  • learning their songs on guitar ruins them.. they're all the exact fucking same

  • @towella1 What the fuck are you going on about?

  • how would you like getting tortured for money??

  • Look up "To Darkness" by these guys....hmmmm?

  • @thecastillo24 They used part of that song in this one, and just added a couple of verses. I think they thought it would fit well.

  • @falconwideout7 makes sense since they said they wrote it soundcheck...which is freakin sick that they would play a song that they wrote day of the concert. Great song regardless

  • @thecastillo24 I completely agree. These guys are some of the best lyricists out there. Personally, they are my favorite band of all time.

  • fairly sure this is just a slightly different version of to darkness? Great song though! Just wish it was slightly better quality.

  • ♥♥♥♥

  • Hats off to you Marcus! Another broken string story to tell now! This song is amazing, the darkness and meaning of the lyrics is perfection... well done once again!!

  • This may be the epitome of true music with heart. Keep your Kesha, Beiber, and Guetta society; I'll keep my Mumford & Sons, Avett Brothers, and Neutral Milk Hotel. They don't need those synthesized beats and industrialized popularity, just give them a a couple instruments and stage to preform. I love it.

  • I LOVE this song SO much and my God is it where I am right now. Just NOT enough shots of Ben, damn it. All have such passion and love for what they do. Keep it up boys and stay real.

  • OMFG I AM IN LOVE!!!!!

  • by the way, this is an old version of the song To Darkness that they did.

  • @loganSchulman No... It's a brand new song. They just used parts of 'To Darkness'. They've done this with a couple other songs too.

  • this song talks about fighting the sin of lust. about constant temptation that's impossible to fight, and a man who knows where it will lead him...away from grace.

and no one who hasn't felt this will ever understand the song fully

  • @asf4321 oh... have you been jesus lately? cool beans.

  • The more I hear the song, the more I realize just how freaking awesome this song is.

  • ooooo i was at that concert!!!!!! perfection.

  • I bet he is thinking "Oh crap, not AGAIN" as he looks at his broken guitar string.

  • He broke his string at 3:50. That is called intense playing. Amazing.

  • Mumford and Sons, COME TO NEW YORK!!!

  • well this is intense, isn't it.

  • Every new song and they keep getting better and better.

    THEY ARE GIFTS FROM GOD!

  • I CANNOT FRICKEN WAIT TILL THEIR NEW ALBUM. I THINK IM GONNA EXPLODE

  • Pretty good song. In the same vain as their Sigh No More album. I was hoping their new work would not be a far departure from that album and only build on it.

  • Who is the one asshole that has to go and dislike everything

  • its got parts of To Darkness in it but its mostly its own song.

  • Comment removed

  • actually now that im rewatching this and heard him talk in the beginning about how they wrote this song during soundcheck this is some pretty god damn impressive sheet!

  • 1:44 harmonies off, a rarity, but he fixes it

  • ONLY A TRUE BEAST @ THE GUITAR CAN KEEP PLAYING WITOUT A STRING LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! AMAZING PLAYER AND SINGER AND BAND<3<3<3

  • this is the song i listen to when i'm mad, or just need say fuck it all

  • :24 weird laugh O_O.. possibly a fat chick being tickled...? idk...

  • so what if Marcus curses . I curse too, We are grown and it expresses how he feels.about some of his actions if he says he fucked it all up then so be it. I,m not the only one in this world who fucks things up and he is lovely singing about it! keeping on doing what you guys are doing I don't think any of your music is fucked up.but everyone messes up so you are commended for admitting it.

  • Awesome song!! speaks volumes about life as it is today!!

  • It's Into the Darkness revamp and made a little longer. But still SSOOOO AMAZING!!! AND STILL MAKES ME WANNA CRY!!! I don't know what I would do if this band didn't exist!

  • @krito11 yea they changed it "to darkness" but that was after this recording

  • isnt the song called TO DARKNESS ?

  • @krito11 Dont listen to baumannkatie, its not To Darkness. that was a song from a very old EP they made. this just combines a little piece of To Darkness with a much darker heavier beat and a new chorus. and a new verse.

  • @breakthechain100 thanks :)

  • If he keeps breaking strings, this song is going to get awfully expensive to play in concert.

  • 3:55 did he broke his string from the guitar?

  • love this song

  • Haha Are you kidding? Complaining about the cursing? If it's so lame, go listen to the Jonas brothers. These are adults, they have grown-up emotions to express. Sometimes shit isn't pretty.

  • @MrStringSavvy The best comment on any video I've seen in a while, well done my friend.

  • @MrStringSavvy My only issue with it is that I'm not sure I understand it's context. I get the general mood of the chorus, but I can't make any sense of the words use in this instance.

  • @Lydario To fuck something away seems to be a phrase meaning to mess something up or to do something half-assed, esp. due to apathy, but I'm not entirely sure

  • @eveliniscool That would make a lot of sense. A lot of their songs deal with the conflict of action in the midst of apathy... and the guilt and self-loathing that results.

  • @MrStringSavvy Amen

  • This song is mixed w/ the 'To Darkness' song of theres. I <3 it!

  • Broken guitar string

    3:50

  • I really think there's just one douche who goes around and dislikes all their songs just to mess with people. There is no other explanation.

  • @suthernator Maybe their finger slipped and the mouse hit the dislike button?

  • @LivingWellist I was brought up in a strict household. Ladies were not to curse under any circumstances if there was the slightest chance anyone might over hear them. Gentlemen were not to curse in front of ladies or children. Furthermore, they were not to use such words and phrases as punctuation, but only sparingly and only when no other words would accurately sum up the emotion and/or the situation. The word is used correctly and achingly well.

  • 3:50 Fuck it that strings not important.

  • but they might have changed the name.

  • it is to darkness

  • i swear this is to darkness?

  • thats be"cuss" they can and it really set the emotion of the song in alot of ways

  • this is the early to darkness, right?

  • Am I really the only one that thinks it's lame to find that they started using cuss words in their new music?

  • @LivingWellist probably :)

  • @LivingWellist curse stop with the cuss shit and grow up

  • @LivingWellist yeah, i think you are.

  • @LivingWellist It doesn't make the song any worse... If anything it adds more emotion. And that's what Mumford and Sons is really about.

  • @LivingWellist they 'cuss' in little lion man?

  • @LivingWellist curse words are rather prominent in some of their other work. Little Lion Man for example. They are grown men with emotions and sometimes grown ups express those emotions with harsh language. I don't think it's anything to find lame as it is not being done because they are ignorant or too uneducated to use more polite language. The curse words are a conscious choice and necessary to properly express the emotions that caused them to write this song.

  • @LivingWellist I could be wrong on this, but I recall hearing a story about how when they wrote "Little Lion Man," the record company (or someone) asked them to find an alternative for the word "fuck" in the song to make it more radio-friendly, and after playing around with different words, they insisted on not replacing it because nothing expressed the emotion they wanted to convey in quite the same way. That's poetry: thoughtfully choosing every word for its emotion, "cuss word" or not.

  • 7 MORE DAYS!!!

  • Screw it I dont need that string

  • speechless....jao ubija me

  • 3:54, he's all like "FUCK THIS STRING."

  • When he sings, "fuck it all away" I start to daydream about them. I am so down, Mr. Marcus.

  • @fxxkfayce ditto.

  • Augh, when that drum beat kicks in. I was front row at one of their concerts, they were literally like 3 meters away from me. Best experience of my life. I need to see them again.

  • I just love the passion and energy! They give this music everything they have!

  • holy. shit. the pure anger in this just blew my mind, and just the way he screams "fuck it all away" sends shivers up my spine. well done once again, mumford & sons.

  • Never mind, same lyrics at certain spots, but quite a different song as a whole.

  • Isn't this called 'To Darkness' now?

  • This song should be called broken string... ;)

  • I love how he shows real emotion while singing. In "lover's eyes" almost starts crying near the end, while in "broken crown" you can tell it genuinely makes him angry. I like musicians who play music that actually matters to them.

  • I love how the guitar string breaks at 3:53. Hardcore passion in that playing.

  • wasn't this song eventually named to darkness?

  • @baumannkatie22 no its a different song it just has the one part from to darkness in it

  • what an appropriate time for the string to break

  • he played the hell out of that guitar before his string popped!

  • I love you, Marcus.

  • is this not called 'to darkness/kripa' and done with indian instrument band too ??

  • with this song i have just realised that EVERY single person who enjoys listening to Mumford and his gorgeous Sons must be wonderfully beautiful

  • Dear Mumford and Sons, can you please release, like, a million songs RIGHT NOW? That would be the best thing ever... because I just can't wait!!!! :)

  • I think part of whats makes them great is the fact that every song they play is just wonderfully arranged, they dont try to sell their song on a particular hook or just one section of the music. They have high energy feet stomping portions right after some gentle beautiful slow parts. It just draws you in and makes you feel the music

  • @Headhunter025 Agreed, the pacing and volume transitions have a lot to do with their success I think.

  • Does anyone know where I can find these songs in high quality?

  • @BSpade1688 when the album comes out.

  • Every song they write is just amazing!

Can't wait till there next album!

  • Love their music, but I feel like I am standing in line for confession behind someone who is a bit deaf. The worst part is I keep thinking, "Dang! I need to add that too!"

  • @ProfessionalWidow83 Absolutely. I believe he is speaking of God as well as the devil. Many of his songs are laden with scriptural references.

  • the ways he plays the guitar is sexy.

  • Picture a man wrought with sin, this poor man, deceived and depleted becomes desperate; desperate for God, and desperate to be freed from the chains that seem to bind him. Bruised and battered this man becomes furious at himself and furious at the thought of redemption after so many failures. He is forgiven yet feels so disgusted by himself and his actions, he wants nothing to do with the grace he feels he could never deserve. Fuck the road away or not, God forgives and makes all things new.

  • @Organic4902 So he's singing about God?

  • @Organic4902 I am that man

  • @Organic4902 my favorite comment on youtube i needed that

  • lets find who disliked this song and kick his ass

  • @wasjoel xDD

  • This song is so amasing even Chuck Norris cries...

  • This is proof that Mumford and sons is the greatest band of the millenium!!

  • why are these men so amazing? their souls just pour from their voices and fingers.

  • If you like this band, check out "Mumford & Pals!"

  • breaking strings, that's fucking sexy.

  • what am I witnessing? Also, that shot of Ben was totally not needed.

  • Wow. How do they write a song this deep 3 hours before at sound check?? That's absolutely amazing.

  • I love that they can just write a new song at song check. That kind of spontaneity true musicianship. <3 mumford & sons

  • i can't tell where the avett brothers stop and these guys begin

  • Looks like ONE PERSON accidentally hit the "Dislike" button.

  • "we think its called 'broken crown'"...i love theses men!

ps :20 sums up how i feel about them :D

  • new favourite mumford & sons song

  • so epic even the guitar can't handle it! <3

  • i love how he introduces all the new songs like '' this may be crap, but if we f- up, whatever.'' ILOVEUMARCUS,WINNIE,TEDDY,BENNIE!!

  • I'm in LOVE.. Such a fan cant believe this is the first time Ive heard this... I almost cried.. Cant wait to see them in concert.

  • They complete my life. They're just just awesome.

  • true only crowns that exist are here on earth not above everything pure with out the jewels .

  • Its like an expansion of To Darkness, they just improved To Darkness by building a new song around it and changing the name :P

  • Is there parts from to darkness in this?? Why could they not just write new words for this?

  • The epic string break at the end makes it even better!

  • Soulful.... just the right mix of harrowing lyric, traditional sounding folkishness and tempo.... Need to find these guys on disc/mp3... becoming a new favorite!

  • and that's how it's done my friends.. Boo-ya

  • Finally a song that describe exactly what's at stake when we are forced to make a moral decision. "In this twilight our choices seal our fate," because behaving morally requires that we wear a "broken crown," a crown of thorns.

  • Mumford and Sons are my favorite band, always have been, always will be, and this song is so catchy, so elegant, and meaningful. One word. Heaven

  • Mumford and Sons are the only people who can make my heart sigh and my toes curl. XD

  • time for another record...:) amazing:)

  • To Darkness :D

  • who needs porn when you can jizz from this?

  • I hope they record this for the record...I like this a lot more than To Darkness. There's so much more emotion.

  • I wonder if the section from 'To Darkness' is only temporary so that they could play the incomplete song on tour, and get some feedback / response?

  • I respect them so much because they use REAL words for their lyrics... but I also love it when they spark the F bomb!! The F bomb seems much more fancy coming from English fellows haha

  • i always thought this song was called to darkness because you can find the non live version if you type To darkness by them

  • 0:00 through 0:10 is such a Dylan moment.

  • not even satan could hate something so good

  • great song, love how he uses the F-Bomb

  • *please* record this!!

  • This song is called "To Darkness" ????? And it's most certainly not new

  • @S0mara uh actually this is new because they added a part of to darkness into the song but most of the lyrics newly written and yes it isnt new new because if you look it was uploaded a year ago.

  • @S0mara it isnt to darkness. if they say its Broken Crown then it probably is :P

  • @S0mara oh wait... ur actually right...

  • @S0mara its another version though...

  • @S0mara it sounds a but like it , i think maybe it is to darkness but in its opening stages , although the begining and ending are different , maybe to darkness morphed out of this , who knows ;)

  • isn´t the song called to darkness?

  • One dislike!? wanker.

  • No dislikes, I LIKE!

  • Comment removed

  • this song gives me goosebumps every. time. especially when the horns come in.

  • amazing amazing amazing, what else can i say

  • So I have not listened to anything other than Mumford and Sons since I discovered them..nothing else satisfies my need for music anymore..

  • Where can I get this music? Do I have to buy a CD because I haven't seen any besides the Little Lion Man album on Rhapsody or iTunes (since I last checked on iTunes)

  • @BFraunch You can't buy it anywhere. (Some tracks are found on record B tracks though) They have officially written about 3/4 times the amount of songs that are on Sigh No More, but they seem happy to play them live and not record them.

  • Thats right nobody better dislike it :)

  • Why are British people so amazing at dropping the F bomb? Jealous

  • I get so annoyed w/ the idiots who cheer simply b/c somebody says "fuck" or "shit" or whatever. How ridiculously immature...

  • everytime I listened to The Darkness i thought "this songs amazing, i just wish it was longer" and my wish came true! this is such a breath taking songs, they're so amazing!

  • Thought it was odd that when he said it could be shit everyone cheered. I think he did to.

  • Marcus you're too good for the f word!
