, an offset at 40mph would be brutal.

  • @TheSaintST1 not really. it was given 4 stars.

  • @SDAlsorts What year is this car?

  • @TheSaintST1 i can in some sort of ways see what you mean by this, I had a VS Commodore myself and I was only recently involved in an accident which i t boned another vehicle at 80 km/h, and i walked away with out a scratch and my car didnt have an air bag. I might be one of the lucky ones but its something tho towards the structual integrity of the car.

  • how fast was the car going in this test?

  • Holden Commodore SV = survival version :DDDDD

  • they passengers absorb most of the energy in the crash ,plus some serious whip lash, no crumple zone = lousy design

  • wtf is a holden !

  • @boxajr Not sure if you've heard of it, but there is this cool search engine called "Google" which you can use to find out heaps of stuff. It only came out about 12 years ago so you may not have heard of it. You should try it, it's amazing how easy it is to use...

  • @Rollinfourlitre i was beeing sarcastic and u r beeing a smartass wich in my book is a dumbass :) so gtfo k tks :)

  • @boxajr Can you please re-write your comment in english? I don't speak Spanish.

  • @Rollinfourlitre no ! go buy a "learn spanish" book and read it :)

  • @boxajr O podría usar Google Translate. Por favor, deje de Internet... tonto.

  • @boxajr it is a type of cheese that originates in the Republic of Uzbekistan

  • i drive this model, no airbags though, so i'm a dead man

  • @mitchp85 depends really mate, I had a VS like urs i assume and earlier this year i totalled it and walked away without a scratch, having said that tho, the car that ran the red and I ended up hitting was a small Honda Jazz lol

  • can you say massive internal injuries? if that was with humans, then the liver, spleen, and kidneys would be mush, the neck would of broken, and nasty bruising from the seatbelts. all up you look ok but your not.

  • them damn air bags hurts

  • it's opel senator

  • @mail9 it is not a opel senator mate. It is a Holden commodore. The dead give away is the name of the video clip. Another one is the shape. I believe Opel Senators have a different front.

  • @matt198619861986 ... and the big HOLDEN down the side of the car ... LOL

  • This test means nothing. The offset is the true test.

  • and how fast where they going?

  • not bad

  • @albanitikosova101 that's the worst crash test ever!

  • 40km/h. scam.

  • well, better than the old version.

  • This would be safer if the occupants wear a kevlar vest.

  • You really can't tell from the video. It looks like the dummies submarine a bit, but that rebound is otherwise well-controlled. What were the instrument readings?

  • definite 4 star result

  • @keegan47401 Airbags look stiff, and the occupants stop too fast. HIC of about 500-600, minor injury. Body holds up well. 4 star is the equivalent of a "B" grade.

    March 28, 2011 4:48 pm

  • @juice0105 you'd live with minor to moderate injury

  • them is tough airbags

  • I was cruisin along with ma misses and this bloody big test wall jumped out in front of us, thank God for those bags filled with politicians hot air

  • Holden WIN!

  • i have one of these cars, this looks good

  • What a tough bastard.

    Love aussie cars.

  • Get stuffed mate holdens are the best dog

  • That test isnt as accurate as the common crashes with the offset crash test.

  • not bad

  • I had a head on collision in a VN in 2008 but of course without the airbags and the car roof buckled so it was somewhat harder than the impact in this video.

  • are u guys serious ive been in bigger crashes in my VS commodore LMAO

  • To hell with Holden

  • its looks ok

  • i dont think this is doing the 64kph cars normally do during a crash test, this is an airbag test at lower speed. if u want to see how a holden stands up in a crash, just watch the news @ 6 every night, there are too many fatalities. holden arent really pioneers when it comes to occupant safety.

  • haha this is the same as my car. nice solid built like a tank.

  • Comment removed

  • in my mates commodore, we went straight into a pole knocked it down cos it the car was solid and didnt crumple... all 3 of us were fine....

  • LOL, 2 million people can't be wrong, ahhh, yes, they can (and in this car, are).

  • All of you might think that since the car suffered very little crumpling, it is instantly safer. It's the exact opposite, that crash would most likely have severely injured the occupants due to the sudden stop.

A successful crash test is when the engine compartment absorbs and crumples completely, without severely damaging the passenger compartment.

Extreme deceleration < Absorbing the impact

  • I'll take a car that crumples less any day. It's better for parking on college campuses where there are crazy drivers.

  • @R34RACR Bingo. Crumple zones are what save lives, but the safety cell shouldn't be damaged.

  • @R34RACR i think you should consult the engineers who designed the vs commodore before you post things

  • Most of these burnout kids no nothing about physics though.

Some don't even know that their actions have an equal negative reaction lol

  • @R34RACR that is what companies want you to think, so they can make low quality cheap cars that "can absorb the impact".

  • @aoxilus Cars have to absorb the energy from the impact; otherwise the passengers will absorb it. The energy from the crash has to go somewhere; by having crumple zones, the car slows down (instead of coming to a sudden halt), which allows for the impact energy to be reduced and mainly absorbed by the vehicle. Building a stiff car will only ensure that the car's body survives relatively well, but not the passengers. Its basic physics.

  • @Legendzzz007 yeah but there are other ways to reduce the impact like outside airbags, a better designed seats, bumpers with shocks, and might be many others. letting the costumer know that destroying the car is the only way they can be safe leads to low quality front ends in automoviles so making them cheap cos "that way they can absorb the impact" sure this is one way but there are others in which a car could be repaired is the point I am trying to state.

  • @aoxilus Yeah, I do see where you're coming from, but there are two main reasons why I believe what you're suggesting won't happen. 1) implementation of such technologies would increase the initial cost of the vehicle and 2) from the manufacturers point of view; they want people to live and to keep buying new cars. Thats why a lot of the cheap new cars we can buy now won't last as long as some of the older cars which are still running now. Its the same story with everything we buy these days.

  • @R34RACR - that true: in real life the car would be somewhat okay, but your eyes would pop out and be replaced by your kidneys

  • @R34RACR just beacuse holdens are awesom no need to diss them beacuse ford = FAIL

  • @R34RACR yeah but I'd rather hit a roo in my commo than in a hyundai or something

  • @R34RACR Rage some more faggot boy.

  • its made on lower speed to test the airbag

  • @spitty3d Yes, the car is hardly doing 40kph. Its also a flat hit, not an offset.

  • i owned a 2006 ve omega, crashed it 2 days ago doing 80kph and i walked away only shaken up. i think all commodores are great and im glad i had one when this happened.

  • actually, that's pretty good compared to the older crash test. jeez

  • GO THE COMMADORE

  • Commodores are all nothing but overrated peices of absolute CRAP!

  • Im guessing u drive something other than a commodore? I had an accident 6 years ago and i was driving a commodore and had it been a smaller car or even anything else with the exception of a luxury vehicle i wouldnt be here. And if the commodore was overated, why does it sell so well in this country? 2 million+ people cant be wrong.

  • you know whats crap the stuff in your head its filled with it.

  • gotta love the aussie commodore

  • its better than the new 1!

  • One of the best i've ever seen

  • Wow, that's one solid passenger cell! My VZ certainly feels as solid as a tank. Now I know it is. Great find, FastRolls!

  • that car wasn't a VZ, it's a VP

  • vs commodore

  • @ives2071 Nope, VR; 1993-95

  • yo im aussie and iv seen in my topgear book all are 5 star ecsept for 2 of em

  • Very Safe Car!!!!

  • Hah is that a VS model, I got that same car in white aswell 1995 model,

Drives well its done just under 300,000kms and still runs fine

  • bloody hell that was an awsome withstand

  • @2004PontiacGTO and some neck breaking wiplash

  • held up well

  • not bad for a car that was made in the middle 90's, cars made today haven't come that much further yet when you pay your green slip you are told older cars aren't AS SAFE as modern cars, this vid disproves that, insurance companies only want an excuse to charge more for CTP, mainly in NSW

  • pritty good didnt think tyhat was gonna hapen

  • would a vy commy do better than this??

  • Vs for sure.

  • pretty sure it was a vs. because of the passenger airbag

  • its a Vr or VS sedan from mid ish 90s seemed to do pretty well really. Body shell was very little changed from the VN of 88.

  • got any videos of vn commodores?

interested to see how they hold up

  • No I don't, I was lucky to even to come across this video :)

  • do you know what year that car was?

  • Im sure Vn's would be the same..
