  • @HULKEUS all the songs are original and unreleased

  • His groove isn't fluent? youre crazy bro! He's played on more albums than you have on your ipod.

Those aren't bubinga shells. the toms are birch the kick is maple

And the last song sounds like the compressor is set to high on the kick. its smashing it creating a popping sound

  • @v7JaMz7v This is not jazz.

  • This music is absolutely awesome. Shannon has that nice jazz comping techinque which adds beautifully to the alt/prog style, as well as the New Orleans style. It's keeps the music moving, and more interesting!

  • wow... what a motherfucker this guy is! in terms of his confidence and feel.. nice sound too

  • Who is singing the last song???

  • @TheMrSteelhead chris rodriguez

  • Massive J.P head for sure.

  • He's good........at making me miss Jeff Pocaro

  • the last track is not on the dvd. what's going on there.

  • Bernard purdie was the first, then john bonham came up with a variation and then jeff porcaro combined both of the previous shuffles to create his own. Jeff actually explains all this in a video, it's on youtube.

  • Fab drummer! Played on his first Gospel recording at age ten, although never a church musician. He began playing professionally in his father's recording studio in SC, and transitioned into the Nashville session scene by age 19 . Google his name and check out all the stars he's played for. . . tons!!

  • Just randomly clicked on this vid after watching Benny Greb....wow, I got to check more of Shannon's playing! Anyone knows who else he's worked with?

Nice groove work...and if he's emulating Jeff Porcaro, so what? Every drummer's gotten an idea from someone else....but once it goes through your hands, with your touch and your sounds (and hopefully with some decent practice and playing with others), then you stamp it with your own heart and personality.

Isn't that what it's all about?

  • i dont like his groove... it isnt flowing

  • Jeff in my heart.

  • is it me or there must be a trigger on that base drum? Right?

  • @vademax44 What makes you say that? It's a nice kit. Bubinga shells give you that kind of sound.

  • @VonGreim in the last song, the base drum sounds wierd, i can't say what's it is exactly, but something in the attack, maybe the way it's been compressed... someone has an idea?! Thx for your comment Von :)

  • @VonGreim thats a yamaha bubinga? didnt know they made a bubinga kit... do they? or are you refering to another kit?

  • wow, killer pocket...

    this guy's legit

so nice to see a drummer playing music.

  • Im pretty sure he uses all Twenty Series cymbals. And if you know anything about his playing style and how precise his tones are. You would understand why his kit is so large. I saw him at a Faith Hill show and he was playing a 3 tom kit.

  • EXACTLY!!! Jeff Porcaro... groove, grip, tuning, set-up, cymbal brand, similar set-up sizes, even the Hats and crashes sound the same. This guy's biggest influence is as bright as that red set he's playing.

  • nice grooves but he should serioulsy consider cutting down on his setup. his playing dosn' really need 5 tomtoms^^

  • i really would like to know his cymbal setup. they just sound amazing...i see some twenty series there and maybe a signature dark energy crash?

  • @Aqualungization His MD Fest setup, according to the Paiste website:

    14” Twenty Hi-Hat

    20” Signature Full Crash

19” Dark Energy Crash MK I

    21” Twenty Ride

18” Dark Energy Crash MK I

    20” Twenty China

  • around 1:40 reminds me alot of chester thompsons playing!

  • @tdougs77 I agree, very "Chester"

  • I was at the festival. While all the drummers did an excellent job, Shannon was my favorite.

  • ...the original is called...jeff porcaro

  • @pee429 You right dude. He's really ispired to Jeff...

  • @pee429 I agree!

  • @pee429 ... jeff is my favorite drummer but if you are talking about his shuffles ... he is not the original ..the originals , and jeff would tell you this himself , are Bernard Purdie and John Bonham on Fool in the Rain

But listening to this cat , I agree that he is very influenced by Jeff ... he sounds a lot like Jeff

  • @pee429 I'd say Bernard Purdie...

  • @pee429 for sure !!!!

  • @pee429 you got that right... im just glad there are still dudes that want to groove instead of trying to stupify the crowd like all the guitar center drum offf wankers... :) jeff was and still is the one of the best, and perhaps the best feel drummer ever, and when you turn on the radio everyday you can hear jeff 5 times... if you even know if it was him on the track or not! cheers!

  • Wowww! You got the groove dude! Excellent drummer. Never heard of him, but i'm a new fan!

I would love to see Gergo Borlai on the Modern Drummer Festival!

  • @Sammo2988 Agreed. :)

  • @Sammo2988 OOOOH YEAH Gergo would burn away pretty much any drummer on this event...

  • @Sammo2988 Yeah, Gergo Borlai!!

  • I don't know a lot about Shannon, but if I had to guess, I would say he's played on a lot of country albums. He has that solid Nashville sound.

  • Yes, hes a great drummer. Hes a studio drummer in Nashville and began playing in church ensembles and began migrating into the studio world soon after. Congrats Shannon!!!! Thanks for representing us Nashville musicians!!!!

  • those are the nicest symbols I've ever heard.

  • @loveja1 :P You sound like someone told you the artist formerly known as the artist formerly known as prince's previous name... :) Cymbals.

  • @loveja1 -Paiste Cymbals --The Best .!

  • does anyone know what the song is at 1.30?

  • WHERE IS THE VIDEO OF CHRIS COLEMAN?

  • @manucolaiuta idk if there will be. I was there and all chris did was put on a master class prior to the main event, but it was being filmed....... so who knows?

  • Yep, he sure has listened to a lot of Jeff. He even moves like Jeff, his snare, heck his whole kit incl cymbals sounds like Jeffs. There were a lot of "Jeff-isms" in his fills too. NIce playing.

  • a drummer like more others...

  • were there any metal drummers at 2010? ^_^

  • He reminds me of Jeff Porcaro, which is a good thing!

  • Wow.

  • One of my favorite drummers! Such amazing feel

  • Massa pra caralho!!!!1
