They totally ruined Akuma in SF IV. From SF II to the Alpha series and SF III, he was an offensive beast! In this all you see is fireball spam and zoning.
the akuma(gouki) player bitched out at the end there. it makes it rather obvious that the ken player was better and he got scared he would lose. so he played keep away for the W. & know what people will say 'a W is a W' but i still think u value the hard wins more. i hope SSF4 restores ken's dodge roll so he can atleast be same tier as ryu. & 4 the love God can we bring down the priority rank on zangeif... FUCK!!!
good to see some more Ken video's. I haven't seen any of him at the American SF4 events that have passed...Devestation, EVO 2009, Gamestop 2009, WestCoast WarZone so for me it was nice to see
Hey DirEnGay, you must not forget the individuals who do NOT spam specials but simply button mash. There is no telling what will come out of that mashing arsenal.
Never mind that, I liked how the Gouki player made a comeback after that poor first round performance.
nah there are situations where u should wake-up shoryuken even amongst pros. but it's risky and is bit of a guess-game. There are safer alternatives with lesser profit made.
it's the ONLY thing that makes him remotely playable.
Hadouken - not that great, but it's all he has for ranged.
Step Kick - annoying, but not a threat.
Tatsu - unsafe on block, sets up a guessing game rather than knocking down.
Shoryu - jab is crap, MP beats almost everything, HP is alright.
He has a couple of good pokes and a long throw range; super/ultra have garbage range, and can't get full ultra outside of EX meter/focus. he can't turtle as well as more favorable peeps, which hurts him.
His ultra is garbage I'll admit it. And I though the same thing you did... But you can Kara basically EVERYTHING with Ken. Plus his EX Tatsu is grat for cross ups on DP characters. He's viable. Not top 7 character viable. But viable none the less.
By round 2 the Gouki player started playing a typical game. Realised he couldn't really win face to face and had a tactical approach.
The funny thing I've found online is against pro's I can play at a pro level, doing combo's, kara throws, pokes, distancing, anything but when you fight against a noob you have to throw all of your knowledge out of the window and adopt a simple, block counter approach. Noobs spam heavy specials constantly and playing a pro strategy never works against them. Funny
that's a cop out. playing at a pro level is essentially about being able to adapt to your opponent. you can't play the same strategy against every player. you don't fight bison the same way you fight blanka, and you wouldn't fight daigo the same way you would seth rodriguez or any other player. it's great that you can execute the intricacies of the game, but it means nothing if you can't adapt to the player across from you.
Couldn't agree more, you seem to have misunderstood me though. What I meant originally was that I enjoy taking full advantage of everything in a fight. Grabs, combos, pokes, mindgames, distancing, etc, etc, but pro level fight usually revolves around the same ideas being had on both sides. Sure you MUST adapt, I spend a lot of time reading my opponent even to the point of almost losing a round but noobs don't care to learn. They will special move spam nonstop and only option is to block counter.
I still haven't really made my point here, I'll focus more on the noob subject.
What I mean is that noobs will special, special, special, special, special until either your health or theirs is gone.
Whether you want to just plain win or show them that the game can be fun by spending time to learn more than down-to-forward+punch, the fact is you can't even get close enough to try doing anything other than block the shoryuken and counter it with your own or a grab or at most a Small 2-3 hit combo
I don't know why but I feel guilty beating noobs by doing a simple block counter and about 1/3 of them send an angry message to my inbox because they clearly thought they were pro at the game.
I can't help feeling bad by beating somebody on the fact that they leave me no option but to spam a counter move for 2 whole rounds. I always want to give my all in every fight, the game online consists now of 90% players picking Ryu and doing light shoryuken, crossup low LK, hadoken spam. It's boring no?
I don't know why you have 2 negative votes but I do agree with throwing your skills out the window when fighting noobs.
That's why Online play sucks penis. I prefer to go to a local Arcade spot and use my real talents instead of fighting a douchebag that jumps and kicks all day.
You do find some gems after sifting through the pile of shit online players sometimes though, especially now with Championship mode as you can only fight people in your block but even so, sometimes noobs can get through to your block with terrible strategies that just suck all the life out of the game.
Lag makes a huge difference online though, if it's remotely laggy it's almost impossible perform 3-4 pokes into a super, you have to adopt a safer strategy of 1 poke to super and EX-cancel more.
to bad Ken is one of the worst characters in SFIV. His not classified as one of the dominating characters this time round. im still waiting for a pro to shine at ken
mid tier isn't bad he's still completely usable. His kara throw is insane and his poke mk is arguably one of the best in the game. his mp hp uppercut super does huge dmg exs blah.
the only game he was top tier in was 3rd strike, i think. other than that it's almost the same ken from SFII. he's still good, you just need to be better to use him than ryu.
yes im pretty sure it was, good spotting :) im trying to figure out what gouken can use to kara throw, but so far i havnt figured anything out. any ideas?
basically, when the oponet sees the first few frames of animation of the roundhouse kick, he will predict the attack and try to block it. but really hes going for the throw, so because he tried to block the kick, he will be vulnerable to the throw.
MY HADOKEN BETTER THAN YOUR HADOKEN!! >:)

His Roundhouse(Standing Fiercekick) Only makes him move slightly more so its pretty pointless...

not really cos the animation of his kick will guarantee a block and not a throw escape
