Burlesque is all about a NATURAL flow of movement; about REAL sensuality, and not learned steps that you perform with no heart. If your movements aren't ALWAYS naturally flowing and beautiful, trying to come across that way on stage will just look fake and unprofessional. Okay? Okay.
Okay, a few things: First, don't ever make a video saying "this is how do perform like such-and-such". No one can perform like Dita apart from Dita; you just set yourself up for comparison and the whole point is to find your OWN style. Secondly, if you've never done something before, DON'T MAKE A TUTORIAL. You can't teach other people something that you don't know how to do yourself. Third: lose the horrible shoes and the unflattering outfit. And, last but not least:
I read the comment a little further down by the girl actually in the video. I do think some of the comments are harsh but she admits she has never done burlesque before, which is a poor decision on the people who made the video in the first place. So if I'm bashing anyone its them not the girl in the video.

This isn't very good as a tutorial..I would have liked to see it (much) longer and maybe as a basic showing of the most common moves step by step and then out into a routine in the end. The chair is incredibly un-glamorous and so is her outfit...all I can look at is those horrible shoes.

I think this girl is doing a fine job of showing a little free mini-class. But to actually dance like Dita, you don't just have to learn burlesque, but an entire life of ballet training as well. Without dance technique, you will never be as good as Dita.

This is ridiculas. Way to use Dita's name to get your shitty video seen. Anyone can do what she just did, it doesnt make her good. Actually, I think she kind of sucks. Her $10 corset is a joke, her skirt isnt even remeniscent of burlesque and her cheap grey tights have a hole in them! Not to mention her hair looks like crap...

It really annoys me when people glamourise burlesque but somehow think it's a cut above a stripper doing a poledance routine. American burlesque which is what this kind of burlesque is was what stripping evolved from! American burlesque involved stripping too it's just done in different outfits now.

1st,she's sexy. the bit of chair dance is sexy. if put into an actual routine, it'd be fabulous. also, what's more provocative than a crotch hole?! not everyone has the $ to outfit like dita (w/ her gaultier & westwood). part of the beauty of burlesque is that it's lowbrow (that's not to say it doesn't take talent), and accessible. rich girls, poor girls, and boys can all do it, and THIS girl's doin' it. Burlesque isn't so much about WHAT a girl wears, as it is about HOW she TAKES IT OFF.

@denniscass Sure, all performers ought to seek to create a personalized stage persona, but i think Dita Von Teese's name has become synonymous with "burlesque" (neo-burlesque) in mainstream culture, since she was one of the women considered responsible for bringing it back. so when this woman says she's teaching you "how to dance like Dita," i think she means "how to burlesque". Also, let's be honest, Dita isn't doing anything new. Her aesthetic and moves owe to an era already come & gone.

Yeah as a burlesque dancer myself I've noticed ALOT of hate in general in the scene...catty girls talking shit to make themselves feel better...yeah I wasn't really all into this video but whatever...and yes its true not everybody has the disposable income to afford versatile fashions corsets and Morgana Femme coture....(even though I myself wouldn't be caught dead in Leg Avenue)

This isn't very good as a tutorial..I would have liked to see it (much) longer and maybe as a basic showing of the most common moves step by step and then out into a routine in the end. The chair is incredibly un-glamorous and so is her outfit...all I can look at is those horrible shoes.

It´s the advice Dita herself gives on burlesque dance. And that might seem obvious but it´s not: when you´re having a good time you send a message to your own body which will make it move in a way that the dancing will look natural, transmitting that energy to the audience.
