  • Efortlessly.

  • I just burned all my guitars.

  • My guitar instructor told me to study Frank's technique. Never heard of the guy until now. Just goes to show you just how little you know...

  • I appreciate his lessons. He must be a cool guy. Seems to be calm and his behavior is so kind - opposite with some other 'guitar heroes' - Tks, dear Frank - and Uploader :)

  • Thanks Frank. I got it.

  • @bcrich527 Correct. :-)

  • that's a bit of a mind fuck sweep

  • If he's really trying to teach us something, shouldn't he at least be in tune? I love Frank's playing but damn, tune your guitar once in awhile. And you gotta love Frank's clothing style....have you seen his Modes lesson? He's wearing black leather pants with a pink tweety bird shirt on....not to mention the cool 80's pink guitar.

  • Frank, . .you have taught me more than any other guitar player has. Herman Li cites you as well. For us other guys, I shall speak for all. Thanks.

  • i love the way hes not even looking at it ! its like his chopbuilder dvd. he barely looks at the guitar and melts the fretboard

  • most shredders wouldnt dare play it this clean ! cause they would be afraid !

  • @chuckrocks69 If you can't play it clean, it isn't real

  • ha ah ha ha ah...

    holy crap...

    i need a semi-acoustic and a shaved head...

  • his sweep arpeggios are so much more musical and melodic than all the shred/metal players. As a Shred player myself i must admit he is a genius.

  • Frank's sound ♥

  • HIS GUITAR IS OUT OF TUNE!!!!

    otherwise this is cool

  • @gallyeryofdoom Oh Really? Thanxs God that we got you here...

  • @gallyeryofdoom You must be a comedian....

  • this is frank gambale

  • that´s the shape i use the most on sweeping, easy and handfull of notes!

  • The reason these guitars sounds like crap is simple,

it's made out of plywood, Dah........

  • clean tone please frank!!!!

  • effortless

  • He is a fretboard ninja.

  • I play guitar, and strive to play like mister Frank Gambale, these vids are super!

  • @astralfarts FRANK GAMBALE IS SO AWESUM THAT EVEN IF HE HAD FULL BLOWN AIDS I WOULD STILL LET HIM BUM ME!

  • @astralfarts Lmao, funny shit dude, I'm dying!

  • 3 notes on the "G string"

  • MAESTRO GOD BLESS YOU!!!

  • Thats a tight tone he is getting, for real I wonder what kind of pick-ups + amp he uses

  • @0Thadius0

he used to get this with, ibanez, Dimarzio's, Marshalls?

  • The force is strong with this one. Has he crossed over to the dark side in order to play like this?

  • he just looks as bored as you can be playing that maj7 arpeggio!

  • um..on a rough morning I go barf in my boots, pick a fight with a homeless guy and miss my scrambled egg breakfast...and..no..can't play that like that....

  • He looks like darth vader without his mask

  • Sloth love Chunk

  • Jeff Loomis's dad ?

  • @TheCowsword lol exactly. Loomis is the student and Gamble is the master. Loomis is getting there though

  • @ 1:12

  • He looks bored at the end, "why do I have to teach this easy-as-hell-shit to people" :p

  • oh god....he have a good technics......

  • q enfermo

    hjaaja

    demasiado buenop

  • Frank we love you :)

  • usually i strongly favour string skipping over sweeping picking when playing arpeggios because sweep picking tends to be relatively inaccurate and sloppy...

watching this however has totally changed how i view sweeping.

what a master this man is, this is how sweeping should be done !

  • fester adams playing guitar XD

  • that sweep sounds like it should be 8-bit-ified and put in the next megaman for a space lvl or something xD

  • @dodo4hire lol yeah if there's one man who can play 8-bit arcade arpeggios on a guitar, it's gambale

  • What race is he?? Looks sorta indian to me.

  • Australian.

He is 2 minutes away from falling asleep.

  • @MrLittlesunflower Indian mixed with egg that is.

  • He's gonna fall a fucking sleep.

  • ...lmao he looks bored...

  • I started laughing so hard at 1:07 because he does the sweeps so effortlessly. What a great teacher.

  • Indeed. Lol

  • This guy and Allan Holdsworth make a lot of sense to me. I really jumped out of my seat when I heard Frank Gambale say(in another video) that not enough people pay enough attention to what their right hand doe. He couldn't be more correct!

  • Well sir james, it is likely that frank was playing it before bruce.

  • anyone know where i can get the tab for this?

  • Bruce Bouliet from Racer X played this arpeggio in the 80s

  • Colonel Kurtz!

  • Aww he's adorable :D

  • his tuning in this vid is a little sharp.

  • He's a jazz player. He does what he wants!

  • @jayjaygibbs Yes that's exactly what it is

  • Who the hell cares whether it's economy picking or sweep picking? Let it go! Just practice the technique. That's what it's about.

  • @Ambrizzle33 doesn't economy picking have sweep picking in it, as well as alternative?

  • sweep picking is economy picking.

  • one of the best

  • beautiful!!

  • hmm.. this is what i'm aiming for. you should always aim high

  • hahaha at 0.44 min say to turn it around and then he plays it "to turn it around" at 0.45-0.46 as if he sang it...lol awesome

  • bruce bouliet loves that first arpeggio shape

  • wow, at the end it looks like his hands are just floating across the strings, awesome

  • its sweep pickiing, with different arpegios

  • Loose economy picking. Not sweeping

  • It's sweep picking, he just incorporated two different arpeggio shapes and added a bit of his own style.

  • this is economy picking...not sweep

  • @cobracarg no this is sweeping

  • nope, because his picking hand isnt going in one sweep.... he goes up/down in one string (the D string I believe) thus making it economy picking and not sweep...

you can make it a sweep picking riff by hammering/pulling off on the D string set of notes because this would allow your picking hand to go in one constant motion....

  • no its just more advanced sweeping pretty sure he knows better than u bro

  • have you seen this vid in full? he states this is example of directional picking, also called economy picking, before the lesson... he mentions the term sweep in this vid because economy picking deals with a sweeping motion but alternates in direction...

  • we're splitting hairs. hes clearly sweeping his pick up and down, no?

  • lol... alright...im assuming you know what economy picking is....you have to have the sweep motion in order to economy pick....they are like mini sweep, i guess... but they change direction between sweeps... sweep picking in the other hand go in one motion and change direction at the end of a sweep... thats the main difference... i have a dvd of this program and he even states he is demonstrating economy picking... he uses the term sweep because thats the motion of his hand

  • @cobracarg It's Franks invention and he called it sweep picking first.

  • "and thats, thats on a rough morning, you can still do that"

    haha, gambale is the man

  • wow that is actually fun to play, its basically a major 7th arpeggio which sound cool over a minor 7th chord a minor 3rd from the root of the minor 7th chord

  • holly shit hes like bord wen he does tht

  • what!!!!????? oh hell.. amazing!

  • darth vader of guitar .. he is tha master of sweep. period.

  • @hamdihasan

Check out Jason becker's song "Serrana". You will then think otherwise :)

  • that's only one song though. even though jason becker is undoubtedly amazing, Frank Gambale graduated valedictorian from the GIT and has been sweeping for decades longer than Jason Becker has (I know he's disabled). frank gambale is the cleanest sweeper I've also ever heard. Serrana is riddled with tiny rhythm errors, much like Yngwie's work.

  • Check out more of his songs, that demonstration of Serrana is more or less just freely done. Also, just because he's from the GIT doesn't mean he is better at sweeping. You should see some of Jason's work with Cacpohony, some of the sweeping in there is mindblowing and clean as hell.. not to mention, without rythmic errors :)

  • it wasn't the fact that he graduated from GIT. it's hte fact that he graduated a valedictorian out of the entire school in his year. also, it's so widely accepted by the guitar world that he's been called the biggest influence in the world of both sweep and economy picking, due to his near flawless technique. true, jason is incredible (i already said) but not up to par with Pappy Gambale

  • not to mention frank uses tasteful arpeggios. the basis of neo classical metal is using all Root position arpeggios, normally with the root on teh 5th string.

  • @hamdihasan bahahaha darth vader +500 points

  • The ADHD will not let me do this..... just no patience. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it !

  • I wish he was in tune. It would make this a lot easier to learn.

I mean he's in tune with himself, but not to anyone else!

  • Sure man, Gambale is waiting for you to teach him to tune the guitar. xD Oh my God....

  • you missed the point of his comment

  • Oh yes I've rereaded it, sorry :-)

  • I can't do this...!!!!!!!!....lol

  • KALMAH RULE'Z

  • poor

  • Frank is an amazing guitar player and a respetable musician but he looks like uncle Lucas from monster family

  • Uh...What? Do you mean Uncle Fester from the Adam's Family? Never heard of the monster family. Heard of the Munsters....

  • MY GOD he make that look ridiculously easy!!

  • i love how when hes sweeping the thing at like light speed he looks totally bored, like "and you find this impressive??? come on i shit music better than this every morning"... what an animal

  • what a beast.

  • any recommandations for frank?

  • Uncle Fester is pretty good at guitar.

  • hahahaha

  • hahahahahaha thats funny as shit! i wonder if you put a light bulb in his mouth it will light up!

  • @zackvanhalen LMAO! I was going to type that

  • I thought he said "That's the textbook shit' the first time I watched this..I wonder how he can be so calm doing all this..

  • Hannibal Lecter Plays the guitar?

  • "that's on a rough morning, you can still do that" No one sweeps like FG...his technique is flawless

  • I want a scale lesson! lol

  • Franks sweeping is amazing...so effortless. He inspires me to play more gracefully.

  • ahahaha i love his facial expression

    he's like "yep"

  • the genius.

did he lost his hair naturally or by the cure for some illness?

  • hahaha he looks calm.. damn.. so good..

  • i miss his hair

  • Hair?

  • mr potato head can jam man

  • And that's 'on a rough morning', he can still do that...

  • that look he throws us is like "u'll never be able to do this as good as i" ya know right there at the end haha

  • LOL! 1:08-1:21 !! The look on his face. He's wondering what's for lunch.

  • I'm learning some of his licks, like sweeping the pentatonics and stuff like he does on this vid. this is HORRIBLE to play.

It's much more difficult than standard sweeps. It took him 7 years to perfect his sweep technique, so I guess I have a lot of work on my way! lol

  • It's FUN to play dood! It is a difficult start but it can be mastered in a year or so if you're not really employed with just time on your hands -literally. Just keep at it you'll be just as polished FG! It'll change your life.

  • I hope I won't loose all my hair when this happens lol!

  • i think eugene's ball trick uses pentatonic sweep patterns and that is extremely hard to play

  • No sweeping..alternate picking..
