I don't get Anthrax haters. Anthrax is good. Listen to "Among the Living", "Persistence of Time", "State of Euphoria", "Spreading the Disease." There one of the few thrash bands that actually writes lyrics from the heart that are relatable to anybody (metalheads). It's about actually really social problems not the fake bull crap about sucking satans dick and killing people because you can deal with your problems.
Metallicrap is slowly being exposed for the hacks they are and as more and more people discover how many other incredibly good bands preceded and outplayed them and continue to do so over 30 years later they will slowly become a footnote or (hopefully) all but disappear from the annals of TRUE metal history...
james murphy, an excellent man. amazing solo's always. dave lombardo, revered in metal for being in slayer and beating the shit out of his kit and the god of double bass. chuck billy, a vocalist that has not only become like a god in the eyes of the fans, but has overcome cancer. eric peterson. one of the founding cats of testament, one of the best riff writers in the world (beats mustaine for me personally.) and steve digorgio, almost positively one of the best bassists to ever grace metal.
My only complaint here is that you can't tell it's DiGiorgio on bass. For some reason, pretty much every band he's been in tends to make the bass magically disappear under the other instruments. Charred Walls Of The Damned is a good example of this: while being an amazing group, there's a massive lack of DiGiorgio.
I think the best way to get to know what the guy's capable of is checking out his work with Death and Quo Vadis. Man, those were some sick motherfucking albums.
Metallica's early stuff is great and while they may have lost A LOT of momentum in the 90s, they're starting to return to their former sound with DM. For some reason, everyone acts as if Metallica committed some unforgivable act when almost every thrash band lost their roots until only recently with the resurgence of Thrash. Hating Metallica just for their 90s work does not make you "more metal." That said, this album is sounding really good. BTW, can anyone tell me if this album has any solos?
Agreed, there are countless of thrash bands who lost it in the 90's. Just because Metallica got big with tBA and the albums after, and because tBA was a great success, (and it was pretty good as well) Metallica is always mentioned as if they were the only thrash band to sell out, or become that mainstream.
Megadeth for example did it just as bad.
Btw, props to Chuck, Dave, and the rest of Testament for making this very good album!
i think this album had testaments best lineup, but gene hoglan is the best musician to ever play for testament and hes on demonic... its tough. james murphy, lombardo, and steve digiorgio vs gene and derrick ramirez. guess you gotta take this one. anything without louie clemente. that dude had a free ride if ive ever seen one (im lookin at you too lars).
AND metallica both be good bands? why do people hate on metallica so much? I dont like their 90s stuff as much but its not bad just not thrashy. some of the stuff in death magnetic is pretty thrashy and I'm one of the few people who actually like st. anger alot! but testament kicks ass as well!
LOL Metallica are fucking bullshit compared with this. Btw I don't get why many call Testament a second-class Metallica. Unlike them, Testament, never released a bad album, not even one, while all Metallica stuff from 1990 onwards sucks ass, and there's no hope of an improvement for them.
Testament never tried to rip them off, plus they launched their very own thrash style, adding melody to the music and deeper lyrical meanings than your average thrash band.
@faggotmutilator666 agreed, don't even compare, Metallica got worse and softer, Testament had a slight soft period but only got heavier and better from there. The Gathering is my favorite Testament album, even above The New Order,
@faggotmutilator666 My god you're ignorant and stupid, Testament did not invent meaningful lyrics for thrash, pretty sure it was done ages ago (one of those bands that did it before Testament was the band you seem to hate aka Metallica). And off the top of my head Testament released two bad albums (Demonic and Practice What You Preach).
Metallica went in a different direction and you know what, Load wasn't that bad, it was different, and different is nice, not repetitive, shitty thrash.
This is one of the few bands for me that started out writing awesome thrash songs, and only got better with time. The Gathering is a seriously heavy album.
dude, no... scott travis is waaaaay better than both of them, i mean cmon... and the drummer of dream theatre, if u think lars is better than him u r kind of stupid... truth's a bitch aint it?
between Slayer w/ Lombardo and Testament w/ Lombardo there's been great music in each band..idk what connection there is, i cant put my finger on it. ;]
have you tried this on guitar i own a bc rich warlock neck thru series wich comes best for songs this fast honestly when i say this this is the best line up of testament the songs were darker harder fast deeper heavier and louder the vocals send shivers down your spine dave is the best for testament my opinon the other musicans they had are gr8 but dave 4 the win LOMBARDO is god!
Killer line-up....Dave is a perfect fit on this album.....the music sounds so much like what Slayer was leaving behind in the 90'....this record is better than Diabolous...for sure.......
Holy mother of God all of Testament's best songs are on this album... D.N.R., Legions of the Dead, Riding the Snake and THIS MASTERPIECE OF METAL.
