He was a one year wonder; the thing is, if you want to be a legend in The Biz, you've got to do it over a period of YEARS. Mr. Nevil, didn't, and that's sad.
ahhh the cassette days, and the music scene is waaaay too commercialized, look at Pat Benatar they tried to make her into something she was not and she quit...still going to this day...Robbie had a unique sound ....
Why wasn't she 'all dressed in red' in the video? Love the song, but that just seemed off to me. Also thought the guy with the parrot hair-do was awesome!
omg. is there a not more perfect video to represent the 80's. lip sinking, dated clothes (where are the skinny ties?) and the most important element??? a tunes that is stuck in your head till the end of the week! i doubt this rift could be pulled off today. probably turned into a rap song if it was. sorry kids, mom wont let u have this much sugar. put your helmets back on and use hand sanitizer before you eat.
Thanks to all who have replied to me. I'm glad to learn that this track did well in the US. In the UK Chart it peaked at a mere #43!
Why wasn't Robbie more successful as a solo artist? It still baffles me little. But some people have suggested he could have taken more care over his image and I kind of agree with that. I've seen clips of his "live" appearences and he seems not so charismatic as we see him in this video. I can't help feeling maybe he was too shy to be a pop star...?
Hey, that was the first song (back in the days when I started listening music at all) that I really loved. Bought the album some years later when I had my fist money - and I love this album and nearly all songs of it still today. Just great songwriting and singing !
@ganubby you know, now that you mention it, I detect a little of Kenny's voice in Robbie's too. Robbie's favorties for me were "Wot's It To Ya" and "C'est La Vie" and my favorite from Kenny's was "Danger Zone."
@DaveWollenberg Cool at least we know it hit the top 10. This is a song I wish they still played from Robbie...all of his hits seem to have been forgotten, even for retro weekend, his songs have not been played. And he did have a few for 1987 and again in 1991 I believe.
Fun video, fun song. I actually just got a Jeremy Jordan tape at a thrift store that contained some RN songs so that's why I looked him up. Until today, the only RN song I knew was C'est La Vie.
@africkinamerican Yeah I forgot Nevil had written for Jordan. Both artists, ubelievably HOT(Jeremy still is to this day) I have his album "Try My Love" but honestly the only tune off there I remember is "The Right Kind of Love" sometimes I wished it were me he were singing it too!
@oliversgirl2009 yeah not exactly. That's where VH1 was dead wrong! Way off on that one(and several others artists of the time as well) there was this one, Dominoes, C'est La Vie and For Your Mind. That's not 1 hit ppl!(I think these people need to go back to school and get their fucking facts straight before they broadcast this stuff, you can't give out faulty info)
I have to admit, The girl with the dark hair playing the tambores is a devilistically hot babe!!!!! And no, she's not Daphnie Zuniga!!!! This girl is hotter!!!!

@bmrocks59 Me too! even a comeback tour would be nice , with some other groups or artist from the 80's ,cause I feel like we got cheated out of a lot of his music ,
@spitts63 I know he's produced and written for other aristis coz I checked out a website for his music, and he also produced music for the High School Musical movies(Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale) So at least I'm happy he still exists today doing something in the music business, though wouldn't hurt to see him do vocals again too. he's 49 today btw
absolutely, love the first 2 the best, the third is good but the first 2 are amazing, all great songs, can't believe how truly talented this guy is, i sure wish he'd would come out with something else... soon..
Completely agree with you! I only thought he had 3 songs, honestly, not enough air play, lousy management?? not sure, but love his music now and just ordered all 3 of his CDs.. want to hear more of him...
@mirage123451 Yeah he had all the makings of a great pop artist. Really catchy pop tunes. And I love this title. It's my theme song to all the nozy fucks of the world who really don't need to know jack that don't concern them. my aunt says the same thing! At least we know Robbie soldiered on as producer to the HSM movies, which of course were famous
Hilarious....Gives new meaning to the term "trashy" entertainment! The funny thing though, is that the music really isn't trashy at all - it still sounds great, 20+ years later.
This is one of the songs that stayed with me through the years, I don't know why but I love it love it! The video is classic 80's cheese which makes its so much better.
Robbiel has been producing and writing for other artists. He co-wrote three songs on the High School Musical soundtrack: "The Start of Something New", "We're All In This Together" and "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You." He co-wrote the theme song to Hannah Montana, "The Best of Both Worlds", and co-wrote three other songs that appear on the Hannah Montana soundtrack album. He's written tracks on the first four Hilary Duff's albums, too.
Mr.High School Musical 2 co-writer for "I Don't Dance" really funky.I talked to him in the 80's when I worked for the label. He was so soft spoken and I liked him and his music.Go Robbie.
