Yesterday was warm here in NY and the Northern Variety was singing like crazy. There is a lot of leaf litter so it was very difficult to find one. I was successful in capturing a specimen! Going to try to find a female and never saw a tadpole either!
@ariskk88 i do anyway.....if u go to the depths of the woods.............ull here a couple............i find them in the winter too...........but there r not many that peep then....i just got one today though....so they r more of the spring type frog........u dun know any way .........u dun live anywhere near me
@staffxsarge I wasn't saying the video was dumb, I was saying the guy that hears them every day is dumb since you can't hear them every day since they are only out during the spring. Other then that I have no idea what your even talking about?
Nice video!! Been searching five years admist a huge chorus and finally caught my first one! Went back to film them too. It helps to look for their distensible throat sacs. I have tried short peeping whistles with the little frog in captivity and he peeped back! He will actually match my speed and tempo. Will go tonight and try this experiment with them in the wild. Thanks for posting a very interesting video.
Its pretty amazing. They will call back to you even in the wild, matching your speed and tempo. Also they will start "peeping" if you call to them even before they start chorusing! Have not yet seen a mating pair or tadpoles. The lack of pond weeds makes them easy to spot where you are. Nice video!
Dont believe they live in our range. We have Spring peepers and Eastern Grey tree Frogs. Also heard bullfrogs and Fowlers toads at the same pond. I live in NY. The pond here has had trememdous floral growth after March. I was there yesterday and it appears the Peepers stopped calling now.
HI Brandon! I'm a preschool teacher and was so excited to find your video to show my kids at school. Thanks for the great video and for your sense of humor too!
Hi....you did a nice job....thank you. I was just out trying to find some peepers to show my 5-year old son...it was day time and we found none. We may try at night some time per your suggestion. Just a suggestion...you should get a head lamp and you would have both hand free. Take care...isn't God's creation amazing!!
Well you surely should believe in God....consider the order and complexity of the creatures you observe....would you ever consider saying your bicycle, home, shoes, etc. just ....."came to be"? No way....well same principal with what you observe in every creature you see. Seek Him while you're young...start with the Bible. Don't let the scripture be fulfilled in you that say's..."they worshipped the creature more than the Creator". Take care.
I used to believe, then I relized how much hate religion has brought upon us all. No one is a servent of god, other wise their would be no crime. Alquada thought that they were doing god's work by doing suicide bombings. If some people werent so dim witted, they would relize how much evidence is against the exsistance of god. Believing in god is just a way to make humans feel comfortable and make them feel that they are more important than the rest of the creatures. Evolution created us.
I went out this afternoon around 2 pm to shoot a video of them around a local pond. There were a few random peeps, but they were pretty inactive. I went out again at 6pm and they were peeping with abandon !
I hear the little fellas outside my window at night , huge chorus of them. I live in MA right near a pond: should I go looking for them there or elsewhere? Where do they like to hide?
They like to hide in tussocks of grass that are in and around water. The only good way to find them is by sound. Try calling with them to get close because it works.
Hey thanks! I am glad I could help you in anyway. They are really cool frogs. I always had trouble finding them but with some help from a friend, I could find them easily.
at my cottage we are surrounded by ponds and swamps and the noise by these guys are defining, no joke when you go outside in april you can't hear yourself think
What a great job! That was amazing! I live in NE PA and look forward every year to directing the peeper chorus. I've found that by whistling the right note I can get the males to "sing" with me!!
Well done. You should get a tripod and and set up then start taping the herps so theres no camera shake. It will dramatically increase the quality IMO and make the vids look more professional looking.
Awesome man. I have been having some fun over the weekend. I got two snakes! I do have footage but it will be awhile before I upload. Hope things begin to heat up your way.
I wanted to get out sometime this weekend, but I have no ride to get anywhere! It's horrible! lol Great footage too! I love hearing all those sounds at night.
Yeah that's what I usually do. But the only great place to herp around here is an hour car ride so thats a long time for a bike. It's still fun to just herp for the common things real close. Everything is something to me, even if its just a little American toad.
Awesome, Brandon! The spring peepers aren't calling yet at my place, but I went out last night and I did hear and find about 50 wood frogs. I just got batteries for my camera and I hope to get out tonight and film some.
How did you know those were leopard frog eggs?

Well these ditchs are full of weeds now. It was just early in the year. Calling back works well with Ornate Chorus Frogs to.
