  • as a kid growimg up watching the flinstones, im glad i didnt pick up fred's cigarette.

  • Now thats awesome! My favourite cartoon characters smoking and saying its good, and with a bit of sexism!

  • Friggin Women, always working on the weekend and trying to make Guys look bad for relaxing on their only day off. Why couldn't they do this while the Husband was at work so they could ALL relax on Sunday. Nope, they WANT to cause a ruckus and ruin a day off for the guys every chance they get. BEACHES… Hahaha

  • Everybody dies of cancer. We are born terminal. What does it matter which cancer you die from. Live free and die hard.

  • haha! I hold this commercial responsible for every known evil in America today!

  • the flintstones wasn't for kids only, it's what you'd consider family entertainment nowadays lol

  • Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

  • they smoked but the smart ones DIDN'T INHALE ---it's when you INHALE that when you get very addicted

  • right population control PLEASE-from an ad for smokes, yea. Not like the govt doesnt try to kill and harm all the people NOW or anything, after all the FDA can be SO trusted, right? Hell they want cancer NOW more than then, they sell us drugs that hurt us,food thats added with narmful stuff TO cause illnesses and chronic problems, yeah but a cartoon, now that was BAD

  • they did smoke in the cartoons at first, actually. And Id love to see an ad like this these days, because regardless of health risks, smoking IS still legal and alright, and a choice, and it doesnt matter whether a cartoon advertises it,it is illegal for children anyhow, adults can do as they wish and TV and ads should go with that freedom, freedom of advertising freedom of speech, whered it go??

  • everyone.... stop being such a pussy.... smoking is bad for you, but dont be a know-it-all about it. let people smoke. its the american way of life. clint eastwood smoked, so did rod sterling, al pacino...

  • lol i thought this was a joke at first

  • Say what you will but half a century or more later we are still getting advertised my winston...smart

  • Typical lazy good for nothin' sh@t men (flinstones). Kids saw them smoking back then? That's aweful to show those guys smoking and promoting it. Shocked to see it. I used to love The Flintstones too... : (

  • @ladybluluv I thought it was regular cartoons, but if ya look through the comments, Flintstones was the Simpson's of it's time.. Hell, thousands of doctors encouraged smoking back then as well. Funny how times change..

  • @ladybluluv i think its fair to say that this commecrial was made before the show was fully developed and before it was kid friendly, when it got to where it was as a kids show, i think they dropped the whole adult theme stuff...give the show a break, it was just starting out and finding out what audience to potray itself too

  • ah women work while men sit and relax, those were the days

  • Man i hate to see them work so hard....Lets go out back So we dont have to see them!

  • past betty beating out the carpet dust, watch wilma flintstone successfully performing a "man's job" mowing the lawn (push mowers suck!), while the lazy husbands smoke away their weekend afternoon.

  • "momi...where are daddy's cigarettes?"

  • fuck me, I'd love to see this kind of shit nowadays :D Hahah...

  • just so yall know...flinstone use to be the family guy of the 50's

    p.s.-kind of sexist :|...kinda!

  • @omgwhatafag The show ran from 1960 to 1966.

  • wow O_O

  • wow good comerical if you wanted a kid to smoke

  • HAHAHA it tastes good like a cigarette SHOULD, omg!!! How many people actually smoke today, probrably dramatically low from back then. I guess Fred didnt live in the lung cancer age

  • Wow. That's sad.

  • Was there a video clip of Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm smoking weed as teenagers?

  • Betty must have been a Virginia Slims kind of woman.

  • Betty was on the pipe.

  • I love how Betty and Wilma just stop near the end and look at each other, wondering what the heck they are talking about while they have the nerve to have a smoke in front of them, not to mention while the are relaxing while Betty and Wilma are doing all the work. HA!

  • OH MY GOD

  • Heck, the complaints people have about ads and product placement nowadays! They used to call the Jack Benny show the Lucky Strike program, and the 'Richard Diamond' detective show even wrote the advertisers/sponsors product into a script or two!!

  • no wonder how many people got addicted to cigarettes cause of this

  • They used to show Samantha Stevens from Bewitched smoking a cigarette and drinking a martini when she was 9 months pregnant with Tabitha.

  • And Pebbles was a crack whore.

  • wonder where they can find a super high tech lighter from in stone age. Though they will use stone or burning wood stick to light the cigaret

  • when the Flintstones first came out it was an adult-like cartoon. like the Simpsons or Family Guy, so i wasn't a big deal that they had this commercial

  • Flintstones were the Simpsons of the 50s and 60s. Hmmm I wonder what would happen if one of their sponsors was for an alcohol company?

  • como que me dieron ganas de fumar XDXD

  • Wow!!! I haven't had a cigarette since 1992, but Barney's description of a Winston in this ad makes me want to light up again! Interesting how none of them ever smoked in the actual show.

  • I believe its because that if the creaters wanted to show them smoking, that they would want to do so AND get paid for it. Besides, I seem to recall instances when our boys were offered cigars and smoked them, such as from Fred's boss from time to time when he needed a favor from Fred. If that didn't work though he just threatened to fire him of course. Heh!

  • wow are you serious??? lol

  • lmao i love this

  • Bam, sells to kids.

    Good job cartoons, you fail.

  • Hahaha - they didn't want to help their wives, but rather go hide and smoke a cig.

  • No wonder we thought smoking was cool back then. Fred and Barney were having a good 'ole time...but Wilma, too?

Wonder what Betty was doing? Making a liquor run, I guess...

  • lol?! what the fuck!? xD

  • wow.. now i see why that generation smoked! i'm gonna tell my momma to sue hanna and barbera!

  • Yea, now they're taxing us to breathe.

  • Yes, I'm so friggin relieved that the 1960's are over now, and that the Liberal movement has come around enough to determine what is good for all of us.

    - Now that they have the cigarette companies on the run- all we have to worry about now is the Poisoning of the drinking water from pharmaceuticals that are Flushed down the drain by the tons -No wonder every other child is born with chromosome damage, or with a third chromosome- Blame the corporations, -not the cartoon.

  • Imagine seeing Fred and Barney years later wearing breathing aparatuses on their faces and wheeling oxygen tanks behind them

oh yes I almost forgot! and having to use those computer voicebox devices to speak.

  • COOL! why people don't do the same

  • Them's is good tasting fasting acting Cancer Sticks. Yumm. Good. But Mr.Slate smoked the BETTER stuff -- cigars.

This commercial is what you'd call American long-term population control, circa 1960. Gad, people are SOOO gullible.

  • ah, the good ol' days....

  • SD 2010!

  • I Have no willpower whatsoever.Fred and Barney knocked me off the smoking wagon. Now i have a light head.

  • updaate fred died of cancer, wilma is now on an oxogen tank and has emphazima barney has had a lung removed thats what realy happens when you smoke

  • You forgot to mention that Pepples is born mental retarded and that Bamm-Bamm is asthmatic. :-(

  • @JohannaGotTalent41 What about Betty? What happened to her as a result of her smoking? lol.

  • If you didn't smoke back then people thought you were abnormal. Everybody smoked (and eventually croaked!)

  • Drug Pushing for the weapon of mass destruction known as tobacco. The tobacco pushers should be prosecuted for murder and genocide of the human race!

  • omg, thats when people didnt know cigarrettes were bad for you. but people didnt smoke as much back then. ull never see a commercial promoting smokes in this day and age only downsizing them.

  • omfg kids watched the flinstones back then

  • That was just funny XD

  • This cartoon was made in the 60s.

  • you're right, it started in September of 1960

  • Ha Ha wilma smoking

  • rofl this was banned classic!

  • 私はアメリカ人は嫌いだ。そして、これらの愚かなコメント。

  • LOL

  • LOL. That was so wrong.

  • Those kids didn't stand a chance!,.. lol

  • Wow just wow

  • It's hilarious but ridiculous. What?!

  • this is sooo wrong. that is soooo bad my world is falling apart!!!!!!!!!

  • The smokes are one thing, but the fact that they want to hide so they can't see their wives work is ridiculous!!!

  • It wasn't that serious back then cause the show was still aimed at adults at that time. It wasn't on Saturday mornings or anything it was like that era's Family Guy. They started toning it down when the realized kids had started watching it.

  • 60's not 50's flinstones first time on tv was 1960

  • i dunno though, they seem more like the camal type rather than winston. i mean, u think of winston, u think of saphisticated 50's business man, but camal is more prehistoric, u know, animal like. cuz a camal is an animal. hmm. i made myself sound dumb.

  • what!?!?! the flinstones...s-s-s-smoking? rocks back and fourth hugging knees, i can never watch them the same!

  • Ya just need to keep in mind the culture at the time. TV was relativly new and certian broadcasting laws prohibiting certian scenes and commercials to be aired had not been created. Nowadays you hardly see any kind of commercials for cigarettes. Which in my opinion is a good thing.

  • yes!!!

  • the flintstones rocked

  • AAAAahhhhhhh! My world is ruined!

  • NOOOOO!!!

    They got the Flintstones hooked!

    This is HORRIBLE!

  • OMG!! winston!? this is very weird O_O the flintstones NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • O_O

THEY SMOKE?!?! *gasp* And Barney was my IDOL!!?!? TT^TT

  • The lawnmover is fucked up

    ruined my life :)

  • The Flintstones was originally aimed at adults. Still, Seeing this commercial is a bit freaky.

  • I'm glad they don't have commercials for cigarettes anymore. What WONDERFUL examples they set for the children back then...

Mabey that's why my grandparents smoke.

  • "The Flintstones" was originally aimed at adults.

  • Wow... i didnt know they SMOKED!!

  • That's nothing. They snorted coke in the 60s.

  • well, if the flinstones say is ok.....

  • why do i suddenly feel like i wanna start smoking ?

  • This just doesn't seem real. I can't believe the tobacco companies had such power back then...

  • For the 2,393,384th time, "The Flintstones" was originally aimed at adults, Hence the huge amount of Pop Culture references the show contained.

  • haha

  • Ah, the 50's. America's huge picture-day zit.

  • This commercial is from the 60's, Not 50's.

  • Oh my god. Amazing.

  • lol lets go round back where we cant see em

  • wow, fat guys with 5 oclock shadow, sleevless shirts, and cigarettes watching their wives work, nothing wrong there...

  • I like that lawn mower Wilma is using. It's powered by a grass eating dinosaur with teeth. Did dinosaurs even have teeth? I thought the tyrannosaurs were plant eaters.

  • you're a dumbfuck

  • Oh...my...god...

  • Damn, I've never seen cigarettes advertised on TV. When did they stop doing that, I wonder? I don't remember any cigarette commercials from when I was a kid(in the 80's)

  • It's from the 60's, Not 50's. It's easy to forget that "The Flintstones" was originally aimed at adults.

  • You are correct- it came out in 1962 according to TV Land.

  • that is awesome, 5 stars

  • poisoning the childrens minds

  • The FCC banned Cigarette ads after January 1, 1971. My bro-in-law says the college bowl games over those last days were just packed with cigarette ads.

Don't worry, Phandral; the cereals bearing the Flintstones name aren't much healthier than the cigarettes...

  • They also aired numerous cigarette ads in succession on just about every channel on TV in the last minutes of Jan. 1, 1971.

  • Now they've been relegated to cereal commercials. The Flintstones have certainly fell on some hard times!

  • that's awesome

  • Because, 'reset', R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. [the makers of Winston] co-sponsored "THE FLINTSTONES" during its first two seasons on ABC (1960-'62). And Fred [and sometimes, Barney] usually delivered a "comedy" commercial/plug for the sponsor at the end of the epsiodes sponsored by Winston. Note the sponsor I.D. at the end....

  • Now.... why would they advertise cigarettes on a cartoon?

  • Because when this cartoon aired, It wasn't for kids. The Flintstones aired in prime time for adults, so naturally they'd pander to adults. They were the animated answer to the hugely successful "Honeymooners" with Jackie Gleason.

  • Oh, I keep forgetting that cartoons started off as an adult thing. I was raised in the Voltron days. Let's see some smokin' Voltron advertisements!

  • o my! XD lmao

  • if they aired that today.. man they would get sued sooo bad

  • Wow, you would never see anything like that these day's.

  • actually it's from 1961
