Friends, actually READ St. Alphonsus. You'll then see just how far he is from today's wretched Novus Ordo pseudo-gospel of "social justice," ecumenism, "community," and all the rest of it.
@Jitpring For example, from his Victories of the Martyrs:
"It will be for us a subject of more profitable meditation to reflect upon another scene which the great day of general and irrevocable doom will present - the despair of so many Christians who, having died in mortal sin, will behold with unavailing anguish the triumph of so many martyrs, who, rather than lose God, suffered themselves to be despoiled of all things,
and underwent the most horrid torments that hell could suggest or tyrants inflict; while they, rather than yield a point of honor or forego a momentary gratification, despised the suggestions of divine grace, and lost their souls forever."
"But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
St. Alphonsus remains a central part of my prayer, and Fr. Brehl was even a pastor there (Holy Redeemer, Sudbury, ON, Canada). Thanks for posting this!
Didn't St. Alphonsus Liguori talk about scrupulosity in his writings? Someone told me about him in connection with that subject. If anyone can point me to a work of his that deals with this, please let me know. Scrupulosity is something I have been struggling with for a long time now.

@Jitpring This so-called saint is in torment now because he relied on Mary to save him instead of Christ...how about you?

@catholicexodus Greetings, please actually read St. Alphonsus before using such rash language. For example:
-The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ
-Uniformity with God's Will
-Attaining Salvation
and, of course, The Glories of Mary.
Please, try to understand.
I wish you peace. And google for my amazon list entitled:
Spiritual Masterpieces
Not the one by Gudjon but the one beginning "Some spiritual masterpieces for you. As Beethoven's nine symphonies contain"

@Jitpring And please remember:
"But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
-Mt. 12:36-37
