  • "Under the promise of the statue, less than 20 miles from Miss Liberty, the Old World pride and passion will be unleashed today. At the centre of the centre of the emotional cauldron Roberto Baggio. His challenge is simple; lead Italy to an unprecedented World Cup championship."

    *Cue ridiculously out-of-place Rocky-style music*

What a load of absolute shi...

  • Baggio deserved to win this World Cup.

  • What a pitty that th US lost the world cup bids.

  • @guiqui5 Don't give up hope, I got a feeling that all those big promises that Qatar made will backfire and they'll have to give it up. If that happens the US can place another bid.

  • A masterclass from big Paul

  • You have to remember that ESPN wasn't used to calling football games at that time, this World Cup was the first step in changing that.

  • I was at this match. It was an amazing day. Every neighbourhood we drove through in New Jersey was either draped in Irish or Italian flags. Like blanketsandpillows said, the Irish were the vast majority at the match. Every time the Italians would start shouting "Italia, Italia!" they Irish fans would drown them out with chants of "Ireland, Ireland!" I still remind my Italian in-laws about this day from time to time. Haha!

  • Is this the same commenator who says something along the lines of "its England on the attack" about half way through the game! Also I seem to remember the saying every 15 minutes "this game is brought to you commercial free by Gillette...the best a man can get!" Ridiculous.

  • an even house? its 80% irish! and unlucky for poor reberto baggio, he did leave his mark on this world cup, but it was for the wrong reason

  • fuck, what a shame. i can't stand this yanky shite.

  • football is wierd with american commentry. is that verfremdungs effekt? no.

  • Did anyone else hear the commentator calling himself ''Blobby''?

  • Commentary lame? Perhaps to people who know the game as well as the rest of the planet does. We in the US have a lot to learn, me included. I'd love to understand the subtleties of the sport that make a 1-0 match beautiful to watch, something that most Americans might find boring. If US networks would pair up w/BBC, ITV, you guys in Ireland or other networks, it would help.

  • At 0:40 in the Yanks don't seem to know the difference between the Italian and Irish flags.

  • @Primordialfan1 '

LMFAO You dumb fucking leprechaun. Go fuck yourself bitch

  • @SecularTechnology

    LOL @ continued American Ignorance.

  • @Primordialfan1

Shut up dude. I don't hate Ireland. But I will get defensive if you insult The U.S.

Ignorance? Who are the people who keep calling us "yanks" when a Yankee is actually the least patriotic of all Americans AKA Northern United States.

  • @SecularTechnology

Well then you shouldn't've been insulted if I called the least patriotic people ignorant.

You love the United States as much as I love Ireland :)

Come on. America does alot of things right. :)

I'm not up for fighting with you man. You seem like a nice dude :)

  • they play baggio up so much at the start and he didnt get a touch the big man had him in his pocket all day!!!

  • A midget scored in The GIANTS stadium it doesn't get better than that

  • half the irish fans where probably illegal irish imigrants living in usa since the 80's it wuda been a great day for them

  • sorry but there is no sound :(

  • home field .. advantage.. its the world cup.. its all neautral unless u are USA

  • "Thanks to Uncle Bens, Tampax, Matsui and Durex for allowing me to post this comment....'

  • "This event only happens once every four years", really?!

  • hahaha! its a fuckin soap opera!

  • Ty mentioned the "seed" both teams played for and "home field advantage." Obviously, he was joking.

  • How the fuck did the US get to host a world cup? Its like the 10th most popular sport.

  • Yet all the games were played in huge arenas and there weren't many unsold seats, were there?

  • anyone have the full mexico italy match?

  • divine paul

  • haha, the entire world ?

  • The entire world was waiting for Italy v Ireland?

  • hahahaa yeah, how about against the run of play goal 10 mins into the game? I was unaware that either team had that much possession.

  • God how much will they suck the d of baggio? Doesn't matter Paul McGrath was the true hero of this game

  • which one of he commentators was fired after this match?

  • Its very tough being a fan in the US. No passion and no respect for the game

  • I know Ley is still an ESPN analyst, which is horrible. Anyone who can sit by and let another "footballer" call Ireland- England, doesn't deserve his own bullet.

  • haguhmeister we might be a small island but we love football its the most played sport in ireland as rafa would say FACT!!!!

  • was baggio the only one playing

  • the americans over do everything come on ireland houghton 1-0 bring me back jack and ill do the job for you!! George"Danger Here"Hamilton classic

  • italy + ireland = brothers

  • Shut up. Jeez we get it. You think Baggio is good.

  • one of the great italian teams...taken apart by a bunchof men from a small island where soccer is a the 3rd sport...epic

  • England somehow didn't make it to these world cup finals, so naturally I supported Ireland. I remember being 10 years old, rolling around on the floor in frenzy when Houghton scored the winner. This was a major upset at the time because Ireland were still new to the world cup and still had someting to prove. Of course now everyone respects them because they never give in and will almost always push the other team right until the end. They are also more skillful than people give them credit for

  • haha ''rollin around d floor''':) did d same myself;)

  • Somehow? If they haven't lost to Holland at Rotterdam, they would celebrate another WC qualification. Still, the Irish played outstanding football at Italia '90 & US '94. Shame, that i hardly remember watching any of US '94 matches live. ;/

  • I really have an urge to punch those commentators! To avoid this urge skip the first 3 min at least of this video. LOL! What a day for Ireland!!

  • I was there! Followed the italians all the way to Pasadena. Thank you Roberto Baggio, for making me love the beautiful game!

  • are the blokes at the start what americans call duche bags??????

  • sad that Ireland don't have a generation of players half as good as this now and never qualify for anything.

  • not for long mate, we're going to south africa

  • this guy can pronounce ireland. He keeps saying eereland excuse me ireland.

  • Fucking American commentary!

  • Bobley?!?! Tykeough?!?! WTF is that?

Very poor, lots of mistakes & that stupid ameri-fake commentary..

  • go the irish mafia taking over the giants stadium legendary stuff

  • 10 years old. This game changed my life was when football came massively into my life :) LOVE IT!!!

  • the irish had no possession and played lob ball football...shitty when the better team loses

  • Ireland had most of the possession in this match, you should know what you're talking about before you leave a comment

  • are you stupid? watch the match Italy clearly has more possession....ireland got lucky very lucky

  • After ireland took the lead the italian's didn't dominate anymore, you are going by the first 10 minutes of play, do yourself a favour and watch the whole of the match then come a practical conclusion my dear fellow

  • your right

  • paul mcgrath what a fuckin legend

  • I wouldn't worry too much about the commentary. I saw Argentina v Brazil '90 with American commentary, and they thought that Brazil were good!

  • Fuck italy. FIghten irish!

  • come on buddy show some maturity your 29, you don't need to talk nonsense.

  • Ah sure it's just a wee bit of patriotic banter.

  • cummbayyaa myyy lorrd oh cummbaayyaa cummbayya myyy lorrrd ohh myy lorrd ohh paul mcgraaaaath

  • i was at this game as a 16 year old for years i've wanted a copy of the match!!! this will do...fuckin love youtube...was in sec 335. to watch ireland with my immigrant father win what a game...what a week considering ny rangers had won the stanley cup that week

  • man you're lucky, would have given anything to b there!!!

  • roby baggio immortale!!!!come lui non c'è mai stato nessuno!!!!!!!

  • E' vero, sono d'accordo! pero non ha potuto fare un cazzo contro Paul McGrath!

  • Ooh Ah!!

When will we get another great centre half?
