English has evolved into the World's Second language mainly because of the empires of the British and the US. Those of us who speak it as our First often don't need to learn another language, except out of necessity. I know a bit of Spanish due to the high level of Mexicans where I'm from.

Mind you, I believe everyone should learn a second language if they get the chance. It's actually quite a lot of fun, and it opens up a lot of doors. Not everyone speaks english, and foreign literature is usually much better in the original language.
