Of course, had the Avs beaten the Stars in the 2000 WCF and gone on to beat the Devils in the '00 SCF, it is doubtful Ray Borque would have returned for a 22nd season.
Are you serious? Dallas had the better team both years. They won the President's Trophy in 98 and 99 and they won the Cup in 99. And in 2000 they had the better overall record and took the Finals to 2OT in Game 6.
It's a shame that Reunion's gonna be torn down this year without the city of Dallas giving the Stars and Mavs a chance to host one final game there--similar to what Philly did with the Spectrum.
The entire 1999-2000 season, the year after they won the Cup, the Stars leaned into that horn for a good 20-30 seconds after every goal. Just to annoy the other team a little bit more. Especially the Avalanche. And Reunion was a small building with a flat roof so it was extremely loud.
I may have hated the Stars, but that was one bad ass goal horn. And not to mention, it only sounded cooler when you had Gary Thorne and Bill Clement covering the game on ESPN. Ah yes, the good old days of hockey.
tell me about it...you can say the same for mavericks games. but thats whats happening across the country with all these new fancy stadiums that are being built. too much space, corporations buying up all the lower level seats. i miss reunion...
There is nothing more freakin cool than gary thorne calling a game in reunion arena. That goal horn with his thrones voice just gives you goosebumps all over. I guess calling a 30 game under .500 baseball team is better than this.....
Its all about money and ESPN wont throw in the money to do the games.....pre-lockout it was great but now versus took over all contracts and it stinks......i mean mike emrick is 2nd best to thorne but nothing like thorne calling these games......
Its not really bettman as much as it is the owners as well..Everyone had a hand in the disagreements.....(nhlpa, bettman, oweners)......my opinion the NHL is almost full revitalized but it needs less secondary market teams but its tough because they either win a stanley cup somehow (carolina, tampa bay, anaheim) or sign crazy ass players for millions of dollars (washington, columbus) its messed up lil bit but it will be ok.....GO FLYERS!!!!!!!!
your right theres alot of secondary new small makret cities, but the thing is half these cities that don't really need/deserve teams have brand new arenas that cant be abandond so they have to stay. This goes for all sports but to me no athlete is worth more then a million dollars a season c'mon who needs multi million and perhaps billion dollar contracts to have fun.
yea NHL on espn/abc was great Thorne dominated the mic, his voice was just so powerfull he could make any game sound exciting! too bad hes stuck broadcasting minor league baseball or I mean the Baltimore o's. he still does frozen 4 I think
nothing better than a 38 second goal horn to preceed the great Rock n Roll Pt. 2!

Textbook Brett Hull. How do you lose track of a guy who, at the time, scored over 600 goals? (Finished with 741)

I agree man. Throne was great. Him along with Clement. I'm hoping the NHL wises up and has ESPN do their games again.
