no , the book and the writing are thin, kunstler is a clown who read a few book and became a mouth piece for peak oil. this book is not a classic, its not on par with Huxley or Orwell and is not related to them in subject .this is post apocalyptic pulp . aint nothing wrong with that but theirs better stuff out there .
This is my first exposure to Kunstler. I agree that this novel is very important. I loved it. I've begun thinking about things I'd never considered because of it.
Kunstler is awesome, a soothsayer, and one of my favorite commentators (and podcasters, and speakers...)
But "World Made by Hand" is really not very good, as fiction goes. Give JHK a year, and he'll admit to it. His paintings do a better job telling stories. Walker Percy's works (much) better complement Kunstler's right-on apocalyptic scenarios.
I loved it too...but what killed Minor and Karp. I love this aspect because it remains a mystery to me. Karp is an interesting character and not a total bad guy. I see much of myself in Minor when I was young. I loved to read the novel.
Yea I still I have no idea what killed the two of them. They have the exact same injuries and it sounded like Kunstler was trying to add some kind of supernatural element to the story as it was ending. This isn't like Kunstler to do this though. I think the message he was trying to convey is how appearances can be deceiving.
J.H. Kunstler is a complete hack... Hyper-religious, misogynist hack.

@UrbanTurtleFarm Which explains why he's agnostic and speaks highly of women (and women's rights) on his podcast.
