@TAFFIEBARB I agree...til I hear it from the president's mouth, I don't take anybody's word on anything he may have said. With that said, however, I do recall hearing the president comment on MJ's passing and he really didn't say much, which struck me as odd, considering what MJ meant to the world. BUT...that's just it. I am a very big admirer of MJ & of Obama and say that for the first time Obama enormously disappointed me. Yes it has important files under the hands, but it seem to me that it would have been able in to do a lot more for this man that was far from being any man. It seem to me that that would not have harmed it to take 2min to call the family and to do a public declaration of 5min.
PHONY! What a sloppy statement about Michael Jackson, a culturally, musically and nationally important individual! Michael was the one person who could unite people of all races/cultures together. With his music, humanity and kindness, people put aside their differences to celebrate his love. Obama could have been more respectful about making a statement, he could have called the Jacksons and offer condolences. Michael was very much apart of OB's childhood, I know it.
Michael Jackson was an important person for the U.S. and the world culturally in so many ways, and the president of the country didn't really have anything to say about such a distinguished citizen. Really poor leadership.

True. MJ did donate over $400 thousand dollars to charity, but people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Oprah have donated MUCH MUCH MUCH more than Michael.
thats actually 400 millions according to guiness. and yes you are right. but MJ was not as rich or those people. but still he is the most charitable entertainer ever
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't doubt MJ was extremely generous however I don't believe he gave anywhere near $400 million & I don't think Guiness claimed that he did. MJ's net worth was around $236 million so your $400 million figure sounds impossible. Perhaps $40 million is a more reasonable estimate.
I have to kindly say that you are misinformed. ALL the money that was made from the Dangerous World Tour was donated to various charities including his own Heal The World Foundation. The previous Bad Tour, which was a smaller tour brought and estimated 130 million dollars, so it is safe to assume from the Dangerous Tour alone he gave atleast 150 million
Even assuming that's true, you still have to deduct taxes. I'm not disputing that he was extremely generous; perhaps even the most generous in music. But $400 million does not sound plausible & I doubt any reliable source would claim he gave that much in his life time.
Michael did give a lot to charity, but I doubt he gave anywhere near $300 million. Google "The 50 Top American Philanthropists". Michael never made that list. Also, his net worth was $237 million as of 2007 according to the Associated Press so Michael could not have given more than he ever had.
ur right about the 300 million dollar thing because he donated OVER $ 500 million to 39 charities and is the most charitable celebrity everything else u said is wrong
I don't think so. MJ never once appeared on Business Week's list of the top 50 philanthropists in America. I can believe he donated over $50 million but I can find no reliable source claiming he donated hundreds of millions. His net worth was only $237 million in 2007 according to the Associated Press.
Over his entire career, Forbes estimates that MJ earned a total of $550 million in income. A huge chunck of that went to taxes & much of the rest went to running & maintaining Neverland, his legal fees, his private jet & other debts. He was a great humitarian but he was never rich enough to give hundreds of millions to charity. Only billionaires can afford to give that much.
IF you want to be BRAINWASHED with lies, and distortions, watch the TABLOID media GARBAGE!
BUT, if you want to know the TRUTH about MJ's trials SEARCH here in youtube:
Thomas Mesereau and Aphrodite Jones
And WATCH in youtube what Atty. Mesereau (the white-haired lawyer)--Michael Jackson's Lead Defense Lawyer said about Michael, and what book he endorses as the AUTHENTIC and most HONEST/TRUTHFUL book to read about Michael Jackson!
I like Obama-just dissapointed no initial statement was was made. He was also slow/gappy in trying to explain, which makes me feel it was not overall very positive behind the scenes...if you know what I mean.
As for, "him having aspects of his life being sad and tragic" - a lot of THAT was caused by many scumbags!. At 1:08, when asked why no written statement, he says, "Because I just said it". But, he only SAID it because was asked! Find that odd!!
Agree 100%! Just another douche in business attire. He would never know or try to know who and what Michael jackson was about. All the contributions that Michael had made over his lifetime to music and to the world. Esp all the turmoil that he had suffered throughout his life.
However, Michael did said that he has an amazing life; that he loved entertaining. Also, his children are his life. They brought him true joy and happiness. So that's comforting to know.
yeah huge douche. especially because he would never know or try to know who and what Michael Jackson was about. Because that's REALLY important right? give me a fucking brake. there are far more important issues out there other than what is going on in POP CULTURE. the fact that you think this guy is at fault because he doesn't have a great answer to what the Pres is feeling about Jackson's death is stupid.
Okay, go get your F'ing break honey. Why are you asking me. Oh, and since you're such a serious non-douche person who only think about "far more important issues" please go do the world some good while you're taking your F*ing break. If you think my comment is stupid, then that would make you even more stupid by spending you "important" time commenting on it. I think he's a douche because of the way he answered it. With that smirk on his face.
If you're going to address a dead person, doesn't matter who. You need to have more respect than that.
When Elvis Presley died, President Jimmy Carter's message to the nation was, "with Elvis Presley a part of our died as well." What do you think of that Mr. Wise guy??...
Of course there are serious issues out there in the world. They were there in the past, right now, and will always be there in the future. What have to You done to change the world? How have to better other people's lives around the world? What have You accomplished? What this One Man achieved is truely amazing. No not because he's A POP Icon. But because he did his best of what he was. He didn't sit around with his millions but used it to help people around the world.
Everyone has a role in this world. Whether a cleaning lady or The Pope, we are just as important. Don't speak so lightly of another person. Rather speak of them through the character that they presented to you.
I was surprised & disappointed that Obama made no effort to make a public statement about Michael. It didn't have to be long, but I do think he should have had the courage to say SOMETHING about a person who's had such an impact on our culture. Carter spoke about Elvis' death and Reagan spoke about Lennon's. It's obvious that Obama didn't speak out for political reasons, but MJ was never convicted of a crime, and there are diplomatic ways to say things. I think he took the coward's way out.
@Cathie8791, I agree with you. I was kind of disappointed in Obama statement. To me the statement made it seems like you was trying to down play Michael a little bit. Obama also seems to be like he was trying not to saying nothing because he don't want to come under fire for saying something about MJ. But, MJ was in fact innocent of all charges, so to hold him being innocent for the president not to make a powerful statement about him, is kind of shady. Oprah where is your statement?
@Cathie8791 Obama is a House nigga (literally) that is afraid to acknowledge, represent or pay respect to anything Black, because he's afraid of the right wing pulpit. He distanced himself from his own preacher to appease them for crying out loud! MJ's hated by them because he's bigger than Elvis and OWNS the Beatles' catalog, both being the sacred cows of homogenized America. Smh....
michael had a bigger reflect on all people thats why it was a bigger deal to obama i hardly even knew farraw fawett but i love michael jackson more than anybody in the world!!!!!
secretary gibb we as americans know that you were making it up as you go along..obama didnt say anything because he dont give a shit. But let it had been beyonce or jayz...
people seriously .. why would obama pay that much respect to micheal jackson (mikaeel) .. he died a muslim since when have the u.s goverment cared about a muslim dying.?
Obama caved in to the pressure of the Michael Jackson haters. He didn't want to upset them, so her figured he'd be evasive about his passing. I don't appreciate how he ignored Farrah Fawcett's passing, too. She was a different kind of icon, and had waged a public battle with cancer. I am very disgusted by his disrespectful behavior.
Obama has missed a golden opportunity to secure a second term and I hope he doesn't try to redeem himself now. Too late. When he doesn't come back it will be because his most ardent supporters will never forgive this. Remember why. It is because you let Michael Jackson down.
Michael Jackson was an important person for the U.S. and the world culturally in so many ways, and the president of the country didn't really have anything to say about such a distinguished citizen. Really poor leadership.
Leaders of foreign nations (such as the UK, France and many others) issued statements about the passing of MJ, noting his great contributions to the arts and endless humanitarian work. Yet, Obama snubbed MJ who was an AMERICAN CITIZEN!
To absolve some of his guilt over his fame and molestation of children the guy spoke out about a few causes like every guilt ridden celebrity and also donated some dough from his printing press of cash. Big deal. With all of the spare time he had and billions of dollars, it's the equivalent of me and you organizing a bake sale one day and dropping 75 cents into a Jerry Lewis can at 7-11. Just because someone is a talented artist doesn't mean we should stop the rotation of the earth when he dies.
Actually Jackson is in the Guinness book of records for giving to charities. That places him above Oprah who had atleast as much if not more wealth than he does. I also don't think he wastes time having "guilt" over his fame, he could probably care less what petty minds that despise the rich thought about these matters. By the way, you shouldn't throw around criminal accusations unles you can actually prove them.
Actually Oprah's given far more money to charity than Michael ever did. Oprah was the first & only black to make Business Week's list of America's greatest philanthropists. Jackson was listed by Guiness only in the pop star category.
apparently you havent seen much of his videos. besides, there were alot of good things he did but the press didnt cover it because it was good publicity not bad publicity. in anycase michael is priceless. hope he finally gets to rest in peace
The Beatles catalogues is worth $1 billion at the most. And as you say, he only owned 50%. The value of music is declining because of the internet. Also, when someone dies, the government takes another 50% of all their assets.
Outside of being an exceptional artist, MJ steadily worked with charities to aid the poor and sick. He was invited to the White House by three presidents to receive awards for his humanitarian efforts. He gave millions to charities and even founded his own. The U.S. Congress noted his contributions to our culture by putting one of his albums in the Library of Congress. Yet, Obummer didn't issue an official even after foreign leaders did so. Obummer's massive ego was bruised b/c MJ upstaged him!
Jesus Christ!!! Can't you JUST say your SORRY!? That he was a great preformer and an amazing person and just let if f ing rest. The man died - have some compassion you souless jerkoff.
I know that MJ was the king and will forever be a legned but is there really a need for a press conference?? seriously i will miss MJ as much as the rest but really ppl.... haha i love how the TRY to be funny lol
Why are they so concerned on the president's opinion of Michael Jackson? Aren't there more important things we should be concerned about, like say Iraq and the economy?
he spends his time addressing the tragidies going on at the moment, but giving a press conference to praise one of the greatest american citizens ever isn't nessessary?
as the great american leader, it would have been fit to address it, not only becasue of his music, but the fact that he was one reason why the the racial barriers have been broken (to an extent) and one of the reasons why barack is even in office as president .. not to mention all the charity work mj did
did you really just suggest going to a site that may have (probably dont) have a video of the autopsy and then say rest in peace? way to give him peace dude.... disrespectful in my opinion
bitch i can care less if you agree with me matter of fact i wouldn't want a nasty fuck like you to even think on the same wave length as me with your nasty ass hindmost Rhetoric. meaning your gay ideas are showing too the world what you really are.
Obama didnt either say all that sh*t. What a deuchebag. What Obama said was what we ALL said; "Woah! No fu*king way! Get outta here! Suicide? Wait...accidental od..right? am I right ? was it accidental od? it so was. Bat shit crazy- but he was alright...think of something nice to say and I'll sign it".
The truth is that the name and legacy of Michael, is and will continue to be in our hearts for eternity and for future generations. And the name of Mr. Obama? Well we'll see ... how and why.
what's in a name? Millions of years from now were all be forgotten eventually. Obama had to speak for the nation, and you've got to agree, even though MJ's achievements for music were astounding, this was a troubled man.
Prince bravo, I lost rspect towards Obama, Obama is a weak man he just proved the world that he is a Coward, how emberassing it is from other countries VP's congressman all sending their condolences to Michael, but our Coward president didn't took the time to make statement, SHAME ON YOU OBAMA, AND YES I VOTED FOR YOU.
No we dont him to go on TV for a Press conference.Remember that this President is willing to host questionable figures like Chavez and Ahmadinejad as a matter of "poilte etiquette and diplomacy" but he is failing to console a family in mourning.
Just as I thought this Obama guy is a chicken coward. If you noticed carefully,he is always following behind instead of leading. Its all about himself. Why not just give a word of condolence to the Jackson family as Gordon Brown did ? PATHETIC.
You guys bitched that he had ice cream with his kids while there are two wars going on. Now, you want him to go on tv and talk about a pop star? If he did, you'd start bitching about him not having his priorities strait again.
A pop star? A pop star who was invited to the white house, who used his fame to bring attention to the starvation and genocide across the globe, who founded the Heal the World Foundation, visited dozens of countries around the world, took an Africa tour and stood with president Mandela, and who lobbied for more money to be given to AIDS/HIV charities during the Clinton Administration. Just a pop star, right? I'm not even a die hard fan and I remember. The point is...he didn't have to.
I am a huge Obama supporter. However, the fact that he could make a comment about Jessica Simpson's weight, but could not open his mouth up about Micahel, really left a bad taste in my mouth. REAL PATHETIC.
I think it was chicken shit that President Obama did not speak for himself. Real cowardly..Sometime he plays it too safe. The man was found innocent by a majority white, Santa Barbara juror for that bs kid charge and our Presidnt should man up and honor an American/worldwide legend!
your right....but keep in mind this is politics. The Elephants would use this against him in 2012 if Obama gets too comfortable with Michael Jackson. Trust me they will..
What's wrong with Obama commenting on MJ's death - Mj is an American music icon!! the greatest American entertainer who walked on this planet!! Gordon Brown phoned Simon Cowell and P Morgan to ask about Susan Boyle. Ludicrous - can u believe that ?!"- all the more so for someone like MJ. I saw him performed live in 1993 - he was incredibly talented, brilliant love every minute of that experience just watching him move on the stage was a privilege and now of course very valuable memory.
i think obama should have given statement on this..........bcoz mj is cultural icon of america and he also recived awards from two former presidents ronald reagan and bush sr. this guy deserve respect...............
so would u please tell me what is obama doing about it..................and dude he even had given a statement on his death .........few second for giving condolence to some one'ce family does'nt mean this world is going to end ..........think about it and then comment. coz ur making ur self look like an idiot
I am a BIG Obama supporter and I waited for a statement from Obama. I mean, he released statements for FOREIGN HOLIDAYS or FOREIGN EVENTS SUCH AS NEWRUZ....an AMERICAN CITIZEN who is a world icon dies and Obama can't take 5 minutes? DISAPPOINTING
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I would absolutely agree w/ u, but there were much more pressing issues (Iran) that PRESIDENT Obama had to deal with, however, yes, he could take 5 minutes to make a public statement regarding Michael Jackson's passing.
During times like these you realize what is important. Chaos caused by power/greed or the mortality of influential people. As pressing as Iran is in the global sense, domestic occurrences should not be neglected. For 40+ years through music/tours, MJ was a large influence on our country/ world/ history. He happened to pass in the midst of Iran's chaos. His country's leaders should not be too busy to mourn him. There will always be foreign issues, but one moment to honor this death.
Obama can compliment the work of Ludacris but he can't make a statment about the death of Michael Jackson?
Why?
Because stats tell him that Ludacris is popular with young people and so it's good to kiss up to him, but the the past controversies surrounding Jackson dissuade him from saying anything about that.
Obama was waiting for those dumb journalists to ask him
he expected it to be asked

I have to kindly say that you are misinformed. ALL the money that was made from the Dangerous World Tour was donated to various charities including his own Heal The World Foundation. The previous Bad Tour, which was a smaller tour brought and estimated 130 million dollars, so it is safe to assume from the Dangerous Tour alone he gave atleast 150 million
kahretsin 2 years ago 3

MsMjfan21 2 years ago 5
I don't think so. MJ never once appeared on Business Week's list of the top 50 philanthropists in America. I can believe he donated over $50 million but I can find no reliable source claiming he donated hundreds of millions. His net worth was only $237 million in 2007 according to the Associated Press.

but that was just 2007
MsMjfan21 2 years ago
Over his entire career, Forbes estimates that MJ earned a total of $550 million in income. A huge chunck of that went to taxes & much of the rest went to running & maintaining Neverland, his legal fees, his private jet & other debts. He was a great humitarian but he was never rich enough to give hundreds of millions to charity. Only billionaires can afford to give that much.

R.I.P Michael!
Angie2106 2 years ago
WinterSnow93 2 years ago 2
yeah huge douche. especially because he would never know or try to know who and what Michael Jackson was about. Because that's REALLY important right? give me a fucking brake. there are far more important issues out there other than what is going on in POP CULTURE. the fact that you think this guy is at fault because he doesn't have a great answer to what the Pres is feeling about Jackson's death is stupid.
SkotNewbower 2 years ago
Okay, go get your F'ing break honey. Why are you asking me. Oh, and since you're such a serious non-douche person who only think about "far more important issues" please go do the world some good while you're taking your F*ing break. If you think my comment is stupid, then that would make you even more stupid by spending you "important" time commenting on it. I think he's a douche because of the way he answered it. With that smirk on his face.
WinterSnow93 2 years ago
If you're going to address a dead person, doesn't matter who. You need to have more respect than that.
When Elvis Presley died, President Jimmy Carter's message to the nation was, "with Elvis Presley a part of our died as well." What do you think of that Mr. Wise guy??...
WinterSnow93 2 years ago
"our country..."
WinterSnow93 2 years ago
Of course there are serious issues out there in the world. They were there in the past, right now, and will always be there in the future. What have to You done to change the world? How have to better other people's lives around the world? What have You accomplished? What this One Man achieved is truely amazing. No not because he's A POP Icon. But because he did his best of what he was. He didn't sit around with his millions but used it to help people around the world.
WinterSnow93 2 years ago 2

Cathie8791 2 years ago 15
@Cathie8791, I agree with you. I was kind of disappointed in Obama statement. To me the statement made it seems like you was trying to down play Michael a little bit. Obama also seems to be like he was trying not to saying nothing because he don't want to come under fire for saying something about MJ. But, MJ was in fact innocent of all charges, so to hold him being innocent for the president not to make a powerful statement about him, is kind of shady. Oprah where is your statement?
CONCii3T3D 2 years ago 2
@Cathie8791 Obama is a House nigga (literally) that is afraid to acknowledge, represent or pay respect to anything Black, because he's afraid of the right wing pulpit. He distanced himself from his own preacher to appease them for crying out loud! MJ's hated by them because he's bigger than Elvis and OWNS the Beatles' catalog, both being the sacred cows of homogenized America. Smh....

Just because someone is a talented artist doesn't mean we should stop the rotation of the earth when he dies.
lovetron4 2 years ago
Actually Jackson is in the Guinness book of records for giving to charities. That places him above Oprah who had atleast as much if not more wealth than he does. I also don't think he wastes time having "guilt" over his fame, he could probably care less what petty minds that despise the rich thought about these matters. By the way, you shouldn't throw around criminal accusations unles you can actually prove them.
periechontology 2 years ago
Actually Oprah's given far more money to charity than Michael ever did. Oprah was the first & only black to make Business Week's list of America's greatest philanthropists. Jackson was listed by Guiness only in the pop star category.
