  • Have you seen the old man

    In the closed-down market

    Kicking up the paper,

    with his worn out shoes?

In his eyes you see no pride

And held loosely at his side

    Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news

  • So how can you tell me you're lonely, And say for you that the sun don't shine? Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind Have you seen the old girl Who walks the streets of London Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags? She's no time for talking, She just keeps right on walking Carrying her home in two carrier bags.
  • In the all night cafe At a quarter past eleven, Same old man is sitting there on his own Looking at the world Over the rim of his tea-cup, Each tea last an hour Then he wanders home alone And have you seen the old man Outside the seaman's mission Memory fading with The medal ribbons that he wears. In our winter city, The rain cries a little pity For one more forgotten hero And a world that doesn't care
  • Over two hundred artists have made covers of this song but I only love Sam's version.

  • Nice song

  • Very nicely done.

  • О! Неужто Сам?!!

  • So wonderful ! I love Sam Hui !

  • his english is perfect :O

could anyone explain to me how? :]

did he study it? or is he from an english speaking country?

  • @vipmonicake Sam studied in Hong Kong throughout his whole life. In an interview stated that Sam was very bad at English because he didn't know if he was pronouncing the word right, but one of his teachers at his High school taught him proper English. His early albums 1960-to early 70s, he only released English albums, not until 1974 he began releasing Canto Albums. He did a lot of tours in the 60s many in the US, where he met his wife. So his english improved a lot.

  • @SingaSong4416 ooh thanks! thats awesome, he sounds like a native speaker :]

  • I think when I heard Sam singing this version the first time was in 1976, that was before I came to Seattle, Wow! it's been more than 30 years just in an eye blink. I missed those 70's times in HK in my 20's. I missed Temple street... I missed my ex there...Looking back...with regrets....
