  • I love leaving in Louisiana!!:))

  • Thanks for reading this classic from my youth , my grandpa used to read this to me when I was little, no idea what happened to the book , maybe my dad still has it tucked away somewhere but this really brought me back. Thanks !

  • Love your story-tellin'!!

  • so redneck casanova r u from louisiana

  • Good job, I gai-ron-tee!

  • bad accent, but oh well

  • But a great story all the same!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Yeah, bra, it is....

so if you're redneck cassanova, is your cousin in Louisiana Coonassanova?

  • I wouldn't be surprised...I got a lot of cousins!

  • Great attempt, man. But it takes a real Cajun to do it right. But I appreciate your trying!

  • I agree totally! Thanks, and thanks for watching!

  • Was my pleasure, brother.

  • May Papa Noel follow da bonfires tru de byu and find yo homes on Christmas Eve

  • Merci beauceaup, mon/m' ami, sho 'nuff THAT!

  • ah ye, well done.

  • Thanks so much! And thanks for watching!

  • A sho' nuff fine reedin'! :^)

  • Why thank ya kindly! How's it goin?

  • Loved it! As a Southerner myself (I mean a South American Southerner) I wonder what I would sound like trying to speak Cajun with my original accent? You pulled it off. Very funny too!! Feliz Navidad Matt!

  • Thanks so much! Your comment about telling a story reminded me that I needed to feature this on my page for a while! Thanks for the idea...glad you enjoyed it!

    Merry Christmas!

  • Hi I enjoyed the video thank you. I love Louisiana. Des Allemands La. Watch God Move

  • Thank YOU!

    And thanks for watching!

    Joyeux Noël, y'all!

  • My great grandfather is the one who wrote this story, hes cajun!!!!!!!!!! His name is J.B Kling Jr.

  • Well I'd have HOPED a real Cajun wrote it...that makes it all the mo' better, that!

    Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Thanks for doing this! There is another one of someone reading this story on here but he seems to be making fun of southerners so I was not fond of it. I am a southern girl (South Mississippi) stuck up here in Wisconsin thanks to Katrina. Anyway, thank you for giving me a taste of home. :)

  • I can't think of any higher praise than that. That means a great deal to me. Thank you SO much!

    Take care and be well!

  • I see I see. Well have fun with ideas!

  • Read this every year.

Funny how I moved to Florida a few months ago, and no one here understand it.

    <3 Cajuns

  • I'm debating whether to do a new version of it this holiday season...maybe not. I like this version pretty well.

Funny, I just moved FROM Florida a little while back...yeah, they can be a little ODD if you're used to living in the South!

    Thanks for watchin'!

  • Haha yes. What would the new version be like?

  • Well, of course I wouldn't change any part of the words...they're not mine to change...but I might go for a better performance or better video, y'know...THAT routine!

OR maybe I'll just leave it alone and come up with something different to do that's more or less seasonal!

    Hmmm...I'll keep thinkin'!

  • Casanova??

  • Just a name...

    Thanks for watching!

  • haha awsome. sometimes my friends cant understand me. i beginning to lose my cajun accent. just slightly and theyve never met a cajun before haha. so it get aggarvating repeatin myself sha.

  • :-)

    Thanks for watchin'!

  • Either you are a coonass or a redneck, However, I married a redneck from Arkansas and now my children are red asses.

  • Weird how it works out that way!

    Thanks for watching!

  • jeezus! I've loved that story since I was five!

And now I read it every year, an' I'm gonna read it to my kids some day

  • I discovered it somewhat later in life but it's since become a favorite of mine!

    Thanks for watching!

  • im a trosclair buddy and i anit a redneck so screw yawl who think i am

  • it pains me to say that I am on the trosclair tree, because everyone thinks I am a redneck because it apparently got really famous, but I am definitely not a redneck. as you can tell by my vids. My dad said my great grandfather was the Trosclair... I really hope he is kidding.

  • Dancingdead it's SO much something NOT to worry about! If you're from the South by more than a generation or two then you've inevitably GOT family that's 'normal', and family that's regularly-featured on COPS, and family that's somewhere in-between, just like the rest of us!

Love 'em in ALL their weirdness or don't!

But most importantly be yourself and to hell with anyone who pressures you to do or think otherwise!

Who you are is only PARTLY where you come from...the rest is up to you!

  • nice hat.

  • Thanks. It's a family hair-loom! ;-)

  • this is what happens if you mate with your sister

  • I've often wondered about that...thanks for the advice!

  • thats allright, being close with the family is important! that and underaged boy's!

  • this is not a cajun accent. i do not know what he is trying to do. but if he is trying to sound like a calun, he missed.....

  • Woops, sorry! I'm sure your calun accent is MUCH better.

  • Love it, thanks for putting this vid up.

  • Thanks so much for watching!

  • wow

  • Wow GOOD or wow BAD? ;-)

Either way, thanks for watching and commenting!

  • awful cajun accent...oh so stereotypical for louisiana.

  • It's based on a widely-known and beloved piece written and performed by a fellow who's a real Cajun...admittedly unlike myself.

Besides, those of us with any sense of humor at all know how to laugh at ourselves and find humor in our own cultural stereotypes...or at least I know I do!

  • Nice hat. :) That's a funny accent - a bit hard to follow for a non-English, but I enjoyed the tale anyway.

  • It is an unusually hard accent to follow, as many American Southern accents are, but this one is a bit obscure and not widely spoken, so it can be tricky even for those of us who live in the American South. I study accents and dialects in English and a few other languages, so I admire your willingness to listen closely...and most of all I'm SO glad you enjoyed this silly video!

    Matt

  • thanks RedneckCasanova!!!! that was fun! :)

I have grown up with that story every year for about 20 years of my life here in South Mississippi!!! :)

  • Glad you enjoyed it! It's very special to me too and this is the first time I ever tried telling it on video!

Your being from South Miss that's right high praise that I kinda-sorta came close to a convincing accent too, considering I'm from TN!

    Thanks a bunch!

    Matt

  • haha

yea they play the original recording video on WLOX-TV every Christmas Eve.

  • That's cool...the rest of us just have to find it where we get it!

    Thanks again for watchin'!

  • That was outstanding!

  • Thanks, man! I recorded a version a couple years back that I give away as token gifts but I finally got around to taping it!

  • Merry Christmas and Gumbo for all my men :O)

    Goodly done Matty!

  • Thank ya! Now where's my gumbo?! ;-)

  • Love this...~ What a great version!

    Santa and his Skiff!*****

  • Thanks! And thanks for visiting!

    Matt

  • Hey! You posted the lyrics too cool:)lol lol

    lol love this:)

  • Thanks Jane!

While the words ARE out there on the web it's hard to find versions without mistakes and typos in 'em. I hope the version I smoothed out from one of these sources is close to accurate!

  • I could follow it:) (ha,ha) Everytime I hear this I start cracking up! LOL

  • well howdy stranger.

    lol love the hat.

    ha ha good one!

  • Thanks!

Oh, and the hat's multifunctional: straighten out the brim a little and turn it frontwards and VOILA, Y'ALL...it turns into my Don Williams hat! ;-)

  • :-D

  • (-;

  • hahaha that was great

  • Thanks!

  • Matt, Y'all have out done yourself. The story was written in true coon ass fashion, but the telling of it was the icing on the cake.

    Matt

  • Oh, yeah....ALMOST FORGOT....MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

  • Merry Christmas to you too!

I'm not sure which I like better...blackberry wine or peach!

  • I think I'd prefer blackberry...

  • I can only go by what my dad used to make .Both were good but his peach was the best! He always 2nd fermented them under gas pressure which gave them a slight carbonation that was nice.

I might just have to take over the family tradition!

  • Wine from blackberry....mmmmmm

  • GOOD stuff! ;-)

  • LMAO Matt you make one fine coon ass Cajun! Merry Christmas. -Jim
