@k0namiman Hi i didnt read all of your comment because i found it ridiculous but I make glass pipes for a living and i know for a fact that glass doesnt melt till around 1000*F and alcohol and string doesnt burn that much. even if it is the fire and water philosophy it dont work. The water in the bottle, acting as a heat sink, keeps this expansion to a very local area. When the bottle is dunked in the water, the glass is rapidly cooled. Since glass is extremely hard and, so, brittle, the rapid expansion and contraction causes the glass in the local area to break. The result is a relatively smooth, if imperfect cleave.

i don't see why not. glass is just like a rock and u can sand a rock. just gotta be careful when working with it not to stress it too much or it'll crack just like if u hit a rock with a sledge hammer. the only thing about glass is that it'll crack way easier. if you're heating and cooling it then just make sure it all heats and cools at the same rate and as slowly as possible. slowly heating and cooling the entire piece in an oven helps strengthen the entire peice after working with it.
