I have been adding comments to this video about my experience with the Mossberg 930spx over the past year. Based on my previous posts, one can see that the gun handled all types of ammo well....until now. One day, the gun decided it would not cycle 2 3/4" wally world skeet loads ever again. The original owner said the same thing so I was suprised when it handled these loads for a year. Will post more as I go.
@micbaca Where you purchasing a particular type of ammo? If it is maybe the ammo has changed. I bought 2 different types of skeet ammo at wally world for my Benelli M4 and the Remington cycled but the Winchester didn't all the time.
This is typical of mossberg brand shotguns..Super reliable and great price. I look forward to purchasing a Mossberg 930...I am planning to use it to hunt wild pigs here on Guam...
3rd Time out with the SPX since I've had it (about 2 mo.) Shot the Federal 3" no problem. Shot some Federal Skeet loads, game loads and 2 3/4" sabot slugs. All with no problems. I missfeed (not a jamb) that snapped right in after I pressed the button. I had my wife shoot it with 2 3/4" skeet loads and she didn't complain. The semi autos really absorb the kick. Slug holes were touching at 30 yds. Very accurate gun with slugs. Just keep it lubed real well and don't drop your shells in the dirt.
The jambing may have been a result of me dissassembling the gun ealier, over lubricating it, combined with several dirt granules that got into the action after I dropped shells into the dirt. The Winchester 1550 fps is a steel shot, 3" shell that kicks like a mofo. After shooting 1 box, even with the SPX, your arm feels like it is about to fall off. The spread on the BB's with a tactical is big. After 30 yds a human target is to far for this shell. lesson learned. Onto the next outing.
Alright, another update after shooting the 930 SPX again. The Winchester 1550 fps magnum BB shells (3") ran fine until the end, where they would jamb about every 8shots. The air temperature was about 55 deg and the gun barrel was hot (to hot to touch). Don't know if this affected it. The 2 3/4" 1 oz Federal slugs were awesome accurate. 100 yds, no drop. 3" groups at 30 yds. The ghost site works loose as you shoot. Adjustablity on the site is also limited (i.e. still shoots high w/ site max out).
I bought one of these recently and just shot it for the 1st x this weekend. We put everytype of ammo, of all qualities through it, testing patterns at close and far, cycling etc. We shot rifled slugs, 6 shot, 7 1/2 shot, BB, 00 Buck, 000 Buck, &skeet rounds. I found reports of problems with low power rounds from some, but no problems from others. Must be gun specfiic. We shot about 150 rounds with multiple "dumping" sessions with cheapest ammo....not a single jam. 2 3/4" and 3" shells.
