I heard Susan Nigro on Contra, saw this video, and decided I wanted to commission a piece for my old instrument, the viola, and the contra. I had no trouble lining up a violist (not me) and a Contra player, but the local symphony dragged its feet so I lost interest. In the commission, not in the contra... :)

This is a GREAT piece in general, and a GREAT advertisement for the bassoon and contra!

I have to agree with Orpehus458. I enjoy the super mario, but that is not exactly the most creative thing in the bassoon world-- it's been done by a lot of instruments and people. This video is pretty original, and very entertaining.  Thanks for posting!

That's not exactly it. The bassoonists I know each were funny in a weird sense or just funny, including me. I pointed out to one of my band directors that a bassoon has an a-hole (which it does) and made a mini toilet made out of yarn and another toilet made out of legos (in red, white, and blue for July 4). And when we played "Mulan", I thought "I'll make a man out of you" said "I'll make out with you". If you ask my friends, you can probably get a whole list.

well being a bassoonist, more likely you have to deal with being different. In alot of school bands, bassoons are not seen often, but when they are they get attention. And they stick out of the band, literally. and if you don't mind being different, your are probably a orginal person :) thats about all I can say. I am the bassoonist in my band, I am one of the more orginal, and creative people in my band.

awsome. Contrabassoon gave it an added boost. Contrabassoons are really expensive. I think there on average 20000-30000. My highschools lucky enough to have 3 bassoons as it is.
