  • Please, who can tell us where is the Great George Jones now? What news about him?. Ernest Tchitembo from New York.

  • @SuperErnest1953 I saw him in concert in November. He is still touring but he was having some vocal trouble that night but he still did a good show

  • @SuperErnest1953 He's still going strong. Still touring, even in his 80s. Saw him awhile back at Indian Ranch in Webster, MA.

  • george jones-good year for the roses,gijoe989.

  • This is one my very, very, very favorite songs by my favorite singer. Amazes me every time...

  • Who says George is whiney? I'll kick the shit out of them with my boots! He's the best.

  • Has there ever, in the history of recorded music, been a singer whose performance had as much emotional impact on the listener as this guy? Ronnie Prophet had it right ,Jones is too much.

  • Simply Awesome

  • I hope to see a film made about his life, sometime in the future. I think it would be a good part for actor Jim Carey to play. Start the film out with Jim sporting a flat top haircut , and then progress from there. I believe Jim would be capable of capturing some of the more COLORFUL moments concerning George Jones life time. NOW....... Who could play Tammy ?

  • LeAnn Rimes

  • This song makes me sad. how could you leave the possum.

  • @trackstaar "This song makes me sad"

The mark of the truly great country song. The type of song that when you hear it it makes your heart physically ache. Songs like this one and "He Stopped Loving Her Today" have that quality.

  • truly one of his best awesome get chills

  • this version is just fricking awesome george still rules!

  • Time for your lobotomy Stephen ... now, walk this way quietly ... we have a nice room and some cookies for you ...

  • I honestly prefer Costello's version ... don't hate me!

  • @StephenPring Lmao!! Even Costello would say ur insane!!!

  • @StephenPring We don't hate you Stephen. We're worried about you though...we want to see you get the help you need.

  • one of the greatest songs.

  • Perfection.................seamless perfection.

  • Best song in the world by the best singer in the world. I love you George (Possum) Jones, more than life!

  • Man, that stuff just hits you way down in the soul!

  • Look up Country Music in the dictionary, if this man's picture isn't there, throw the dictionary away!

  • Country music at it's best.Thank you

  • the greatest country music singer of all time. god bless tommy patterson

  • there is nothing on current country radio that could even compare to this kind of country music. What a great song with great lyrics.

  • I just love this man's voice.

  • Only a very few could sing a song about loss and regret better than George Jones.

  • You know, lots of people don't like George because his voice is "whiney", but that is just George Jones!! That is his signature!! Its just pure and simple old fashioned country music...(the best)

  • @birdsbluegrass

u got it his voice is one in a million pity no one does these days

  • You know, lots of people can't stand George because of his "whiney" voice...but I

ll tell you, that is George Jones! That is his signature! PURE COUNTRY!!!

  • awwwwesome

  • who couldnt like this ?

  • you know, ive always thought records song a heck of alot better than cd's. anyone else?

  • @jhonwayne52 records just have that sound to them dont they :)

  • @jhonwayne52 yup i sure do to records do sound better

  • thanx i have trying 2 find this song 4 ever,i love this song.

  • love this song!!

  • without a doubt,my favorite Jones song.

  • i've spent lots of days and nights throughout the years listening to george'' possum'' jones.i wish that we still had this kind of music on the stereo EVERYDAY, ALL DAY LONG.!! i love this now as much as ever!!!!!!!love you george, always, susie.

  • I knew the Elvis Costello version. And absolutely loved it. A big part of that because of the lyrics. Hmmmm, maybe there's more to country music than I thought

  • not to many people can sing and make you feel there sorrow now thats country

  • @cmanmolitor you are 100% right thats why classic country is timeless.

  • what?.....Oh my most humble opinion you ask ..............well of course "The Best!

  • I remember as a teenager sitting in truck stops and listenin' to this on the juke boxes. I always liked George but this one showed "He made the trip"!

Another example of "What would nashville have done without TEXAS MUSICIANS"!

  • A LEGEND!

  • i dont know why kids of my age dont listen to this kind of music... i think it has alot to do with how you are when your grown up, maybe thats whats wrong with todays world, i remember my grandpa listening to this song, and i thought about what he was saying, it finally makes sense to me! R.I.P. grandpa i love you

  • this keeps country alive

  • He kinda looks like Jim Carrey when he was younger. I could almost see Jim play him in a movie.

  • You should be in casting...Jim Carrey is an inspired choice...Well spotted squire...And Jim could play him well methinks...Underated for playing the fool too often

  • George Jones = Country Music

  • No offense, but I think Elvis Costello sang this one a lot better. A whole lot.

  • Mr Costello's version is beautiful, but I think is a touch more passion in George's delivery...It's a gorgeous song anyhow...The work of a country genious

  • @windowdresser2

Yeah, matter of taste. I think it's the other way round.

I normally hate country, but some songs are rather good.

    Like Desperado by the Eagles.

  • @johnlivia6061 Yep John...The Eagles had some fine moments and Joe Walsh solo ain't too shoddy...Rocky Mountain Way fellah

  • You get the idea that George lived that song before he sang it. And he did a great version with Lorrie Morgan, I think.

  • @windowdresser2

Costello's version was basically a tribute to Jones.

And I think Costello succeeded in reviving the song--and bringing new attention to the Jones recording!

  • @highnrising Yeah...Costello was certainly acknowledging the greatness of the Jones original...It is a magnificent and moving song...Take care mate and keep enjoying beautiful music

  • @johnlivia6061 No offense, but after hearing both versions I disagree with you. A whole lot.

  • Uh, John Lennon and Michael Jackson? You lost me.

  • @Raughwe Nothing was meant, except Country music isn't what it was when this was recorded and is hiding in Bluegrass.

The reference to M. Jackson was only a comparison to the "death" of certain genres. Certainly not to compare Mr Jones personally to anyone. Please reread my post (or not) I meant no harm to anyone.

  • what happened to legendary country music like this?

  • @fischermorphy

    nashville killed it

  • @fischermorphy It died :(

  • @fischermorphy the suits took over again.

  • Thanks for sharing this tube

    Cheers from Belgium

    Eric - Studio ChinChan

  • Cannot get enough of this song. Jee Whiz. I'll take an 80 year old No-Show Jones over ANY new 'country' artist. George is a man. I love your music so, George. God bless you.

  • country music has lost its soul

  • I think it hit country music the worst. But rock music and even pop, has lost its soul as well. It's just sad that MTV and CMT now decide what is "good."

  • good Kentucky Bourbon

  • I'm just 40 years old, but damn, this is one Hell of a song. I can listen to this all day long. Thanks for posting this. It is very much appreciated.

  • I'm a Londoner, and it doesn't matter where you are, this is classic. Try listening to the Elvis Costello version. Englands finest doing better than George Jones. It may sound like sacrelige, and I don't want to insult, but.....

  • I appreciate that you love the song, but Costello is not even on the same planet as George. George Jones is one of the last, greatest singers still with us.

  • Ha Ha. Think you have him mixed up with "MJ". Jones liked adult, female human 'gina. Not bad though!

  • @ootahee I don't think he is.....but you may know more than I do about him.

  • I stand corrected. Thank you.

  • Obviously you had made your post after having a few too many pints at the local pub, mate. Either that or you have a tin ear.

  • Uh oh. I think I need to keep an ear out for the good ole boys drivin their pickups past Big Ben. Hang on....whats that in the background?... Oh shit, Duelling Banjos. Quick, call my unarmed policeman to protect me with his his most potent weapon. A patronising english tone of voice.

  • omg! there is nothing like the original i can't believe it what a wonderful song from the king of c&w he is truly the best of best going on 60 years GEORGE!

  • The very best of country music.

  • ahh good old country music. don't get much better than this

  • This is my favorite CW song of this era. The lyrics and the images they provoke are profound. The man is looking at the wreckage of his life and suddenly everything he valued is now meaningless. Dang! People who say CW is for hicks aren't listening. Plus, the overall arrangement, use of the pedal steel, backup singers, is very sophisticated and powerful.

  • One of the best from the best.

  • George Jones' singing is like good bourbon. That kind of talent has to be grown.

  • Goerge has so many classics, however it's easy for me to pick this as my favorite. Thank you Goerge for the years of memories.

  • roy acuff should not be considered classic country,he is bluegrass

  • Roy Acuff bluegrass? No he defimnitely isn't. You have got that one wrong, although he has sometimes been associated with bluegrass musicians.

  • i dont want to start any thing, but if you think back the Great Roy Acuff WAS Bluegrass for the most part . his style was strings mostly

  • Yes this is one of his best

  • Simply the greatest country singer of all time.

  • One of his most powerful and heartfelt songs - and my favourite. George Jones coming to Ottawa in October and I hope to be there.

  • I used to have that Musicor single as a kid & liked its flipside "Let A Little Loving Come In." Years later I remembered the A side when I heard the Elvis Costello version.

  • Truly one of the Possum's best. It's a shame he doesn't do this in his live shows. I guess there's just so many classics from 55 years of great music.

  • @bobluman Actually, he did this song when I saw him in August at Indian Ranch. It was a pleasant surprise. You're right - one of his best.

  • @bobluman all the good singers died...and the wannabe's came along

  • @bobluman i wonder that about this, still doing time, and some others. he did this a couple times with alan jackson tho

  • I liked that drawing of George on the time life cover. Great song, from the Great Man himself. Long live the King of Country.

  • With respect I understand your point and do agree with you about George. The man is one of the finest singers I've ever heard and much better than Roy Acuff . But the title "King of Country Music" belongs to Mr. Acuff. This isn't my my opinion it's his actual title.

  • Mr Acuff"s title of " king of country music " is not becuse of his Music, it"s because of his association with the Grand Ole Opry , and what he did for Country Music,, now i know this wont put this to rest

  • And, as Johnny Cash said, "Roy Acuff will whoop your ass".

  • Great song. Thanks for posting.

    Best Wishes

  • love this song!

  • I heard this song for the first time at the age of 12 and it was 25 year old at that time. To this day it is one of my favorite songs

  • I saw George and Tammy Together in 1974.This in Bartow,Fl. civic center they were doing a benefit.Great show!!

  • Great song so many memories thanks for posting..Dave
