I was reading the Saville Report since it was published earlier this week. You can google it and it is heavy going but I think it is very fair and balances the evidence well. The findings show that most of the soldiers reacted out of fear and panic when they opened fire after Lieutenant N fired in the air. However Lance Corporal F and his men - Corporal E and Privates G and H - definitely commited murder. Those four guys in particular need to be charged with murder.

I have no connection with Ireland and I was not born then but I have been reading about this and researching it. I am so pleased that the report showed that this was unjustifiable act. It's not as simple as that. Soldiers had already been killed in battles with the IRA in Derry before Bloody Sunday. 2 RUC officers had been shot in Creggan. A few minutes before the shootings on Rossville Street, two soldiers under attack from stone throwers over reacted and their panicked shots hit a teenage boy in the leg and a middle aged man with bullet fragments. An IRA sniper retaliated and fired a shot at some paras cutting wire on the top of a wall.
Rossville Flats overlooking the entire area was often used as a sniper position by the IRA against the British Army. That's why the soldiers scooping up rioters were issued with live ammo. They were expecting that the IRA would open fire form inside the crowd. A soldier who is told by his officers that he could come under fire is going to have his finger on the trigger of his gun and if he thinks rightly or wrongly he is under fire he is going to shoot and ask questions later.
It doesn't excuse the cover up and the lies about gunmen and bombers but some of the men definitely over reacted and reacted out of fear and panic. The Saville Report says so. HOWEVER that said Lance Corporal F who killed at least 4 men and wounded several more seems to have used the opportunity to get personal retribution on people he seems to have thought deserved to be shot because he saw them as IRA supporters. That fucker need to tried for murder. Full stop. End of story.

The Saville Report found that a 15-year old kid was picking up a baton round on waste ground near the derelict Taxi building on William Street. There were a group of Paras in an observation post there which was under attack from stone throwers. The soldiers panicked opened fire thinking it was a nail bomb. The boy was hit in the leg and fragments of a bullet struck Johnston the fella you are talking about by mistake.

I was reading the Saville Report since it was published earlier this week. You can google it and it is heavy going but I think it is very fair and balances the evidence well. The findings show that most of the soldiers reacted out of fear and panic when they opened fire after Lieutenant N fired in the air. However Lance Corporal F and his men - Corporal E and Privates G and H - definitely commited murder. Those four guys in particular need to be charged with murder.

I have no connection with Ireland and I was not born then but I have been reading about this and researching it. I am so pleased that the report showed that this was unjustifiable act. The armed forces are meant to protect and serve they are not there to shoot innocent civilians. I am sorry that Bloody Sunday exists because it should never have happened.

My dad was a reliable witness saw 2 inocent people being shot so he was a reliable witness he had 6 children and was marching for better civil rights he could easily be one of the 14 dead I weep tonight for them all and for him who had to witness this ! My they now rest in peace

It's not as simple as that. Soldiers had already been killed in battles with the IRA in Derry before Bloody Sunday. 2 RUC officers had been shot in Creggan. A few minutes before the shootings on Rossville Street, two soldiers under attack from stone throwers over reacted and their panicked shots hit a teenage boy in the leg and a middle aged man with bullet fragments. An IRA sniper retaliated and fired a shot at some paras cutting wire on the top of a wall.
That set things off.

Rossville Flats overlooking the entire area was often used as a sniper position by the IRA against the British Army. That's why the soldiers scooping up rioters were issued with live ammo. They were expecting that the IRA would open fire form inside the crowd. A soldier who is told by his officers that he could come under fire is going to have his finger on the trigger of his gun and if he thinks rightly or wrongly he is under fire he is going to shoot and ask questions later.

It doesn't excuse the cover up and the lies about gunmen and bombers but some of the men definitely over reacted and reacted out of fear and panic. The Saville Report says so. HOWEVER that said Lance Corporal F who killed at least 4 men and wounded several more seems to have used the opportunity to get personal retribution on people he seems to have thought deserved to be shot because he saw them as IRA supporters. That fucker need to tried for murder. Full stop. End of story.

The Saville Report found that a 15-year old kid was picking up a baton round on waste ground near the derelict Taxi building on William Street. There were a group of Paras in an observation post there which was under attack from stone throwers. The soldiers panicked opened fire thinking it was a nail bomb. The boy was hit in the leg and fragments of a bullet struck Johnston the fella you are talking about by mistake.
The shootings by Lance Corporal F were not a mistake.

The only soldier who was wounded at that day in Derry was a young private on duty in another part of the city completely unrelated to the Paras on Rossville St who shot himself in the foot with his own rifle when he was messing with the trigger.
Soldiers aren't robots.
Give the average 18-25 year old male a bottle of booze you are asking for trouble.
Show them how to use a 7.62mm rifle with a muzzle velocity of 2,750 feet per second and your asking for worse.

The Saville Report says that most of the killings were the result of soldiers acting out of fear and panic.
Some of the deaths were clear acts of murder.
Others were clearly not.
I suggest you actually go and read the report before you make up your mind.

think about it the in the 70's and 80s the IRA could of easily of sat there and shot a British solider in Ireland everyday..but what effect would this have to the British Goverment..NONE AT ALL we just have to look at the news daily and see a soldiers body being brought back to England from Afghan and Iraq..Hitting the Economy hurts the goverment alot more., bloody sunday was unarmed civilians being shot at.

The march on Bloody Sunday was nothing to do with religion. It was a march against internment...a disastrous policy implemented by your government which only served to boost IRA recruitment and thus condemn more young British lads to their deaths.
