I wish people'd stop insulting the beautiful heroes of Andersen's tale from their modern perspective and instead read the original immortal tale of the great Hans Christian Andersen. And tries understanding what it's really about. This is not some cheap soap opera you can criticize this way.

she is a martyr. i would really want to say that she is so stupid for falling for someone who doesn't even see her for who she is. besides how can she fall in love at first sight.

although i want to be really criticize how the character and story is supereficial i can't because this is Christians Hans Andersan's life we are seeing in the movie. he used the characters to depict his life. really its only a representation!

I have to disagree with you that the story is superficial. Have you actually read Hans Christian Andersen's original tale? This movie is close, but not completely accurate - the prince was not a jerk, he was simply misled. The mermaid gave up her voice, she was mute and couldn't explain her love to him, the princess was not the bitch she is showed to be but a quiet religious girl brought up in a convent. Andersen used the story to convey a lesson about what true love really means.

Ok now I'm mad! That is the most stupid prince I have ever seen!!! Firstly, that bitch he married didn't save him from drowning. Like she would miss up her tacky dress for him. Secondly, she totally showed no emotion when he was killed and didn't even see if he was okay when he was stabbed!
