I am white and I have always voted democrat because I have always felt that they represent Middle America more so than the GOP who still to this day, want to make the rich richer, and to hell with the largest population in this country. Powell was not critical of Palin's exprerience. He was critical because she has been a DISASTER ON THE NATIONAL STAGE. She was doing fine as a big fish in a small pond. My point is this: Blacks (although few could vote) supported the Republican party prior to the civil war. It wasn't until the democratic party began encompassing pro-black policies that blacks began voting democratic. So to argue against your previous point, no blacks have not always voted Democratic. The problem here is the assumption that a 50/50 split is more neutral. It could well be that a white Obama would get 70% of the white vote. You have show that the black positive response is greater than the white negative response.

I've called Colin Powell my hero for many years, ever since the Cold War and when I had the incredible honor of working with him in the military with the anti-missile defense shield along with Nancy Reagan and Senator Stevens I met them twice.
