a part from this a lot of scenes where made with the stunt people really racing in the wangan at night like real racers and taking the risk of be in a accident or being caught by the police.
Well they are actually driving on the highways, in japan theres no licensing or regulations about filming in public so all the cars on the roads are actual civilians, but... you have to realise the cars being driven and filmed in the movie are staying well under 200kph probably more like 180kph and If you look at the history of the infamous Midnight Club, they got up to speeds of in excess of 300km/h some even hitting around 330-340, which is almost twice the speeds the stunt drivers are doing.
i know,but it still a huge infringement of the road speed and safety laws actually in footage right there.
no mater where (in jp)you cant go above 100 kph in any kind of road.
imo in the battle footage they are going around 150 kph.
midnight club...rich guys with no brain and a heavy foot.
i got here in the end of the 90s so i lost the bubble and the MC was already dispersed(some of then arrested),drift was the new wave at that time.(to do shuto kousoku the costs are obscene)

still if you pass a regular cop car running over 200 and its not a shirobyke they let you go,and try to catch you next time.the same go for the drifters,they dont want the risk of cause a accident.
the bad thing about this series aside for the talking is that Akio changes the Z for a 32GTR in the midle of the series,then it lose completely the sense.
i can see a pulsar winning on a winding race track, or a dirt road or even on a Touge but on the wangan express way?... with the technology of the mid 90's i cant see that happening... oh well its entertaining none the less
yeahh i know ,the gti r with no mods is almost 240 hp(a 325 is 300 more or less) plus 4wd ...well, was the image at the time(i might ferrari loosing to a little hot hatch)when i saw it ,that made me lol.

Uh, no, it's not a 280Z, and it's NOT a 240Z. it's a Japan Market S30 (Fairlady Z). If I recall the period literature when the movie came out in Japan (late 1980's) it was a 1975 Fairlady Z.
Lighter, better suspension, better gearing, and more options than ever possible in the North American Market. And the Fairlady Z-S...lightest of them all! This car is a Z-S, not an L-Model with electric windows and all that crap.
But even with electric windows and all the A/C a fully loaded 75 Fairlady Z will still be hundreds of pounds lighter than a US Spec Model. I know, I own one! My 75 Fairlady Z 2+2 is ligher than a US-Spec 1975 280Z Coupe!

2 revised series came after, in 98 and 2000, the 2nd series has the top secret gtr and other cars, the first series has akio and his beloved s30 racing,r32's porche 911's s130(280zx) and even z32's now im working on a new trailer and i'll post it up soon. im serious this time none of this 8 month crap. later

Shuto Kousoku aka Freeway Speedway (in U.s.) they never made a wangan midnight live action but this is the closest thing to it. however a good post, is this from episode 3 or 4?
Actually the film itself is quite boring, it's only saving grace being the beautiful cars. The films are quite old too, and nearly impossible to find. They also have very loose connections to the manga. If they make another modern WM movie, they should follow the manga story.

you can if you know where you driving,and most of the people are following the same speed.
but if you doing by yourself or in a couple of cars and you cross an undercover cop car or a shirobyke they will stop you .
you will get a 3 to 6 months hook and a 2000 to 3000 american dollars fee.

yep i made the currency check,
