This was a sad time to be a Kiss fan. After the disco-pop leanings of Dynasty, fans had hoped for a return to the hard rock Kiss sound, instead the band opted for another shot at bubble gum pop, the reception was lukewarm and Kiss didn't tour the album stateside, but went to Australia where fans were eager to finally see the band perform.

God, this brings me back to my teenage years, maybe 13 or so. I'm only 34 but I was a HUGE KISS fan back in the day, and I used to listen to Unmasked at the time. It's a really catchy song, i'm almost sorry to say! There were a couple of decent songs on that album believe it or not, Ace's 'Talk to me' and Gene's 'Naked City' being two. I was also so disappointed to learn that Peter didn't play on this album, but Anton Fig is a very talented drummer.

This song didn't do to well on the charts in other parts of the world. But in 1980 when this was released on the unmasked album, here in Australia Shandi was a massive hit. Then late 1980 the band toured here , down under for the first time. It was like a massive title wave, the band had never seen anything like it before it was so huge. Gene and Paul still talk about it to this day.

That the Beatles transformed rock into what it is now, IMO, isn't up for debate. They turned rock from a 3 chord doo wop rowdy saxophone into something that we recognize today. Different keys, modulating within the tune, changing times, stops and starts, and don't forget the innovative use of technology. Ever notice we don't consider them as oldies? They still sound modern after all this time.
