well, personally i think genres are useful, so when you search for metal you don't get mariachi music. but not important to the point of arguing over :P
Heavily influenced by Death, emphazis on complex patterns, no chorus. What is wrong about calling it technical progressive death ? will you type "rock" if you're looking for a band like Meshuggah ?
I don't understand why everybody tries to over-complicate a band's "genre" with ridiculous made-up terms. You can't fit a band under the label to describe the band's sound, hacride doesn't sound like any other band it sounds like hacride. Genres are only good for generalizing what area of music that a band's sound lies in.
everything from 4:40 on is just insane (actually the whole song is)!!! and the ending is one of the best endings i've ever heard, fucking sick i tell ya SICK!!!!!!
Genres are only important for shithead "core" listeners who try to take away from the blandness of every band they listen to by attributing a different fucking genre to every band they listen to...hence we have stupid sub-genres like "post hardcore"...POST HARDCORE??!! WHAT THE FUCK!!??
@MetallicOpeth well technical death metal is a sub genre, nd its a popular one, because it does very much indeed sound different from regular death metal, also
screamo, is a sub genre which has its distinctive sounds, i dont like it all
sub genres make sense, nd make life easier for everybody, but things like post hardcore, or coremetal make no sense
@MetallicOpeth I totally agree with you, although i must admit i like some ''deathcore'' bands. Although you can filter out the un-talented kind. Dont you admit?
I can listen to this track and the Lazarus album over and over and fuckin' over again. This track is fucking amazing.. along with 'Awakening'. 4.40, 6.18, 6.54, 7.28, - each part with something different !!! \m/ oh yeah and i love the fukin scream at 8.53.
Interesting how everyone has their own favourite riff in this song - 1:45 is definitely my favourite. It's one of the heaviest moments in music- ever. And it sets in so unpredicted.
best metal albums so far this year: 1. crack the skye (mastodon) 2. lazarus (hacride) 3. wavering radiant (isis) 4. in the constellation...(anaal nathrakh) 5. cosmogenesis (obscura) 6. when death comes (artillery) 7. anno domini (riverside) 8. wrath (LoG) 9. cybion (kalisia) 10. stone's reach (belakor) joint with nostalgia (gwynbleidd)
i hate to quote internet memes too, and this time it's STFU!
obviously my list has changed since then but even this dated one is still amazing. all different "sub-genres" of metal, 7 different nationalities, all fucking quality! i'd like to see how your list compares to mine
Agreed. I started to say something about BTBAM and Baroness, but saw "3 months ago" and stopped there.
Hm. LoG seemed kinda "meh" to me, but then again I've never really liked them. I've heard Mastodon, Hacride (first album I ever bought, lol), Isis, and Riverside's... all of which were great. Should probably check out the others.
What about BTBAM, Ghost Brigade, Baroness, Redemption, Guilt Machine, Epica, and (both of) Devin Townsend's? Where would their albums would fall on your list?
havent listened to epica yet, baroness is good but i actually preferred red album, although tbh havent given blue a proper listen yet. not sure about ghost brigade, guilt machine and redemption but now that u mentioned them i may check them out
I think they're more Tech-Math-Prog-Jazz- Atmospheric-Groove-Crunch-Post-Deth- Death-Melodic-Jam-Hemiolic-Interpolative-Juxtaposed Metal if you ask me. :P Genre aguments...lol.
DUDE SCREW YOU THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY Post-Ironic Guttural Slamming Blackened Pagan Neostructualist Minimal Progressive Power Groove Sumeriancore. If you didn't know that you might as well not even call yourself a metalhead.
Well. Death Metal is about death. I dont think this band's lyrics are about death and, there isn't a growl the whole time. Definitely Progressive Metal, perhaps not Progressive Death Metal? Either way, this band is so fucking SICK!! HAIL HACRIDE!!!
This song is spiritual healing.

what a great metal year this has been so far!! and with many more great bands to come!! i struggled to make my top 5, but so far i'd say:
1. mastodon - crack the skye
2. hacride - lazarus
3. obscura - cosmogenesis
4. isis - wavering radiant
5. lamb of god - wrath
dirtyharry07 2 years ago
Yeah, I think Crack the Skye was the best so far, what a masterpiece.
