@WoulfetheRussian Trotsky believed that the social forces underlying the USSR had shifted so dramatically that the leadership of the party would only be able to represent the new bureaucracy. I think if he had taken power, he wouldn't have been able to turn the country back towards socialist ideals, not by that stage. He would have opposed taking power on the back of the Red Army - he would have argued that a power resting on military dictatorship performs a balancing act between classes.
The American Historical Review, among the oldest and most prestigious academic journals in the United States, has condemned Service’s biography of Trotsky, saying that it "fails to meet the basic standards of historical scholarship". The review has explicitly endorsed the critique of Service's book by David North, the chairman of both the Socialist Equality Party in the United States and the international editorial board of the World Socialist Web Site.
Trotsky, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Che, Castro, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh.....MASS MURDERERS ONE & ALL! They are not "heros" or "liberators" to be glamorized nor idolized!
im doing a dissertaion in school about Trotsky's role in the Civil War, its so great to read and understand history on such a level, and what a great man :D only Trotsky could spit and wrestle with his attacker after being struck with a pick axe to the head!! :L
@xoloboy Its unfortunayely not rare enough to see such historical idiocy and ignorance as your own. Trotsky did not flinch from speaking his mind, even to a capitalist ruler who offered him asylum. I guess his incisive critiques of Fascism where just a cover for secret CIA plots, eh? Go back to your basement with your conspiracy theories, loser.
Trotsky thought it correct to attack Mexico's President Lazaro Cardenas after Cardenas gave him asylum in Mexico. Cardenas who was the only Mexican President that implemented a real socialist agenda, was generous enough to allow Trotsky into Mexico. But Trotsky, who made secret alliances with the CIA. Rockefeller, Mussolini and Hitler, was far from graceful and attacked Cardenas socialist policies as burgeois acts. Trotsky was nothing more than a small and petty mouse in the house of lions.
Alexander Robinowitschs Book "The Sowjetpower the first year" are now published in German and will present by him in Berlin in the Humboldt University on the 14. of October 2010. More: world socialis web site
Trotsky's words are so clear, no mistake about them. The Red Army was turned by stalinism imto an instrument of oppression, and chauvinism replaced internationalism. It degraded so as to cause shameful wars between socialist countries like Cambodia and Vietnam. Trotsky could have used the Red Army to oust Stalin, but that was against his revolutionary PRINCIPLES, something Stalin lacked, among other things. But petty stalinists like Castaril below have the nerve to talk about "vermin".
@levdbronstein I praise Trostky for having those principles, better to die a good man then to live a long life as a traitor. Not only to your own country, Your political stand point or even your people, but in fact yourself.
Look to the right of the screen & press "more info" if you want the English translation of Trotsky's message in Russian. He was able to speak in 6 other languages from what I read about him, including English and Spanish when he was in exile in Mexico, when Soviet agents under Stalin tracked him down to find Trotsky & assassinated him in 1940. Now if Trotsky became Soviet leader instead of Stalin, the course of world history would be very different from how it's been in the 20th century. +
