You wouldn't happen to know of a website that deals primarily with Isuzu diesels, would you? I have an '81 Isuzu I-Mark with a 2.4 Isuzu diesel, that my dad swapped in it a few years back. Its naturally aspirated, and still makes a ton of low speed torque. I recently got 55.8 mpg average, over about 330 miles. And this was a combination of city and highway mileage. I want to get to know these Isuzu engines better.
@madtownmadman Hi mate, afraid I don't know of any specific website. Only what google brings up. There's not to much to know apart from the early ones are pretty bullet proof and as you have found amazingly efficient and powerful.
Just make sure you do your oil changes and cam belt and there well know for going 300-400k with no issues. Only other thing I know of on the 2.8L at least is the alternators can be quite expensive to replace.
@MechanicallyDriven I know what you mean, I've just fitted a new 200tdi in my defender. it sounds the same and you only have to breath on the key and it starts.
fraid so harry, it's all gone now, but the chap who bought the engine is sticking it in a rangie ambulance to go overlanding, so thats pretty cool, I'm now down to a motorbike and 200tdi 90. But you can only have so many toys :)
I have the same in my 1980 land rover but now it will not rev after we start her it was good before the conversion, new injectors

@ThePatchjack take it you checked the lift pump? also, some versions have a butterfly valve in the inlet manifold.
When I did this conversion first time I started it, couldn't rev either. Turned out the valve was closed.
