  • Great tutorial! I'm new in Light Room 3 and this is going to be awesome in my landscape photos.. Thanks!

  • Really great work

  • the pic is crap. sorry.

  • This is a perfect tutorial ever..

  • great tips!

  • Looks so Gloomy on that photo.

  • Instead of doing that trick to show where you adjustment brushed the sky by dropping the exposure, you can just check the box below the image that says "SHOW SELECTED MASK OVERLAY" and this will do the same thing for you with having to mess with anything.

  • I love your videos Gavin! :-D Great job!

  • Oh gosh! I've been using lightroom for few months and never knw how to use that brush thing.. Thanx a lot Gavin! ;)

  • i got a question, i got a photo, the house is white, and the sky is wel, not much of a sky, like white or grayish, what should i apply on the b/w or greyscale?

  • Simple and clear, thank you very much Gavin !

  • nice work, man. Thanks for sharing.

  • awesome stuff again gavin

  • This is perhaps the best video for creating a intense and nicely dynamic B&W photo... Although I dont have Lightroom, I could apply all of those steps to Photoshop CS4 extended. Thanks, Gavin! Great job as always!

  • @3:11 You called it "this strange little shaped thing", and up until recently, I thought the same thing. It wasnt until my gf pointed out, that the 'strange little shaped thing' is actually...a paint brush... /.- (face palm)

  • Don't forget about auto mask! It would have made burning the sky a breeze around the dome of the building.

A fantastic job as always. Thanks Gavin. Cheers!!

  • how do you record the video of your computer screen? It works quite nicely.

  • PhotoGavin do u have like your own webpage???

  • One caveat needs to be addressed with this: your photo will suffer excessive pixellation when applying such dramatic changes. If you were able to zoom in on this pic after tweeking, you'd see that it looks extremely grainy.

  • thanks for this this will make my monochrme shot such more beautiful

  • excellent tutorial. thank you!

  • Hello gavin! i have a question for you, whats the difference between lightroom and photoshop!! isn't it almost the same thing? i hope you reply please

    Thanks!!!

  • Nice tutorial, bit the promissed 'masterpiece' didn't came out!

  • Another great tutorial from Mr. Hoey, something that looks time consuming, but infact is 5 minutes to create a super shot..thanks Gav

  • Gavin, top shelf work as always my friend.

I have LR3 and it's definitely a GREAT improvement since LR2 for sure. Especially the noise reduction feature it offers.

There's an idea for you for another video if you haven't done so already.

Demonstrating how to use the Luminance and Detail in LR3 to remove noise and preserve detail.

    Cheers

  • i've wanted to do that for so long...thank you so much for the effort :)

  • Gran video Gavin, saludos desde Perú .

  • Excellent..

  • Great video Gavin, really helpful tutorial.

    Many thanks

  • Cool tutorial and all but I feel you making everyone think you can take rubbish photo's and make them look good with photoshop... "polishing a turd" kind of deal

  • Great post.

  • Love it! Never thought moving the color tints could change it so drastically.

  • Excellent. I do not have Lightroom but I do have photoshop. Can this monochrome effect be achieved in Photoshop(CS4)?

  • @jahiasad Yes, all the tools used here are in Camera RAW which is part of Photoshop CS4 & CS5

  • @PhotoGavin you're my hero.. im working with a small tshirt business.. because i cant work for a company because im sick Y_Y but 99% of my knowledge about photoshop is from you! i dont know how to say but you gave light to my dark roads.. and i still love arts... this is my life.. and ur one of my motivation!

  • This is a nice image Gavin, but its not a masterpiece. Good tutorial. Best Regards

  • Another great tutorial Gavin. BTW, how did that adobe contest work out for you?

  • @shaun365 Came first, thanks to the huge support of countless people ;-)

  • Too good. Keep it up

  • I must say Photogavin produces the best tutorials in the web. You explain why we have to click here and there and that's great. Thanks a lot. You're the best Gavin :)

  • great as always!

  • hi gavin,

i was thinking about getting a grad filter but if i use this exposure brush i dont really need one right?? or is it better to blend two images with different exposures in photoshop?

    cheers 4 the uploads gavin

  • @england2345able ALWAYS better to do it in camera, but it's good to know what can be done.

  • plz more of these tutorial

  • It's probably also worth mentioning that for those that possess the newer versions of Photoshop but not lightroom, you can do all of this in pretty much the same way by using Adobe Camera Raw (that comes with PS)

  • Thanx gavin! lightroom will be my first editing software.

  • This was amazing! The before and after was incredible!!

  • this is soooooo cool!

  • Delightful . I am going to snatch up my M3 with the TX 400 already loaded a year ago and I am going to shoot a like scene with a little flash and see how close I get.

This is a wonderful device you have and your skills are wonderful. I hope you are getting paid for all this work.

  • Very nice to see you covering some lightroom material. I actually prefer lightroom for the processing of a large number of photos. You know those family days :). Keep 'm comming, although i'd love to see another of your photography tutorials. Greetings from holland.

  • love these tutorials

  • For the "final brush touch" I'd use Auto Mask feature. Of course, when you decrease the size of your brush, it will get easier. But for me the Auto Mask is the way to go ;)

P.S. I'm not telling you how you should work or anything like that, I'm just showing my workflow in LR ;)

  • Great tutorial Gavin as usual ... :)

After converting to B&W and move the sliders to a very high or very low settings that will create too much noise in the image which is sometimes not pleasing to the eye ... except if u are going after that effect ... now, I can't tell if ur image has noise in it ... but can u kindly tell me if this is the case in ur image or not ... or do u suggest using the amazing new noise reduction feature in lightroom to eliminate the noise ...

    Congrats Evangelist :)

  • What do you use to record audio/video when using the computer?

  • Did you win that contest?

  • great tut Gavin any chance to do one for PS CS5?

  • Can photoshop do this and also i can't find your tutorial on how to not get overexposed sky when using DSLR thanks!

  • you can also press "o" to see the mask overlay, change color with shift+o. I use it all the time :)

  • Im asking because i really just dont know and am curious, why would you prefer Light room over Photoshop?

  • Thank you so much, this is the look of photographs I wanted to get :)

  • Wonderful tutorial!!! I love it!

  • i like the way you say 'W' !

  • very nice, thanks

  • Thanks Gavin for the video. Could you tell me where to you get Lightroom 3?

  • @lomlloyl You can download a 30 day free trial from the Adobe website

  • @PhotoGavin Thanks so much. I will do that. Cheers!

  • More Lightroom 3 vidz please Gavin

  • [ and ] - the magic ones dedicated to resizing brush :)
