man love this film.i know vietnam is a sore topic, even to this day but this film was great.the duke was awesome as usual and loved aldo ray's character.that was a tough guy.aldo ray was in another great war film called the naked and the dead,in which he was brutal in.green berets also featured 2 awesome tv series actors jack soo from barney miller and of course george takei from star trek.
@ANDREAILB or just harmless action movie set in vietnam, people enjoy that stuff you know, thats why we watch weseters, Id watch it to see the C-47 Spooky Gunship AKA Puf the Magic Dragon Scene
The Green Berets were a torture squad sent to Vietnam in a futile but brutal effort to prevent Ho Chi Minh taking over. Intelligence assessments suggested that if elections were held to determine who would control a unified Vietnam when the North and South occupied zones were reunited -- as agreed between the USA and the USSR -- Ho Chi Minh would win around three-quarters of the vote.
So much for supporting democracy. The Green Berets set about murdering and torturing supporters of Ho Chi Minh
Green berets was just a poorly made patriotic propaganda movie. Propaganda not always bad, people need positive values, even if somebody has to show them. Not this vile demoralizing crap hollywood usually mass produces.
He desperatally wanted to entlist but he was too old for the draft he was 34 when the war broke out, and had a family so he was exempted from service. His family often has said the reason Wayne became the Post-War Superpatriot is because he couldn't fight in the war
Larrry Thone was a finnish sodier who fought against the russians in the winter war and again in the continiotuation war in ww2.. He earned the Mannerheim Cross ( (Congressional medal of honor) He signed up to the U.S. Army after he had served in Waffen- SS. , He is considered as a legend in "green berets" Siiver r star, 2 purple hearts. He was MIA till they found his remains and was promoted Major after his death.John Wayne presents him in the movie. Orig. name: Lauri Torni.
For all you naysayers, My father was a marine in WWII. I grew up singing this song, him instilling the Spirit of America in me. Too bad some miss that today. John Wayne did more for the American Spirit when it was needed than anyone. Too bad we don't have a hero like him today..even if it is only in the movies.
the saddest thing about this movie is that the vietnam portrayed here existed only in HOLLYWOOD. for example, at the end of the movie it shows John Wayne talking with the little boy about the death of Peterson and the sun is SETTING INTO THE SOUTH CHINA SEA. if anyone knows anything about the GEOGRAPHY of vietnam then you will understand this POINT.
They used 3 times more ammo in this than any other war movie the attack on the fort was supposed to be something like the tet offensive an all out attack on all fronts
@DivinedAnarchy chuck norris wasnt acting yet he was wiinning karate championships then jim hutton wasnt the con man he was a scrounger that found supplies when they were in short supply david jansen plays a reprter that doent believe in the vietnam war
@DancingSpiderman george takei wasnt happy with the politics of this film but if an actor waited for a movie he was perfectly in agreement with he wouldnt work a movie isnt like makeing a painting where you do what you want theres all these differant people and they have to give stunt men something to do there were fight scenes in star trek .

If John Wayne was so good it's a pity he was to yellow to enlist in WW2.

This movie is funny because it was filmed somewhere that looks absolutely nothing like Vietnam.

"The Green Berets" was good, but let's face it, it was no "Tropic Thunder".

Michael Herr said "The Green Berets" wasn't a movie about Vietnam, it was about Santa Monica.
