  • I know what you mean about impulse buying!

I like the idea, and the safety and peace of mind it gives you in trusting the application, like the Ubuntu software center. But I wonder what it's like trying to carry your apps over to a new computer. That's my concern.

I wonder if Windows will adopt a 'store'.

  • PS: Fuck apple, the only thing they have ever made that is actually worth buying is the ipod, end of story. Also, fuck the app store, jailbreak ftw.

  • Eventually, this giant cock is penetrating your grey matter, and you begin to lose control of your motor skills. That's when the giant cock slaps you across the cheek, causing you to fall out of your chair. Unable to move at your most vulnerable, the giant cock finally lodges itself in your anus, where it rests uncomortably for 4, maybe 5 hours. That's what using MAC OS X is like.

  • Imagine a giant cock flying towards your mouth, and there's nothing you can do about it. And you're like "Oh man, i'm gonna have to suck this thing" and you brace yourself to suck this giant cock, But then. at the last moment, it changes trajectory and hits you in the eye. You think to yourself "Well, atleast I got out of the way", But then the giant cock rears back and stabs you in the eye again, and again, and again.

  • its halarious that you pay like 1200 bucks for mac and they just came out with a app store for there computers, and then you look at linux and theres been one on linux since linux has been around. AND ITS FREEE!!!! wow! and one more thing... your a fag!

  • its halarious that you pay like 1200 bucks for mac and they just came out with a app store for there computers, and then you look at linux and theres been one on linux since linux has been around. AND ITS FREEE!!!! wow!

  • lol what are you advertising for apple or something? WOAH, LOOK AT HOW FAST THIS APP GOES!!!! no SHIT, it was designed for iPod Touch and iPhone before the A4 chip was even in them, and you've got, what, an i7 in that thing? Really? Come on man. if the app is nice then say it's nice, but don't bullshit us with how amazingly fast this shit is.

  • loving the app store on my hackintosh!!! apple is the bomb and if i was rich enough i would buy one for sure!!!

  • windows appstore, fuck you we've had steam for ages

  • @nik6069 Steam caters GAMES! Not Applications.

  • @asiandawn69 Windows is a gaming operating system largely, but yeah no app store yet.

  • @nik6069 steam is for games not porgrams

  • 13:35

I went back. Got myself a netbook (gasp!) with Ubuntu and it's had an proper desktop app store since early 2009. Lovin' it.

  • Indeed. This is the way of the future. Will i get a mac for this? No. Its still just another way of buying or installing apps, and it wouldnt have a big impact on the way i use my computer.

  • aperture 3 is only 39 pounds i the uk yet the box is like 169

  • I wish they placed the apps from the store on your desktop with lots of cool features how you want them to be placed. Either you can hide them or keep the on a desktop book shelf.

  • I would love to see a black aluminum Macbook Pro

  • do you even have a mac?

  • what if you get hacked and you loose all the apps you have bought ?

  • i want a mac now just to play angry birds and cut the rope on a bigger screen. But i heard that angry bird might be going to be available in ubuntu linux software store in the furture

  • iCondom. Keeps your children magical and revolutionary. --)) out comes Harry Potter

  • @Aztianphotography These problems you have, more than likely are problems caused by you.

Good for those people who buy a new Mac, but those who already own one have to download and install like everything else.

Both Steam and the app store function the same way, their content are different due to the people who own the systems. You click on buy on both systems, it will download and install automatically.

Why cant you see the obvious?

  • @kaosum2

i wonder if steam will go in this direction too; u know, selling software too. But I agree with you, the app store is not ground-breaking or anything. The apps are a waste of money too except for photoshop and the big programs. But playing games like angry birds on a laptop is just dumb; play a real game like bioshock 2. xD

  • @jeffreysyang Valve sees no point in selling software titles such as MS Office or Autocad. Valve is a gaming company, wouldnt make any sense in selling business oriented titles.

  • 1. there are already digital distribution systems that offer many different kinds of software. Not new. 2. You do not need to be a geek to use them, as you said geeks are the minority yet online sales and digital distribution systems are already used by hundreds of millions and are not marketed to niche crowds. 3. Paypal is only 1 option, others include credit cards and other digital payment services, the exact same ones that are going to be used by the app store, NOTHING NEW... Ur retarded

  • @Aztianphotography I know noone is going to buy a mac to upgrade it... That was the point I made lol... You insuiated that this mac app store is better cause you dont have to install it, but the fact is you do install it, and you arent going to be able to not install it untill you drop that next $1000+.. So the ridiculous claim you made of this store somehow being better then steam, because one has to install steam, is completely retarded. THAT was the point. L2 Remember what you said.

  • Me I would rather use Steam for games screw the app store for games Steam is so much better.

  • @FlareOfDawn no what i mean is there is lOADS of software not on there that needs to be

  • @Aztianphotography Once again, the new offering from apple is nothing new, so stop trying delude yourself into thinking its a major leap in the distribution of digital content... Its basically a website with a login and a bunch of download links.. Get over your ifetish for everything apple.

  • @Aztianphotography News flash, noone is going to buy a new mac to avoid installing 10.6.6 lol, thats the most retarded point ive ever read. And in steam, you click buy, the game is added to your "Library" and begins to download the data automaticaly, the moment the download is finished your rdy to play, no need to run any installers.. Steam wins, despite it really being a game specific platform and the apple app store being a distribution platform for other software..

  • @Aztianphotography "there allot of times where u have to do stuff to install the staem"

What does that even mean? Its very easy to install Steam, I do not know what this "stuff" you is, you download the installer, and install. Just like every damn software you have downloaded in the past. You had to do the same thing (download 10.6.6) to get the mac app store installed.

And like I said before, Steam is owned by Valve, why would they care to sell things like MS Office?

  • What?? macs are bad????

  • What?? macs are bad

  • @cameronscott1989 Well, you obviously haven't used it very long if you didn't notice that steam "installs the app for you , it stores the app for you , it updates for you".

Besides, all of this is irrelevant! Steam & the Mac App Store are two completely different things. Steam is a gaming community/store, & the Mac app Store is an application manager. Neither of them are trying to compete against each other, & I find it rather confusing that you are trying to create competition out of this...

  • Hmm buy shitty 2d games from the mac store for 50 bucks, or buy those shite 2d games on steam for 2.50 each... Hmm... On steam, if your paying 50plus bucks for a game its going to be from a AAA dev and a NEW title, full 3d, online multiplayer etc. A real computer game.

  • Is it not like a huge repository then, like linux users have been using for years, you should check out on a debian or ubuntu box and app called Synaptic, which does pretty much the same thing as the app store

  • Call of duty 4 is in the app store!!!

  • The developers are making more money than they ever did outside the app store.

  • Good to see you back Eric, i also enjoy the Mac App Store. Really easy to use and i like the fact i can browse 1 app to find others instead of opening the browser and visiting the website. I think this could really be a big thing by next year. Maybe we will even see Final cut and Logic on here one day?

  • As soon as I can get a used MacBook, that's the first thing I'M GONNA GET!

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dumbass hillbillies (applesoldier) + Computers = FAIL. Get off your Mac and go back to your tractor, you prick.

  • @lenoat702 Really? I have never had that problem.

  • @ACDCnLedZeppelin wow, you're lucky. I always have the same problem

  • I remember kids pix in kindergarten and first grade it was so fun

  • I don't see the app store as anything "new" it's just like Cnet or Softpedia the only difference is that when you buy with in the app store it keeps your history of bought items which I will say is helpful if you lost the email of your product key.

  • @ACDCnLedZeppelin I fucking hate cnet and softpedia because you try to download some fucking program and theres all these links telling you to scan your computer for errors and shit.

  • if you buy angry birds on your iphone/ipad, do you have to buy it again on your mac??

  • I don't criticise apple for having add this app store in their OS, I know it is a convenient way to manage installed applications. I just found it ammusing how in general people talk like this was something extraordinary. Anyway does that app store manage all app instalations like the ubuntu software center does with all .deb files?

  • I don't really see the significance of the app store... Its nice that you can buy anything right in the program, but is not ground breaking. And for someone who torrents, there is no need for this.

  • The store looks so sweet, but I don't really think it's useful. Almost no free apps, and I don't spend money on small apps, I buy the big programs I need (reason 5, Logic Pro, traktor scratch pro etc..) but not those small programs.

And btw, for most of those apps u can find a program online which does the same thing, and is free.

  • Where do you get those wallpapers?

  • Oh and are you seriously saying it is better than steam because the downloads finishes quicker? There is a huge difference between downloading a ~5MB fartapp and downloading a ~4GB game.

  • Why would I buy a 2000 dollars machine (which is inferior to the 700 dollar computer I have now) just so that I can play games like angry birds on my computer? All the stuff in the store is already available on other websites, and you will support the developers more by buying the product directly from them (since Apple takes a small amount of money for each app bought in the appstore).

  • The Mac app store looks awesome i wish i had a Mac :(

  • im sorry, but there's barley anything on it! :( all crap apps most of them

  • @DarkRavenHackers they said the something about the ios app store and itunes at first

  • @AppleSoldier WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE VERIZON IPHONE

  • @DarkRavenHackers Heeeeeey, Pixelmator is an excellent app. :P

  • @sc0pl355 nahhh, when u've got aperture, CS5 etc, u don't need it :L

  • @sc0pl355 None of those things cost less than $50

  • This is an amazing feature for Mac users compare to windows :)

  • I find so many rich applications on Mac App Store...

  • @renegade8164

You've been able to buy software through Microsoft on Windows for a long time now. The only difference is that Apple made it as a separate applications (instead of in your browser).

  • @renegade8164 One thing that you have to remember is that the people at the EU or idiots. Microsoft can't add these features because otherwise the EU will get their panties in a bunch & try to start a whole thing out of it. this is how it will play out!

    .

Microsoft: We have just introduced a new software store.

EU: Microsoft is abusing their monopoly to unfairly compete against other software distributors.

Microsoft gets big fine & their all like WTF IS THIS SHIT!

    .

    Or something like that.

  • can we expect more app gallery type vids lol? :]

even easier to record with screenflow I imagine now a lot of the apps are on the mac.

  • Ubuntu (and many other linux distros, I'm sure) have had this for years.

  • @Aztianphotography Explain how the mac app store is different from Steam. From what I have seen of it, they both work the same way, the UIs are a bit different, but work the same way. Newest apps or recommended apps on the main page, then it goes down to the actual page of the app, where you then download. Both have a search.

  • I've gone back to windows for running my business, for my most portable laptop. I need a great way to switch windows (ie the task bar), good ftp and a version of dreamweaver that works. Until mac gets a task bar I can't be as productive if I need to switch windows quickly. The way mac implements switching is frustrating but it's getting there. Other then that my mac is best for photo and video editing. Nothing compares to shake and FCS

  • @HolidayNova What is wrong with

    command-tab

    command-`

on the Mac? The first switches apps, the second switches windows within an app.

  • @myiphoneadventure I use those all the time but to clear my screen windows m, to see what windows I have open after I minimise.. it's annoying to have to wait for it to expose, the multi screen is excellent but just needs a task bar.. why can't they give that option and for productivity, I need speed, I like to turn off most of the windows extra pretty features. Right now I would say both OS's are on par, but I think mac has the stronger direction especially with the app store :)

  • I wanted Kid pix for the nostalgia because I used it in elementary school way back in the day. Way too expensive so I wont buy it maybe a torrent lol.

  • Glad you are back!

  • Nice vid. I was actually kinda disappointed that the app store was missing more serious applications like Photoshop, Autocad, Dreamweaver, ScreenFlow, MS Office, etc. On the flip side, I was thrilled to see SketchBook Pro for half price; bought that one without a seconds thought. BTW, welcome back to youtube-land.

  • @cameronscott1989 Tomorrow I will not give 2 shits about this conversation.

  • @cameronscott1989 What makes you think I dont own a Mac?

  • @cameronscott1989 Apparently you did not do your search enough to know that steam does everything the app store does. Just because Steam excludes certain genres of software titles doesnt mean its less functional than the mac app store. Valve is a gaming company, why would they even bother selling Microsoft Word or other software titles that are not games?

  • @applesoldier hey man, where did you get you wallapaper? I'm really diggin it.

  • @cameronscott1989 Didnt know asking if you were that retarded was the same as me calling you retarded.

Seriously why dont you actually do some research as to what something can do before spewing misinformation.

  • @cameronscott1989 The steam client installs the game for you , it stores the game for you , it updates the game for you...

something tells me you have never tried steam, or ubuntu for that matter. This is another case of apple making something that has already been done 100 times already, and all you fan boys are all like "OMG apple have invented this their so grate lololololololol".

Then you will go on interweb crusades saying "OMG (pre dating program here) copied apple FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! ..."

  • @djAMPxp18 NASA wasn't the first organization to put a man into space.

  • @cameronscott1989 LMAO, I can buy games from Steam, download games from Steam, Steam auto updates my games, I also have the functionality of sending free gifts across Steam, chatting with people on Steam.

An application is an application, doesnt matter if its games, dev tools, education, entertainment, etc. In the end, its all computer code running to do a certain task.

    Are you seriously that retarded?

  • I have to admit. There is one great positive for the developers, which I have saying how bad it was for them, they get great free advertisement.

    That stated.

emeek admits he is "releaved " that it's a separate app ... lol ... iTunes bloat.

Angry Birds is free. Android Market.

  • apple actually took aperture off the shelves cause its much cheep on the app store. $199 vs $79? lol

  • do a vid on iphone verizon

  • what does it say on your shirt

  • iTunes is insanely blotted as it is. Apple needs to at least separate the movies and app sections into their own apps to stop iTunes from waisting resources when all you want to do is listen to music. Hopefully they will do that when Lion comes out.

  • @cameronscott1989 The idea behind both are the same, the UI is completely different, thats the thing Apple fanboys are concentrating on, how it looks rather than the functionality behind it.

  • I love how cheep Pixelmator is right now, £18 for an really useful image editor? Bargain I say.

  • miss you much dude! long time ago!

  • @cameronscott1989 A whole 5.2 seconds? My god, thats lightning fast, I'm going to get a Mac right away!

Solitaire takes 0.1 seconds to start on my Windows 7 machine. YOU SHOULD GET A WINDOWS MAN!

  • @DigitalGamma Dont forget, solitaire comes installed on all versions of Windows, apparently you dont get that option on a Mac, hence having to get it from the app store.

  • @DigitalGamma Dude i run the app store on my i5 2.66 iMac and on my 1.4 Ghz macbook air and they are equally fast, so no its not the computer, its the app store... so yea IT IS FAST!!!!!!

  • @katpis

Its a web based page, CPU power has nothing to do with it I imagine, its likely connection speed.

  • This guy is awesome, i love his redneckness, you rule!!! love your apple vids, please make more dude!!!

  • Awesome Vid man!!!!

  • linux software center = 100000000 times better

  • Lol, that's the only thing about people are talking about on the app store. GAMES! GAMES! GAMES!

You macfags are beyond ridiculous, you used to constantly bash windows users for playing "childish" games. But as soon as steam and the app store came you start raving about them.

All I can say is enjoy your poor selection of games and applications while I'm over here enjoying everything. Also apple needs to get off their ass and stop using outdated versions of opengl.

  • cool vid

  • kinda pissed there is no logic or final cut on it

  • You jus no windows will copy this

  • @PatrickWillShowYou

Copy what? Buying apps online through a store? Considering that it existed in steam before the app store was even an idea. Yeah I don't think you can really claim its a copy. Having purchasable and downloadable content is not an original idea in the slightest.

  • @PatrickWillShowYou

Microsoft already had a downloadable store before apple.

    Microsoft:

The marketplace client was officially released on December 4, 2009

Apple: The platform was announced on October 20, 2010

  • @PatrickWillShowYou Like how Apple copied all the Linux distros with this idea? Did you know Microsoft announced an app store as well, months before Apple did.

  • @PatrickWillShowYou what exactly are they gonna copy. i mean, its not like any new ideas have been anounced lately anyway

  • @sbvikings30 ah windows always copy's apple. lol, u must be a windows man :P im both btw, bt mor mac dan windows

  • @PatrickWillShowYou nahh im the complete opposite. i own a macpro, macbook 17" and a 27" imac, but however i have a custom gaming pc, and an evo 4g. I diversify

  • @PatrickWillShowYou

It is unfortunate because most windows power users want to avoid this shit like the plague.

  • Stop bullshitting on how fast it is. For fucks sake you have a Mac Pro. I can make a comment on how fast my video renders on my i7. But that's because my processor is good, not neccessarily the application.

  • @DigitalGamma he is on a i7 imac dumbass, his macpro is file storage/render server. actually watch his videos.

  • @techhelper1 Oh forgive me, still an i7 is damn fast, it's not like he's running it on some Macbook from 2006.

  • @DigitalGamma Dude i am running the app store on my 1.4 Ghz macbook air and its just as fast as my iMac!!! its like zoulkyud said its a web based store!!! hahahahaha

  • @katpis Try to render a Myspace page with a i7 and with a Pentium D. By your definition there should be no difference.

Ever wonder why it takes a phone so long to load a full feature site? Give you a tip, it's usually not the connection speed.

  • @DigitalGamma it doesnt matter if he has a mac pro dumbass its not like the applications are using all 8 of his cores there prob using like 2. You dont know what ur talking about stfu

  • @HDgameplay23 4 cores* He's using an i7 so it seeems.

  • @DigitalGamma I have a core 2 duo and it opens just as fast on my laptop ... the application is pretty fast

  • I think Apple wants to get rid of the cd/dvd drive and cut out the middle man like bestbuy, and cut out of time and materials to make a hard copy to sell. I've got to say that I don't hardly over use my disk drive. If Apple came out with a thinner iMac with out a cd/dvd drive, I would buy that.

  • Steal Apps, Save Money.

  • I think MS has plans to do something similar in Windows 8, however MS has already started this with Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace so expanding upon that is likely to happen. I personally don't like the MGWM for the sole reason that certain games I have to install this software and then create an account for it even though I directly got it from Steam.

  • @blacksteel25 This would not surprise me. To be honest, Microsoft have a software verification program in place, but it never really moved on into anything else. All it will take is showcasing verified programs in something like Zune or Windows live market, in exchange for 10% of the sale.

On the subject of Windows 8. apparently their going to add face recognition, that can log you in and out as soon as you approach or leave your computer. :O

  • OMG, finally made a video huh? U been missed pal!

  • lets hope iOS apps come into the mac app store instead of through iTunes...itunes is more like itunes + app store...might as well break it up !

  • @DRBUK

I just wish itunes would sync with an add only option. Instead of full sync every time.

  • @zoulkyud lol never thought about that ! good idea !

  • Why can't the iTunes store be this fast?

  • Great to see you making videos again Eric. I must admit, I was sceptical of the Mac App Store, but I downloaded and tried it on day one and I have not looked back. I totally agree with you, it is flawless and I'm loving it!!

  • I like the direction Apple is going. One of the biggest pieces of the Apple pie is iOS, and Apple integrates what they've learned and accomplished with it with OSX very well. 10.7 is going to have even more iOS-based features. This is a direction that no other company has gone before, and so far it seems to be working for them very well. I can't wait for 10.7! Bravo Apple, and great video Eric!

  • Is the final cut suite in there i cant find it =(

  • @GXbrandon Nope, not there.

  • Its basicly a copy of Steam / a Linux packet manager, nothing original as usual.

Steam has been doing it for ages, Packet managers have been doing it for free for years.

Flawless launch? It was cracked in less than 24 hours. I wouldnt call that flawless.

  • @adamh3212 Its a copy of the iOS App store, The idea of having an App Store maybe taken from Steam or a Linux Packet manager.

They did a good job, and nothing is flawless, Not even a Mac!

  • @adamh3212 i wouldn't call a rumor confirmed. that dev team hasn't shown anything yet. i dont believe in speculation and your right about the packet manager but its still good.

  • Its basicly a copy of Steam / a Linux packet manager, nothing original as usual.

Steam has been doing it for ages, Packet managers have been doing it for free for years.

  • @AppleSoldier Will you be switching to Verizon?

  • It better be snappy. They were designed for a mobile platform, so being slow is inexcusable.

  • Steam is complicated? Downloads take forever? Are you fucking kidding me? Steam deals with full fledged, real games, not piss ass iOS games coded with iPaint or some other bullshit.

  • @kaosum2 Torchlight issues are not Steams fault, Steam is a content distribution platform, just like Linux repositories, just like what the App Store is wanting to be. For Apple to take a preexisting idea, re-market it, and you say its brilliant while saying everything else is complicated is just retarded.

Also noticed how easily you typed in your superuser password when you installed some random ass application. Seems way to easy for some person to put malicious code for remote access.

  • windows 8 betas going to be a rip off of mac if u just look up what it is

  • @Lazekage What does OSX have thats original? Its UI design? Its BSD with spiffy Apple code to make it look pretty and be as proprietary as hell.

  • @kaosum2 The UI is based on The original Mac OS, It is Original to Apple =)

  • @TheGayMacUser Look up the story of Xerox & Apple. All so watch "Pirates of Silicon Valley"... it is really quite a fascinating movie. The bottom line go's like this. Apple stole the idea of the GUI from Xerox. Xerox couldn't really do anything about it... you know what... *Googleing* just look at this.

    en.wikipedia.o rg/wiki/Apple_Computer,_Inc._v._Microsoft_Corporation

  • Microsoft hinted at a software store for win8 a long time ago. Before Apple announced this one.

  • you can get cracked mac store apps extremely easy :), but i dont recommened doing this cause if we dont buy them, then devs wont sell apps. so, at the most, try the apps out and then buy them

  • Happy to see another one of your videos, Eric.

it's definitely been a long time since your last video.

  • This video seems a little late. I thought it was going to be on the verizon iphone.

  • Don't buy the "Graphic Design Studio" App, it crashes all the time.

  • Long time man peace

  • Mac Store is really not the first store of its type and not really the best (compared to Ubuntu Software Center, Intel AppUp, Steam, etc)

BTW. Its snappy because you're on an 8 core Mac Pro. Not everybody has one of those.

  • @Tr1pTr0p Works great on my 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook..

  • @Tr1pTr0p He is on an iMac :P

  • @Tr1pTr0p its snappy on macbook pro 13

  • 5th!

  • Ubuntu has had this for years... except for free...

  • @MaxterTheTurtle except its shit apps and it sucks , synaptic is better for install software or even the terminal

  • youre awesome. keep it up, man

  • (A belated) Happy new year Eric!
