The first time I ever heard this tune; I was digging some Neil Young and found your version of "The Needle" .For some reason I chose One of these things first to listen to next. I listened to a lot of Nick Drake after that and discovered his life story thanks to you ,Julie.Its been a year and a half since I last listened to you and got use to the piano in the original song.I like yours because that's how it was written to be played I believe. WOW! I'm so flattered! I discovered Nick Drake during a pledge drive to my radio station KCRW. One of the volunteers suggested "Family Tree" by Nick Drake. I wasn't familiar with his music and I too spent the next year listening to nothing but Nick Drake. I bought this GREAT special edition box set "Nick Drake - Fruit Tree" with three CDs, linear notes with stories and a DVD called "A Skin to Few". Its one of my treasures :)

Aw wow. Each video I watch is better than the last. This is one of the best sounding Nick Drake covers on youtube. It just feels right.

And NICE Larrivee (L-09 I think?). It sounds like a guitar should. I have it's little brother, an LS03R. Best guitar I ever played (at any price).

@buniluvr Nobody is getting their hands on my , ha ha!!. It's one of 78, signed by Jean! The LS is one inch smaller than the L at both bouts, and 3/4 inch shallower. It's just a perfect fingerstyle guitar.

Your L has an amazing full tone though.

Honest opinion: a little too much sincerity and...gravity? I always felt a sense of "situation hopeless but not serious" in Nick's "autobiographical" songs. Of course it could also be a case of he was just so damned good at his music that it would be impossible for anyone to get very close to carrying off the balancing act that was his music. Anyway...it's nice, thanks for sharing it.

also, i notice that you rest your pinky while fingerpicking. is that something you picked up from a guitar teacher? i just ask because I'm often not sure what to do with my pinky while fingerpicking. picking with it is kind of hard :)

as one of the few people who saw nick drake live I would like to say this is a good version of one of my favourite of his songs.

I guess you were asking me ? it was at the festival hall london on september 24th 1969. he was supporting fairport convention and john and beverly martyn. as Ive mentioned to another enquirer, he was very unassuming and played for about 40 minutes, mainly from 5 leaves left and also things behind the sun. Id already heard him, and the performance was very good and memorable.I wish I had seen him again in his increasingly rare live career.
