  • Rest in Peace: Clare Fischer.

  • Nos pareció lo mas 'lindo' del disco, un descanso después de todo lo anterior, pero todavía sin conectarlo con Clare Fischer.

  • Great tune.

  • R.I.P. Clare Fischer

  • awesome piano solo; fiery!

  • What key is this in?

  • @saxxman07 Gb, modulates to C for the Bridge and then back to Gb. This song is one of the longest songs I know, it has like 66 bar form and a vamp at the end during the head out.

  • @iambrownizzle @saxxman07

Actually, it's 64; just the standard AABA w/ 16-bar sections instead of 8.

  • @dvdspd21 Yup, long long form.

  • @iambrownizzle

BTW, form notwithstanding, if u want 2 check out a very imaginative & wildly contrasting arrangement by the composer himself, utterly distinct from both Hubbard's & his own earlier recordings, I've just uploaded Fischer's 1993 arrangement, performed by himself & Terry Trotter.

  • I first started listen to jazz in college and this is one of the groups that lit me up! Love the Jazz Messengers still.

  • This is why I love life

  • I learned this tune as a youngster playing in my uncle’s jazz band (may God rest his wonderful soul) and years later I heard this recorded version which reminded me of the joy I felt every time we played it. The tune has such an uplifting feel and buoyancy to it that you just can’t help but fall in love with it.

  • In Los Angeles, the ONLY Jazz station was KBCA 105.1. The greatest DJ's were at that station including Tommy Bee, Jai Rich, Rick Holmes, Chuck Niles, etc. They played this tune many times, A true classic with a classic lineup. Never get tired of it. Blakey's little comments during the tune just kill me!

  • JAZZ RULES!!

  • Hello Meri and Audberto on your 1st wedding anniversary!

  • this brings tears to my eyes!! i was a young, single, jazz-loving girl in NYC at this time and loved these guys and the tune - and still do!!! that album is a classic and of course i have it.

  • @ValB222 Same here, when I was alittle girl growing up in NYC my parents played this all the time. They are both gone now and i watch videos of me and my parents dancing to this. I love this song.

  • I pricked my ears up,it was coming from the jazz station on SKY TV here in Auckland NZ,I felt inspired, thats jazz in the tradition, gotta be Freddie on trumpet, tone and phrasing sound familiar!!Might be bit long to write lyrics to?If Mark Murphy can put a lyric to "St Thomas"why not,I can hear it.

  • I transcribed Freddie's solo on this and learned a lot. Dude's a beast! I love how by the end of his solo he's clowning around with syncopation and everyone in the group knows it. (3:02) these guys loved playing together.

  • @djkcel freddie='influential'

  • I can listen to this all day long and never get tired of it. I know I can because I've done it often! This entire album is one of those that is probably on it's last legs because I've played it so much. Thank the fates that they sell more copies! I'd be hard to get along with without my dose of "Free For All!

  • Reminds me of the good life. My brother in law has this. I used to listen to him play it in his garage when I was a young girl. How can one not like this! Beautiful and thanks for the upload. : )

  • FABULOUS thanks
