  • Beautiful Poem.

But Carol Ann Duffy is making my last year at school too miserable.

  • @livvyhearts

No one can make you unhappy - no one has that power - only you have that power! So stop doing it to yourself and have some fun :)

  • Good for Carol Ann Duffy, she's done a heroic effort to improve Shakespeare's image, but I still think the 2nd best bed line in his will was the ultimate put-down and I can't imagine he was unaware of this.

  • @fel1c it wasn't a put down. the 2nd best bed is the marital bed that he and his wife would've slept in. the best bed would be the bed that the guests slept in so they can see how wealthy you are. he left his best bed to his daughter and her husband

  • I hope Anne Hathaway really did have as much fun as this!

  • @fel1c Agreed!! Mind you, I don't think personal hygiene was so good in those days!!

  • carol ann duffy made my life miserable for a whole year in school.......

  • Stealing - carol ann duffy

  • What sense does she mean by the metaphor "Diving for pearls"?...LoL

  • @mattnokblad She may mean, that he is diving to their hidden depths that only they share as a couple. Also pearls are rare, and they shared a rare love :)

  • check out Laeis Deuté a new poetry page

  • The tune is by French composer, Eric Satie. It is called Gymnopodie, No.1

  • could someone plz tell me the name of this song?

    thank u!! :D

  • its not a song its a poem by the poet laureate carol ann duffy

  • o, thnx!

    And what about the music?

  • Diving for pearls - reminds me of 'Dear Norman'. I will never look at that jewelry the same...

  • Hi Frank, good job, I think you got the pace well and gave the words the space of impact. I felt that burning feeling of being touched while watching.

  • Thank you.

  • I adore this poem, it's so beautiful! What is the name of the song please?

  • Gymnopodie number 1 by Erik Satie. I think he wrote three pieces caled gymnopodies (1-3). I seem to remember reading they were inspired by some statues of Greek athletes.

  • This poem is greatly effecting by it's near sonnet form, kinda lost it here =[

    otherwise, nice =]

  • 'Sal Paradise'? There is a serious element of plagarising On The Road !!

  • There is a serious element of stalking here. Sorry, someone had to say it.

  • BORING

  • My teachers always told me that only boring people called things boring. Tedious is a better choice!

  • Teachers have their own opinions - make up your own mind! Tedious and boring are really synonymous when judging poetry, so you're pretty much in agreement. Why go ad hominum?

  • I had to look up 'ad hominum'! Seems to apply more to argument and counter-argument more than opinions.

I was repeating what my teacher : 'Only boring people say boring.' We'd ask, 'What do you say when you something bores you?' His reply, 'Say it's tedious.'

Since it's a matter of opinion, we should prefix our statement with: I find it...

You're right. Everybody is entitled to their opinions. You find the poem didn't engage you. I find it witty, sexy, romantic: worth of a poet lauret

  • By ad hominum I mean you argue against the comment "BORING" by attacking the person who said it - "to the man". Most people agree this is a specious argument. In this particular case, tedious is a synonym for boring, so there's not much of a debate going on, anyway.

The poem is wonderful. I like your work, too, except I wish the poem would come out quicker. The pace was lost. Maybe you could show the whole poem up front long enough for people to read it, then start your video interpolations.

  • You're right, it's wrong to attack the speaker not the argument. Sorry. Pupils often claim something is boring meaning they don't understand it and won't try to. I thought you were coming from that angle when I now see you are much more thoughtful.

  • this poem makes me go like this ^_^ we studied it recently at school.. i loved it :D

great video, lovely music and the timing was awesome..

  • Glad you liked it. I love this poem. Tell your friends!!

  • I was at the same school as Carol, Stafford Girl's High School, at the same time.

  • Actually not bad, despite low, *low* production cost :)

Choices of images was good. Some decent software and higher resolution would make a good thing of this, it's well composed.
