  • This is great ,thanks for that. have tried it out and its definitely the best solution at the moment for my unwrapping needs...

  • YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER

  • lol

  • thank you for this tutorial. I always had a lot of problem getting proper UV maps done and your video has helped me a lot.

  • Omg, I spent hours unfolding uvs.. gonna try this now, thanks for sharing

  • Man, i love you!!!

This was the BEST unwrapping technique i've ever seen, EVER!

I was trying to find this for a while now, thank you so much :B

  • OH! Thanks so much for sharing <3

  • I know it's been a while, but when you're doing a tutorial, slow down... If you need to, just do them in parts.

  • hi cool tut, but can i ask

when you seperated the head, did you delete the body or hide it?

if you hide it did you use a layer or what? could you please tell me

  • @roidavidsen Well, i think he deleted it (but ONLY because it was a tutorial)

A think it'd be better if you just hide it with layers, or you can click on the "isolate select" button, which would do the same trick without deleting it or "losing time" "layering" it :)

  • Great trick, thanks.

Would like to see a part 2!

  • what is the website to download maya

  • @robloxguy1239851 ummm... u can download the free learning edition or u have to buy maya but maya cost very much of money ;).. it's the tool they use in hollywood

  • This helped a lot, I thought I was doomed in unwrapping something that complicated.

  • HELLO TYRANYSAURUS ALLEN!

  • thank you very much!

now it is my turn to try :)

  • You should be paid for this.

  • thx mate :) lol am such a noob when it comes to texturing :P

  • hey, nice vid but i have problems with the checker texture.. i only get four parts as in two black and two whit ones how do i get as many as you do?

  • @Mcreator83

I'm actually thinking of doing a long video intro to all aspects of UV'ing, cause I think it will help people. Just setup a site so I can put 30min vids up, or whatever length I want element-studios.co.uk, not much on there but it's for requests that take some explanation. All you do though is go into the checker node in atribute editor and then to the 2dplacement node, alter the repeats to whatever you want

  • @deanwrayUK

I do alter the repeats, but it does not affect the uvs that I created, It affects the previous one, how do I change the one that I,m working with?

  • @Mcreator83 To answer your question, you need to go into the textures place2texture-no which is hooked up to your material, all in the hypershade. The repeat should say 1 and 1 on U and V.. increase the value to say 10 and 10 and you will see it repeat, and give you more checkers

  • @kope7777 I'm thinking of doing lots more, maybe 2 to 5 per day if I can find the time. Enough to assemble a complete learning course. Playing with a test site now that has some REALLY boring videos, would welcome feedback :) element-studios.co.uk

  • @spartanabcPS3LIFE the teeth, tongue inner mouth eyes are separate. As this isn't a look at this model video, didn't have them visible.

  • ...roadkill 123 dun

  • I have maya 2010 I cannot select polygonal faces when I right click and select face. Can somebody tell me what my problem might be?

  • wow didn't know maya was capable of unwrapping like this. Thanks for the vid.

  • nice tut it gave me new idea, especially i dont like uv maping

  • thank you very much :)

  • baby t(oothless)-rex :D thx 4 the tutorial

  • sir how to use the uv texture eidtor how to use the cut uv edges and select shell

  • Tnx man! helped me alot!

  • on 2:06, what option are you using? And how do you sellect the line so fast?

  • @Bram1978

    probably select edge loop tool

  • How to insert it into a video?

  • arms is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too small...

  • no, they actually were that small

  • @biggestfishever and where is the t rex teeth??

  • most modelers do them separately? And why u askin me? its not my tutorial...

  • yeah biggestfishever lol where is the t-rex

    teeth lol

  • what?!

  • no you should have made them slightly bigger baldox is correct

  • thanks! it was very useful ;]

  • nice tut, but why the hell does everyone keep saying unwrap?? is that really the same thing as unfold or what?!

  • from what i've learnt (which isn't much) the unfold button kind of sorts out how stuff should be automatically,

unwrapping is the manual process of cutting edges, creating seams, moving/sewing edges, using spherical/cylindrical projections etc..

  • ahh.. thanx ;)

  • same thing yp !

  • Really great tutorial, I use MAX instead of Maya so know any plugins that have that nice unfold kinda thing?

  • haha isnt there an unfold in MAX? how is it suppose to be done then?

  • It's called pelt mapping and had been part of MAX for some time. In fact I think MAX had it before Maya did.

  • i havnet used max in a long time. i go to AAU and we use Maya here. but i think there is a UVW Unwrap in the modifiers panel and u just click the type of projetion you want. i might be wrong tho.

  • how do rigg the model if its separated though? how do you prepare it for riggng after textuxrng? do you just c=ombne all the parts? but if so won't that destroy the uvs.

  • one of the best uv unwrap tutorial ive come across, thanks for taking the time to make it!

  • thanks!

  • thanks mate..this what make a good tutorial, do it fast with nice clear explanation. really love it.

  • wow thats fast, thanks man!

  • this video is the best !!!

  • nice tutorial. thanx

  • hey its Dean..you dean how's it going fella.

    Best

    Phil...tycoon city project!!!

  • I've watched a few tutorials on uv mapping, and I still have trouble with it. I wish you would post a full (lengthy) tutorial on it so that I can better grasp what to do when things don't go well with a complex, or not so complex model.

  • awesome technique, keep up the great help

  • interesting technique man! Going to try it out

  • can I UV the model "after" skin bind and animation?

  • Sweet Model man
