i´ve always loves the book, and while the movie takes some liberties with the storyline, the overall atmosphere and the characters are very, very well preserved. a great movie that honors the book but also stand on its own. the actors are all great, too. watch it, if you can.

I know this story from amazing Czech animated film done in 70's by Karel Zeman, which was the scariest movies of my childhood. I am so excited to see this - what a great ides to make this into a movie, does anybody know if it is available in US?

Oh my gosh! They actually made a movie out of it? :O I read this book about 10 years ago and the name Krabat has never left my mind. What an amazing story.

I'm sure others have said this but...why hasn't this movie been released overseas? An incredible book and it looks like this movie has done an incredible job. My German is sehr schlect but it seems some things (like a fleshing out of a romantic interest) have been played with and...as far as this trailer and the others online go...it all works so well. This looks fantastic!

I think it'll be released in Canada but US film distributors refused to buy such a "dark" movie in times of recession ;)

It is a total shame that US distributors are reluctant to distribute this. I think US audiences deserve a little more respect from distributors.

In the meantime...I'll be trolling the Canadian amazon website for when the film is on dvd. :)

This movie is absolutely GREAT! I saw it two weeks ago and i think every day that I want to see it again and again! Actually i did not read the book but only saw it in theatre as a play, but i think the film is that good that it can't be a complete disappointment to anyone. I hope so much that it is translated into English so everyone can watch it!

Ich mag Deutsche Filme eigentlich gar nicht, aber dieser Film hat mich wirklich zutiefst beeindruckt. Vor allem die Brutalität mit der gezeigt wird, dass diesem Mann kein Menschenleben etwas wert ist. Und die tiefe Verbindung die trotz Rivalität einander Überleben lässt. Super Film. Wirklich!

@urbandiscount It isn't for the first time. It has been adapted into legendary animated movie in 1977 by Karel Zeman. This movie is a legend and it was hole uploaded into youtube. And yes you're wright, it's a wonderful novel:)

the stunning band "polarkreis 18" have written the soundtrack to this movie. i'm not sure about this particular score in the trailer...however...there is aready a song preview from the upcoming soundtrack, called "allein allein" (see myspace).

Polarkreis 18 did not write the soundtrack for the film. They only contributed the song for the end credits. Also, the song was not written for the movie but was taken from their album to promote both the movie and the band. Unfortunately, the song does not fit at all with the movie and when I watched it in theaters in October, lots of people in the audience got angry, when that less-than-subtle ruined the mood at the end of the film.

Als ich gehört hatte das das Buch jetzt verfilmt wurde, hatte ich auch die Befürchtung, dass es so ein Mainstream-Harry-Potter-Schmar­rn werden wird. Wollen wir mal hoffen, dass die "Filmemacher" die Geschichte nicht komplett zerstört haben!

Das Buch und auch das von Preussler selbst gelesene Hörbuch sind der Hammer!!!

DEr Wird sicher voll gel!! Ich hb das Buch erst in der Schule gelesen und war überhaupt nich begeistert, weil unsere Lehererin es total doof dargestellt hat. aber danach hab ichso nochmal gelesen, ohne über jedes Kapitel einen Zeitungsbericht oder eine Zusammenfassung schreiben zu müssen und ich fins richtig geil XD.

Freu mich total auf de Film :)

ja so gings mir auch ist zwar schon ne Weile her seit wir das gelesen haben aber mal ehrlich es ist unmöglich ein Buch gut zu finden wenn man ständig irgendwelche wörter unterstreichen und blöde zusammenfassungen schreiben muss!^^aber wenn man das Buch in Ruhe lesen kann und nicht ständig unterbrechen oder stotternden Mitschülern beim Lesen zuhörn muss^^ ist es echt klasse und ich freu mich schon total auf den Film!!

Ich hab den Trailer im Fernsehen gesehen und darauf gleich das Buch gelesen.

Ich finde es total gut.

Wenn der Film nur in etwa so wird wie das Buch, obwohl man das nie miteinader vergleichen sollte oder kann, dann wird es bestimmt ein großer Erfolg
